Sellers, Slabach vows said in Saint Mark's church
Miss Debra Sellers of 1327 Goldstein, Goshen, and David Slabach. 1404 South Main street. Goshen, were united in marriage in a double ring ceremony at 3:30 o’clock in the afternoon Saturday, May 18, at Saint Mark's United Methodist church, Goshen Rev. Jay A. Morris, pastor of the church, officiated for the ceremony in the presence of 150 guests The bridegroom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs Fred Slabach of r 2 Middlebury Mr and Mrs H E Sellers of r 4 Syracuse are parents of the bride Fireside baskets of painted daisys and a lited unity candle graced the wedding setting. Fla . served as organist Given In Marriage The bride, given in marriage by her parents, appeared in a gown of sheerganza and Chantilly type lace The Victorian neckline and pinafore bodice were edged with lace ruffling, as were the full bishop sleeves Scalloped lace bands edged with ruffling enhanced a deep garland on the skirt front and bordered the chapel length train A godet effect at the skirt sides was of lace overlays. Her mantilla laced edged veiling was attached to a camelot headpiece. Each wore a picture hat with coordinating band the color of the gown, and carried white lace umbrellas with painted daisies, straw flowers and baby's breath. Annual Mothers clubs spring party held May 13
The Junior Mothers club of Syracuse was hostess for the annual spring party May 13. at the Wawasee high school annex. As guests arrived, they w-ere given name tags in the shape of a rolling pin, then enjoyed punch and nuts during a social hour before dinner. Eighty-nine members and guests from the four clubs were served a dinner by the school cafeteria staff. Tables were decorated with pastel colored candles, centered with hand decorated ceramic pitchers filled with spring flowers. Each place had favors of a hand-painted mug featuring mushrooms. The head table had mushroom centerpieces. Winning the door prizes were Mrs. Terry McLeod, Mrs. Frank Stefanski, Mrs. Harold Kline. Mrs. Lowell Hill. Mrs. Gilbert George and Mrs. Jack Stoelting. Mrs Ronald Silveus and Mrs William Cutter served as cochairmen for the planning of the evening. Mrs. Silveus. mistress of ceremonies, welcomed the group and recognized Mrs. Noble Blocker, the original founder of the first Mothers club here. Club
Debra Bemish, Kevin Sweeney married in Lafayette May 11
Debra Lynne Bemish, North Webster, and Kevin Sweeney, Indianapolis, were married May 11 at Saint Thomas Acquinas church. West Lafayette. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard S. Bemish, r 1 North Webster. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Sweeney. Indianapolis. Rev. Leo Haigerty performed the double ring ceremony before an altar flanked with candelabra and baskets of yellow mums. Organ music was provided by Becky Menzie, Pierceton. Roseann Baker, Pierceton and Clint Olson. North Webster, sang solos The bride, given in marriage by her father, was attired in a gown of chiffon over bridal satin. It was styled with long sleeves, high neckline and sweeping cathedral train. It featured lace trim and seed pearls. Her cathedral length veil was attached to a circle style cap of lace and ruffles. presidents of all four clubs were introduced and each told of the activities of the club year, then in turn presented the gavel to the incoming presidents, who introduced their officers for the coming year. Each retiring president was presented a gift in token of appreciation. Mrs. Silveus introduced the hilight for the evening who was chief James E. Gregory of Columbus. Executive chief for the J. Irwin Miller, chairman of the board of Cummins Diesel, executives and their guests. He has studied at Cornell university. Cordon Bleu in Paris, National Swiss Hotel School, Lucerne. Switzerland and was executive chef for NATO in Paris. The chef has published his own cook book, and was instrumental in the revision and enlargement of the new edition of His special ingredients, which he called his four friends, were garlic, accent, Maggi and tobasco sauce. His culinary art was demonstrated by creating seven exotic dishes with a commentary on the ingredients being used, along with helpful kitchen hints. These finished dishes were then given as door prizes.

The bride’s mother wore a floor-length gown of turquoise chiffon over taffeta. The bridegroom’s mother was attired in a floor-length gown of melon colored material with draped neckline. Both mothers wore corsages of pale yellow flowers. Reception Follows Following the wedding ceremony a reception was held at Duncan Hall. The serving table was centered with a four tiered cake decorated with yellow flowers and topped with wedding bells. The bride graduated from Wawasee high school. She is a senior student at Purdue university, West Lafayette. The bridegroom graduated from Cathedral high school, Indianapolis. He is a senior student at Purdue university, West Lafayette. Home Arts club meets in Woo Ison home recently The Home Arts dub met in the Milford home of Mrs. Charleen Woolson for its May meeting with Mrs. Mae Hoover serving as cohostess. Dessert was served at 1:30p.m. with the napkin prize, a planter, being awarded to Mrs. Harold D. Wants. Mrs. Donald Holt, vice president, conducted the business meeting. Following the opening the song of the month, “I Could Have Danced All Night’’ was played. Mrs. Charles Schell gave the devotions for the day. Health and safety remarks were given by Mrs. Raymond Cook ‘ Know Your Heart. ” Mrs. Holt gave helpful hints for garden remarks. “Sewing with Knits” was presented by Mrs. Ross Fadely. She showed many types of knits and explained various helps in their use. She stressed selection of the proper pattern for knit to be used. Roll call was answered by 12 members telling “An Irritating Habit I Have.” The plans were made for a picnic in August It will be held at the home of Juanita Sparks at Dewart Lake and is to be a pot luck.

CELEBRATES Nth — Mrs. Ernest (Harriett) Huff of north of Syracuse and a resident at the Orn nursing home in Milford, celebrated her Nth birthday on Friday, May 17. She is shown above with her daughter, Mrs. Gilbert George of Syracuse. The Questor’s class of the Calvary United Methodist church at Syracuse held a surprise party for Mrs. Huff one day last week.
Ebenezer Ladies plan for June picnic at lake
Twenty niembers and five guests attended the Thursday meeting of the Ebenezer Ladies aid in the r 1 Ligonier home of Mrs. Harold Bitner. Plans were made for the June picnic at the Lake Wawasee home of Mrs. Theries Doll.
John Methods celebrate 40th wedding anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. John Method of Milford celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary Saturday, May 18, at a dinner in Goshen for their family and Mrs. Dewey Leinhart of Wakarusa and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Weisser of Milford. The Methods were married May 18, 1934 in Fort Wayne by Recognition dinner held at Singing Hills A leader recognition dinner was held last Wednesday at Camp Singing Hills, Bristol, honoring Girl Scout and Brownie leaders. A tour was made of the new dining hall and kitchen. Entertainment was provided by the West Noble Thespians. Attending from the Milford area were Luanne Bjella, Carol Stump, Mary Salinas, Kay Dimick, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Wolferman and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wise.

ENGAGED — Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Pavonl of 3M Hiawatha drive, Elkhart, announce the engagement of their daughter, Linda Ann. to William Bushong, son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Bushong. Sr., of r 2 Syracuse. A graduate of Elkhart high school and Ball State university where she received her masters in business education. Miss Pavoni is employed with Miles Laboratories at Elkhart as a secretary to the director of management sciences. Her fiance graduated from Syracuse high school and is a laboratory technician at Miles Laboratories. An October 12 wedding is being planned in Saint Vincent dePaul Catholic church at Elkhart.
Mrs. Calvin Beck, out-going president, presided for the business portion of the day at which time year books were distributed and new officers installed. Mrs. Mabel Snyder served as co-hostess for the day.

The Methods enjoyed a second anniversary dinner last week with Mrs. Method’s mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Kutsch of Fort Wayne. Ta-wa-ten-ya girls meet on Monday The Ta-wa-ten-ya Camp Fire Girls group met Monday afternoon at the scout cabin and made invitations to our ceremonial June 2 at 2 p.m. It will be the last meeting for this school year. The Ta-wa-ten-ya group and Lu-ta-10-la group will be in charge to clean-up the scout cabin on Saturday, June 1, for the ceremonial.

HONORED ON ANNIVERSARY — Mr. and Mrs. Paul Buhrt of r 1 Milford were surprised on May 9 in honor of their 65th wedding anniversary. The family members attending were Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Buhrt and Karen and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Buhrt and family, all of Goshen; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Lutes and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lutes and Teresa, all of Nappanee; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Nemeth of South Bend; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Waldbeser of Milford; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Buhrt and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Buhrt and family of Syracuse; Mr. and Mrs. John Buhrt and Jane and Mr. and Mrs. Ross Deatsman of Warsaw; and Miss Ann Buhrt of New Paris. On Mother’s day the Buhrt clan dined in Nappanee. There were 35 present. This was the 14th consecutive year the family has dined out together on Mother’s day. Following the dinner they were entertained in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Buhrt, r 1 Syracuse.
Mother-daughter banquet is held at Church of Brethern
The annual mother-daughter banquet was held recently at the Syracuse Church of the Brethren with 63 in attendance. The church basement was decorated in spring colors with each table highlighted with a replica of an old-fashioned lamp and matching candles. Miniature vases with dried flowers were given as favors. Mrs. Jack Farrell, Sr., gave the welcome and Mrs. Charles Baldwin, the invocation. Following the meal, Mrs. Morris Stewart and daughter Kathy, gave the responses. Group singing was led by Mrs. Donald Davis. Guest Speaker Mrs. Max Tom introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. Maurine Neterer of Goshen. She spoke on “Blest is the Home That Honors Mothers.” Mrs. George Bowler awarded prizes to Mrs. Gary Tom, mother having the youngest baby; Mrs. Glen Copeland, mother who came the farthest to attend; Mrs. James Losee, mother with the largest number of daughters and daughters-in-law present; Mrs. Valerie Hughes, mother with the largest family; and Mrs. Jesse Mishler, mother with the most great-grandchildren. Mrs. V. G. Kammerdiener received the door prize of a floral centerpiece. The group joined in singing, “God Be With You” as the benediction.

Twilighters club meet in Darr home Mrs. Tim Darr of Syracuse was hostess for the Wednesday night meeting of the Twilighters Bunco club at Syracuse with Mrs. Bill Cobum assisting. Mrs. Richard Plikerd was a guest, and welcomed into the club as a new member. High for the evening went to Mrs. Eugene Henning; low, Mrs. Delbert Whitehead; travel, Mrs. James Mench; and door prize, Mrs. Charles Searfoss. A going away gift was presented Mrs. Gerald Bitner who will be moving soon to New York state.
