Miss Eileen Vandermark to present organ recital

Miss Eileen Kay Vandermark. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Condict E. Vandermark. r 2 Leesburg, invites the public to an organ recital on Wednesday. June 19, at 8 p.m. at the First United Methodist church in Warsaw. Miss Vandermark. who is vacationing at the home of her parents, has been a resident of Copenhagen. Denmark, for the past four years. After receiving the bachelor of music degree in organ from Indiana university and the master of sacred music degree from Union Theological seminary in New York city. Miss Vandermark left the States for a 10-month study tour in Denmark. Having discovered that 10 months was not long enough to cover all the material she had planned, she applied for and received a scholarship to extend her stay. During the second year, she was substitute organist at Taksigelseskirken (Thanksgiving church) in Copenhagen, and was later appointed to the post of organist-choir master there, becoming the first American state-appointed church organist in Denmark. In addition to directing the adult choir and playing for church service at Taksigelseskirken. Miss Vandermark also arranges monthly concerts of various types. Miss Vandermark has been studying in the soloist class —a special program designed first and foremost for the training of concert organists — at the Royal Danish conservatory of music for the past three years. The program culminates with a conservatory-sponsored debut concert which is reviewed by all the major Copenhagen newspapers. Miss Vandermark expects to play her debut concert in November of this year at the Radio House in Copenhagen.

Her organ studies in Denmark have been with Professor Grethe Krogh, head of the organ department at the conservatory. Miss Vandermark’s debut concert will not exactly be on foreign ground, as she already has been concertizing for the past nine years. While in the United States, she gave 11 recitals in Indiana. Illinois and New York city. Since her arrival in Denmark, she has given 12 concerts herself and participated in 25 others both in Denmark and Sweden. Last year she was invited to record for the Norwegian radio and to hold a lecture for the organ students from Oslo’s music school. The past year. Miss Vandermark has been teaching organ students at Skt. Annao Gymnasium (Copenhagen’s boy choir school). At the end of her vacation in the States. Miss Vandermark will be flying to Holland to attend the three-week International Organ academy in Haarlem. Her studies there will be with Madame Marie-Claire Alain from France and Luigi F. Tagliavini from Italy. Immediately afterwards, she will be making a 14-day tour of Norway giving concerts. One of the concerts, in Trondheim, will be broadcast by the Norwegian radio.
