Barbee conservation club hopors 'Wild Life' winners
Essay winners on “Wild Life” were honored during the May 21 meeting of Barbee Conservation club. Tables were decorated with spring flowers for the carry-in supper <_ Stacy E. Davis, Jr., presided over the meeting Trophies for the winning essays were presented to Mary Baumle, Lisa Neibert, Lori Smith Larry Stauffer, Jerry Mart and Jim Bartkowiak. Confirmed streakers in Webster It has been confirmed that one or more streakers were dashing around North Webster on May 18 and May 19. Phillip Kern, owner of North Webster Dairy Queen, witnessed a male teenage youth enter the eating area of the restaurant about 9 p m May 19. The establishment was crowded with customers when the streaker, wearing only a motorcyle helmet, entered the south door of the premises, raced through the crowd of startled customers and left by the north entrance Mr Kern stated that “Nobody said much but a few people chuckled.” Someone in the crowd suggested he rename his business the "Streaker Queen.” Mr Kern’s comment: “I hope we don’t have any more ” On Saturday. May 18. about 11 pm three young ladies, who prefer to remain anonymous, were in the vicinity of the pizza restaurant m North Webster when they saw the streaker. According to one young lady. "I heard someone yell “streaker” I looked to see if it was true. He was wearing a black helmet Peoplestartedcoming out of the restaurant ” Another witness said: “Everyone was screaming "streaker” we all jumped out to look.” According to the third observer: “I saw him after he had passed. He was wearing some kind of helmet and was carry ing something that looked like his clothes I thought it was funny. I would guess he was about high school age People were running out of the restaurant and there was a lot of excitement " The owner of the pizza restaurant could not be reached for comment MRS. RICHARDS HAS SURGERY Mrs. David Richards entered Whitley County hospital on May 30 and underwent surgery on May 21 She is reported to be doing well and hopes to be home within a week.

Legion Auxiliary mother-daughter held on May 21 A mother-daughter banquet was held May 21 by North Webster American Legion Auxiliary A carry-in chicken dinner was served Gold star mothers were honored The oldest grandmother and the youngest mother present were recognized Mrs. Ermal Vanator was in charge of the program. Harry Heches in Michigan Mr. and Mrs. Harry E. Heche and family. North Webster, spent the week end visiting at the home of Mr and Mrs Harrold Calkins. Wayland. Mich. On Saturday evening Mrs. Heche, Kim Heche and Mrs Calkins, attended a motherdaughter banquet at the Wayland Methodist church A family dinner was held at the Calkin's home on Sunday with 18 in attendance. Memorial Day ceremonies at North Webster Memorial day ceremonies, sponsored by the" North Webster American Legion, were held May 27 Parade units assembled at 10:30 a m at the Legion hall and marched to Lake Webster where a wreath was placed on the water in memory of all unknown soldiers The parade then regrouped at the Legion hall and marched through the business section of town and out to the cemetery’ Rev. John Weeks was guest speaker for memorial services at the cemetery. North Webster junior high school marching band, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and American Legion color guard units participated in the parade.
Mother-daughter carry-in enjoyed at Methodist church
The combined circles of North Webster United Methodist church held a mother-daughter carry-in salad buffet on May 21. at Camelot hall decorations for the event portrayed bygone days. The hall was adorned with a variety of Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy PEGGY WILLMAN IS HONORED Miss Peggy Willman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs T. A. dolls. Mrs. Nelson Hunt gave the benediction and Mrs. Russell Churchill presented the welcome. The entertainment was planned by Mary Circle with Mrs. Jon Dippert as chairman. James Snapp. Wabash, presented a program of magic. Mrs. Stu Walker, assisted by friends and family, gave a short skit. Mrs Ron Owens sang a solo and Mrs Greg Smith read a “Message to mothers.” Mrs Walker gave the closing prayer. Egypt and Greece theme of pictures shown Kiwanis Rev. A. C. Underwood was guest speaker for the May 20
meeting of Lakeland Kiwanis club. He showed pictures of his trip through Egypt and Greece including the Pyramids, sphinx. Parthenon, ancient tombs and the Nile river. Gifford Terry was presented with an International certificate for his good will travels among other nations and Kiwanis clubs. Guests present were: Glenn Riepel, Garrett Epply, Warren Garrison and E. J. Kessler, North Manchester; D. W. Grossman. Knightstown; James Bell, Ed Whitty, G. F. Phillip and Lewis Luckinbill, Warsaw. Efficient Homemakers install officers Officers for the coming year were installed during the May 15 meeting of Efficient Homemakers home extension club. The meeting was held at the
home of Mrs. Marion Lantz. Mrs. George Sliger assisted the hostess. The new officers are: Mrs. Paul Baugher — president Mrs. James Kline — vice president Mrs. George Sliger — secretary Hannah Payne — treasurer. Mrs. Baugher was presented with a president's pin and a gavel. Mrs. Kline read the meditation. The health and safety report was presented by Mrs. Jerry Minton. “Overcrowding the garden” was discussed by Mrs. Joe Shock. The lesson “Sewing with knits” was given by Mrs. Sliger. Roll call response was “A kind Mother's day act.” Mrs. Vernon Zurcher was accepted as a new member. Mrs. Leonard Mauzy, who is moving away, was bid “goodby” by club members. The June 20 meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Dervel Bowser
Tippy Twp club meets in Golden home Mrs. Frank Golden was hostess for the May 22 meeting of Tippecanoe Township home extension club. Mrs. Tom Reynolds assisted the hostess. Mrs. Lewis Gee read the minutes of the April meeting. Mrs. Hayes Hidy gave the health and safety lesson. Mrs. Goldie Hunnicut discussed the planting and care of Iris plants. A report was given by club members who attended the recent tulip festival at Holland. Mich. Mrs. Dorthea Kurth was appointed as chairman for a club theater party to be held this summer. Kathleen Weghorst was welcomed home from Florida. Mrs. Russell Mickley gave a brief history concerning the
origin of home extension clubs in Indiana. It was noted that the Tippecanoe Township club is the oldest chartered home extension club in Kosciusko county. Members were reminded that secret pals will be revealed at the June meeting. Each member is to bring a card for her secret pal. The June meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Hattie Fiddler. -NW— Entertains Thursday at farewell dinner Mrs. Karl Weingart was hostess Thursday noon for a farewell dinner for Mrs. Melburn Rapp of Syracuse who will be leaving later this summer to make her home at Keystone Heights.
