Korenstra is a senior majoring in business administration. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Korenstra. of Syracuse and a graduate of Wawasee high school. Syracuse Anderson s coach Dave Edwards was chosen by HBCC colleagues as top mentor of the year. Three Ravens at the Church of God liberal arts school qualified for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics National Tournament this spring.

Golfers fall in triangular meet
By SANDY GERENCSER Rudy Cesco's varsity golf team came in third last Thursday in an 18 hole match at Goshen. Goshen won with 316. South Bend Saint Joe had 329 and Wawasee 333. The Warriors finished their regular season with a record of 12-7. Sam Ludwig led the tribe with an 80. Ron Zurcher had an 83. Scoring 85’s were Steve Coverstone and Jon Owens. Athletes honored in recognition program
By SANDY GERENCSER Girls participating in Wawasee's sports program — volleyball, basketball, swimming. tennis, gymnastics and track — were recognized in an awards program last night (Tuesday). Also acknowledged was the boys' track team. During the awards program two trophies were presented to Wawasee The boy’s track team presented the Rochester relays championship trophy to Wawasee’s principal, Henry L. Smith. Mr. Smith also accepted the sectional championship trophy from the girls' track team on behalf of the school. Basketball Team Acknowledge The girls’ basketball team was coached this year by Mrs. Cynthia Peterson. There were three awards given in basketball Colleen Beer received the free throw percentage award and the field goal percentage award. Tammy Schumm was named most valuable player. Other members of the team recognized were: Sue Connolly, Peg Willman. Vicki Wilson, Beth Beer. Barb Brouwer, Toni Gronendyke, Cathy Nyikos, Meg Schopf, Kellie White, Betsy Williams, Benji Hall, Phyllis Horvathm, Mary Kitson. Marie Kitson. The junior varsity kept its winning streak alive as it notched 172 points to defeat Goshen’s 184 and South Bend’s 197 in a nine hole match. The young Warriors completed their season with a 150 record. They have a total of 27 straight wins. Paul Miller headed the team as he carded a 40. Three golfers scored 44, they were Ron Bauman. Bill Jones and Bob Johnson. Larry Allen tallied a 48. The golfers will compete in the Northern Lakes Conference match tomorrow (Thursday).

They visited Wall Disney World the first two days, then flew to Fort Myers where they spent the rest of the week with Mr. and Mrs. Tony Corwin.
Warriors nip North Wood in sectional By SANDY GERENCSER Wawasee topped the North Wood Panthers in the first game of the state baseball sectional Monday. 3-2, in an extra inning. The Warriors will advance to semi-final action on Thursday. They will clash with the Mentone Bulldogs at 1. Victory over the Bulldogs would match the tribe up with the Goshen-Jim town winner. Greg Fidler had two crucial bunts in the game to give the Warriors the victory after eight innings. Greg brought in Gary Dean in the third for the first score and Doug Brown in the eighth for the winning run. Wawasee combated NorthWood’s 2-0 lead in the first inning with hits by Gary Dean, Brian McKay. Greg Fidler and a hit batter in the third. Mark Smith was the winning pitcher and Ron Hall took the loss. Mark gave up six hits, struck out six and walked one. Ron Hall allowed nine walks and struck out four. Two walks went to Mark, probably because he had four home runs in Saturday's doubleheader against Triton. Slugging two hits * each for Wawasee were Brian McKay, Tad Chamberlin, Dave Hamilton and Gary Dean. Defeat Triton The Warriors defeated Triton last Saturday. 12-2 and 12-9. Doug Brown went three for three in the first game, one of his hits was a home run. In the second game Al Kitson went three for four. Mark Reiff advances to state in discuss

He Wawasee Ski club elects officers The Wawasee Ski club held its first meeting of the summer on May 26 at 7:30 p.m. with the following officers elected: President — Richard Swihart Vice president — Janice Goebel Secretary — Angela Long Treasurer — Debbie Giles Show director — Mike Davis The board of directors will remain the same. They are: Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Ensinger. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Giles and Dr. and Mrs. Harold Goebel. New members are being accepted and interested persons are urged to obtain blanks from any club member or pick up blanks at Wawasee Plaza Marine, Griffith Wawasee Marine or Merrill’s Marine. Plans are being made to participate on July 5 in connection with the Fourth of July Flotilla, and will be at the Wawasee Plaza Marine location. Bruce Cooper was the winning pitcher, and Jeff Harmel was the loser. John Minear belted a triple in the third inning with the bases loaded to put Wawasee in the lead for the rest of the game.
