Strawberry Valley festival plans discussed at C of C

Jaycees president Larry Waldron discussed needed improvement in the 1974 plans for Ligonier Strawberry Valley festival at the Chamber of Commerce meeting Wednesday. May 15. The meeting was held at bank in Ligonier. Waldron suggested the overall budget must be adjusted to increasing costs The grand parade must have more prize money to attract bands and floats Entries will not come in without more prize money and in the case of bands, without expense money for safe transportation Bob Hyndman. 1974 chairman, vuent over the budget in some detail citing cost increases in recent years It costs fifty cents per plate service for the pancake and sausage breakfast not including the cost of food Over 1200 man hours are required for this Labor Day tradition including time consuming details involved in the staging of the festival. United Methodist church has banquet The Ligonier United Methodist church held its annual motherdaughter banquet Tuesday. May--14, in the church. The dinner and special mother-daughter recognitions were held in the fellow-ship hall and the program was given in the sanctuary upstairs. The varied program included special songs, poems, a reading and group singing. Mrs. Maurice Moser gave a tribute to daughters and her

daughter Kimberly gave a tribute to mothers. Devotions were given by Helen Chaffee. Speakers for the banquet were Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Kennel, seniors from Goshen college. Mrs. Charles (Mildred) Elam said the benediction. After the program, the ladies looked at items which will be offered at the United Methodist bazaar November 9. Plan to repair Perry The West Noble school board recently agreed to contact D. N. Snyder and Sons of Fort Wayne for estimates of cost for repairing tornado damages to Perry school in Ligonier Both the board and the Perry Centralized school PTO concurred they would like to have the children back in the school by next fall. The firm declared the school structurally sound and could be repaired. The portion of the gym left standing after the storm has been torn off the main part of the building Resignations The resignations of teachers Rick Keim. Leland Doebler. Ray Cole, Mrs. Lorene Franklin and Mrs Thora Cotner were accepted. The board voted to proceed with legal details in leasing Washington township school to the township trustee and advisory board for use as a community building Approval was given to Alan Levinson. Indianapolis, to hold a summer basketball camp for Indianapolis children in West Noble high school. Local youths will assist with the program.

French National Honor society awards were presented by Mrs. Louise Rex and went to Debbie McLallin. Jennifer Bandy. Julie Dickerson, Stephanie Krugman, Claire Franks and Kathy Weaver. Math award recipients were Jeanna Cormican. Dave Burnworth and Kathy- Noe. The Nancy Cochran Werker Memorial award is presented each year to a senior girl whose personality, character and citizenship is most like NancyCochran Werker. The selection was made by a committee of the faculty and administration. The 1974 BP W winner is Martha Lehman. Many scholarships were awarded this year to the seniors of West Noble high school. The total amount of scholarships awarded and the list of winners will be published at a later date. Mayor declares May as 'Older American Month' Ligonier mayor Grover H. Patrick has declared May 1974 as Older American Month. There are one half million citizens in Indiana who are over age 65. The theme for this year’s observance is “Older Americans are a National Resource." The mayor s proclamation states. “. . . each community should be aware of the skills, wisdom and experience older Hoosiers have to offer; and should be concerned with establishing opportunities for the use of such skills, wisdom and experiences. “. . . Hoosiers over 65 have given us a heritage a strong and growing state as a result of their courage, resourcefulness and devotion ...” Jerry Carson speaks to the ICT banquet Jerry Carson. Wolflake attorney, was guest speaker for the recent West Noble Interdisciplinary Cooperative Training banquet. He spoke about facing life in the business world. The ICT banquet was held at the V and A Restaurant where over 50 people attended. Awards were given for the outstanding junior and senior ICT students and their training stations. The junior winner was John Reidenbach who is employed at Paul Becker and Sons. Ligonier. John's supervisors are Paul Becker and Fred Ott. Senior student winner was Kathleen McDonald who works at the Monsanto Company in

Indiana, a bankholding company, to acquire Cromwell Capital Corporation. Cromwell is a holding company, based in Nappanee, which operates six finance company offices in northern Indiana. FBT Bancorp. Inc., is a financial services holding company whose principal subsidiary is the First Bank and Trust Company of South Bend, which is the largest financial institution in northern Indiana. It also controls FBT Capital Corporation and FBT Leasing Company, Inc. According to Benton M. Wakefield, Jr., president of FBT Bancorp. Inc., the effective date of the acquisition will be announced in the near future.
