the only one in town with blue busses he was quickly sent on his way in the right direction. AT LEAST one Milford mother has her youngsters on the right track Each afternoon they spend one hour alone, reading, painting or doing what they like in a quiet, relaxed atmosphere. One thing that delights the youngest daughter is making trips to the library then spending her quiet time reading the books she has selected. A good idea and one that should be put into practice by more moms. Many youngsters are on the go from sun-up until sundown. stopping only long enough for lunch and dinner breaks The quiet time each afternoon teaches there is good and much to be learned when you are alone and when you have slowed down enough to relax. There may be a lesson in this for adults 100. When was the last time you read a book? Painted a picture? Or. just sat quietly with your own thoughts for a short time? More state police in air and ground Governor Otis R. Bowen and state police superintendent Robert L. Deßard offered the motoring public some “plain" talk this week, more plain cars on patrol and state police planes in the air. Target of this air-ground task force, Govenor Bowen warned, is the growing number of drivers who continue to violate the state’s 55 mile per hour speed limit. “We perform a disservice to every lawabiding motorist when we fail to apprehend those who willfully disregard speed limits,” he said Permission has been granted, the governor announced, for state police to use more unmarked cars, and airplane patrols, to nab speeders and other traffic violators In response to the suggestion that a diminished energy crisis mandates repeal of present speed limit restrictions. Governor Bowen cited the following May traffic safety figures from state police: May 1973 1974 Total traffic arrests 11.981 17.270 Moving arrests 7,341 12.646 Accidents investigated 2,297 1,626 Truck arrests 2,794 4.911 “Because we have slowed down on our streets and highways.” Governor Bowen exclairried. “more than 230 lives have already been saved this year. Superintendent Deßard assured the governor that more plain cars would be pressed into senice and concentrated patrol efforts stepped-up In a recent concentrated patrol action on Interstate 70, from Indianapolis to thfc Illinois state line. Deßard reported that an air-ground sun-eillance of traffic netted 89 speeders in a five-hour period. Twenty-one of those arrested were speeding trucks, he added Superintendent Deßard also pointed out that truckers who use citizens’ band radios to escape detection for deliberate speeding violations, jeopardize the longstanding and mutual respect that has existed between truckers and troopers Mrs. Neterer visits relatives in area Mrs. Jay Neterer of Fort Myers, Fla., sister of Mrs. Delbert Dippon of r 1 Milford and Mrs Wayne Bucher of Syracuse, spent the past week in their homes visiting relatives and friends in the area.
