Wawasee girls win sectional with 72

By SANDY GERENCSER The Wawasee girls’ track team captured an easy victory last Tuesday in the girls’ sectional track meet at Goshen. The Warriorettes scored an impressive 72 points for the win. Elkhart Central was second with 38 Goshen had 36. Elkhart Memorial 31 and Warsaw 29 A total of 16 schools participated. Peg Beer won first in the shot put while Judy Moser was fifth. The game was played on the Warrior diamond. The team’s record is 32. Jim Adams was the winning pitcher for Wawasee while Kevin Cotherman was the loser. Jerry Dean and Harlan Hursey each had two hits for the Warriors. The J\’ will play Northfield tomorrow (Thursday) at home at 4:30. ► v Warriors sneak past Panthers 164-165 By SANDY GERENCSER The Wawasee high school golf team edged the North Wood Panthers Monday night in a big conference match. 164-165, at the South Shore course. Jon Owens was low medalist in the nine hole match as he led the Wamors with a 37. Sam Ludwig scored a 41 while Phil Randall notched a 42. Steve Coverstone and Rob Zurcher each tallied a 44. Leading the Panthers with a 39 was Blake Hepler. Jim Miller carded a 40. and Steve Lentz had a 42. Greg Bigler shot a 44 and Ron Walters had a 47. The junior varsity pounded the Panthers as it defeated them, 165189. Ron Bauman led the team with a 39. Bob Johnson and Larry Allen shot 41 and 42 respectively Bill Jones had a 43 while Paul Miller carded a 49.

to start season The Wawasee Ski club will start the 1974 season this week end with a meeting on Sunday, May 26, at 7 p.m. in the home of president Mrs. Lowell Ensinger. Memberships will be taken on Saturday at Merrift’s Marina from 1-3 p.m. All interested skiers are welcome to join the club. Show skiers and tournament skiers are needed. Beginners are urged to join and learn the ski art with club members.
