New England landscapes is topic Lakeland Kiwanis club met May 6 with John McClure. Huntington, as the only guest present. George Kennedy. Wolcottville, a member of the Indiana conservation department, was guest speaker. He showed slides of landscapes. buildings and scenes in New England. The youth services committee met following the regular Kiwanis meeting. Officers Election of officers will be held May 13. The proposed slate of new officers are: E P McCarty — president Sherman Bryant and Maurice Crow — president-elect Bob Morgan and Stu Walker — vice president Ron Owens, Theo Thomas. Dick Long. Tom Willman. Ron Ritchey and Dean Hartle — board of directors. Mrs. John Rodgers entertains for Pierceton dub Mrs. John Rodgers was hostess for the May 6 meeting of Pierceton home extension club. Mrs. Leon Kubacki assisted the hostess. The meeting was opened in the usual manner by Mrs. Maurice Scott, president. Mrs. Dale Wines read the meditation. The lesson “Sewing with knits” was given by Mrs. Charles Crouch. Roll call response was “Things we enjoy as a family.” Mrs. Milan Mishler was a guest. It was announced that club members will be bell ringers for the mental health association in Washington township, during the month of May. Mrs. Ralph Akers is hostess for 'Mom's Night Out' Mrs. Ralph Akers was chairman and Mrs. Harold Anderson co-chairman, for the Charm 'N Chatter home extension club "Mom’s Night Out” held May 6 at a local restaurant. The tables were decorated with pink floral arrangements. Mrs. Ernest Lawshe was guest speaker. Her topic was “How to make usable things out of castaways.” Installation of officers was held. The new officers are: Mrs. Preston Gregory — president Mrs. Vern Hunt — vice president Susie Ward — treasurer Helen Kline — secretary

Meditation court constructed by 'Come-Join-Us' class Members of the “Come-Join-Us” class of North Webstar United Methodist church have constructed a meditation court. The court is in an area between the old and new church building units. It is made of stone and contains trees, shrubs, plants and a bird bath. Ladies of the class fixed lunch for the volunteer workers. Mrs. Jay Wood was kitchen chairman. Plans for the court were drawn by Dick Shipley. David Stookey is president of the Sunday school class. Hill Toppers meet May 8 Monroe Hilltoppers home extension club met May 8 at the home of Mrs. Wilbur Smith. Mrs. Rene Baker assisted the hostess. Mrs. Gene Cotton presented the meditation and garden remarks. Frances Faurote discussed "Safety in the garden” She also gave a lesson “Living Alone creatively.” Roll call response was “The time I made the biggest fool of myself." Mrs. Dale Beery gave a lesson entitled ‘Cholesterol.” The next meeting will be held June 5 at the home of Mrs. Robert Phend. Sechrist 65 club meets Mrs. Steve Williams was hostess for the May 8 meeting of Sechrist 65 home extension club. Mrs. Steve White assisted the hostess. Roll call response was “What I look forward to in the future.” Spring achievement was discussed and a letter read from the Cancer Society. The group voted to make a donation to the county Cancer Society. During the business session the Purdue Homemakers conference was discussed and a summer outing was planned. Plans were also made to attend the Tulip Festival at Holland, Mich, and to help collect for the County Mental Health Assoc. Mrs. Larry Teghtmeyer presented a lesson on “Sewing with knits,” The June meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Randy Thomas. Installation of officers will be held. Mother-daughter banquet held Mrs, Paul Schrider gave the opening prayer for the May 5 mother-daughter banquet at North Webster Church of the Brethren. The men of the church served the meal. Pictures of nursery rhymes decorated the fellowship room. Eva Locke and Ruth Rose were co-chairmen for the event. Musical presentations included duets by; Mrs. Joe Shock and Mrs. Steve Richcreek: Mrs. Rebecca Gaines and Mrs. Phil Mock; Miss Holly Barrett and Miss Kay Rowe. Sol 06 were sung by Miss Mary Kiser, Mrs. James Rowe and Mrs. David Miller. A playlette “Words of wisdom from Mother Goose” was written and introduced by Mrs. Glen Whitehead. Goose in costume. Mrs. Merlin Cassell played the part of the “Skeptic”. A chorus erf ladies sang songs appropriate to the Christian theme brought out by the nursery rhymes. Pam Minear, Kim Gaines, Rhonda Rose, Sarah Guy, Robin Rose and Pam Penn took part in the playlette and recited nursery rhymes. Mrs. Paul Royer assisted the girls with their parts. Mrs. Mock and Mrs. Joe Barrett provided piano accompaniment. The playlette closed with group singing of “Let The Beauty of Jesus Be Seen In Me.” Committees for the evening were: Mrs. Howard Kiser, chairman, Mrs. Mock and Mrs. Whitehead, program; Mrs. Ray Penn, chairman and Mrs. Earl Grim, food; Mrs. Dennis Richcreek and Mrs. Steve Richcreek, decorations. Day camp reservations are due All North Webster Girl Scouts are urged to turn in their reservation for day camp. Day camp will be held June 10 through June 14 at Whispering Pines campground. Mrs. Mildred Gray is Girl Scout business manager and is also in charge of day camp reservations. Barbee church ladies meet on May 9 The Ladies Christian Service of Barbee Community church met May 9. The meeting opened with group singing. Mrs. Osha Bragg led the group in studying the lesson “Obedience and fear of what man will think.” The “Meals on wheels” project was discussed. A quilt was knotted. It will be given, as a gift, to a newly married couple. A sack lunch was served at noon. The afternoon was spent cleaning cupboards in the church basement. Mary Circle meets May 9 Members of Mary Circle of North Webster United Methodist church met May 9. Plans were discussed for making noodles for the church's annual chicken and noodle supper to be served during the Mermaid Festival. Mrs. Glen Goins gave devotions. Rev. John Weeks was guest speaker. He discussed “Life styles of youth.” The mother-daughter banquet will be held May 21. It will be a salad buffet. Mrs. Jerry Badskey served refreshments. Junior choir sang May 5 The Junior choir of North Webster United Methodist church sang for the May 5 service of Ligonier United Methodist church. They presented the musical “Zach Junior.” VISIT WITH PARENTS Mr. and Mrs. Joe Barrett, r 1 Warsaw, spent May 9 visiting with his father, Hollice Barrett, at Home hospital, Lafayette. They also stopped at Boswell to visit with his mother, Mrs. Hollice Barrett.

Barbee Busy Bees Barbee Busy Bee’s home extension club met May 9 at the home of Mrs. David Richards, r 1 Pierceton. Mrs. Arden Lei ter was co-hostess. Final plans were made for a bake sale to be held June 8. Karleen Richards and Mrs. Molly Richards gave the lesson “Sewing with knits.” Roll call response was “A favorite spring flower.” It was announced that the club will present the lesson at the next meeting of Millar’s Merry Manor nursing home, home extension dub. The lesson will be “How to make Gay 90’s plates." Mrs. Joan Leiter gave the garden remarks. She discussed “The language of flowers. A white elephant auction was held. Members of the club who participated in the Spring Achievement fashion show were: ' Mrs. Charolette Richards, who modeled a lavender and gray pants suit with convertable collar : Karleen Richards wore a brown and white stripped suit of polyester knit; Mrs. David Richards wore blue and white slacks with matching pull over sleeveless top and white ruffled blouse. Each lady made the outfit that she wore. Past Chiefs meet May 8 Mrs. Frank Green was hostess for the May 8 meeting of North Webster Past Chiefs of the Pythian Sisters. Mrs. Harry Bause opened the meeting by reading a poem about greeting cards. The minutes of the April meeting were read by Myrtle Griesinger, secretary. Following the social hour a luncheon of sandwiches and cake was served to the eight members and one guest present. The next meeting will be June 12 at the home of Mrs. Russell Moore. Bible Quiz team competes Stephanie Davenport, Jeannie Dye, LaUrel Mitchell and Becky Weeks are members of the North Webster United Methodist church Bible Quiz team. 1 The team recently won the central sub-district Bible Quiz championship, but lost the district championship by two points.

COMMUNITY NEWS Vera Gillen is the new secretary at North Webster United Methodist church. North Webster United Methodist church nursery school children held an outing at Fronke Park, Fort Wayne, on May 8. » — NW— Driver, passengers jailed after mishap A single car accident Thursday, May 9, at 12:30 a m. on the Om road, one half mile west of Milford, resulted in minor injuries to three Goshen persons and one Ligonier man. Driver of the auto, James H. Hunter, 38, Goshen, missed a curve with the car coming to a stop in the Ray Bess yard. Passengers in the auto were Edith Doan, 39, and Frank B. Sperko. 34, both of Goshen, and Edward Miller, 26, Ligonier. The auto struck a tree and rolled over before coming to rest in the Bess yard with the loss being set at $4,000 to the 1974 model car. All the passengers were arrested for public intoxication and the driver was jailed for driving under the influence of intoxicating beverages. All four persons refused medical treatment.

State police give traffic, crime report Indiana state police at Ligonier post have announced following end of the month report for the month of April on their activities in Kosciusko county: , Hours worked — 903^ Miles patrolled — 16,140 Accidents investigated — 8 Arrests effected — 99 Warnings issued — 102. Motorists assisted — 1$ Lieutenant Edward C. Anweiler, district commander, reports that five troopers assigned to the county were responsible for the above work. The Ligonier district comprises the seven northeastern counties of the state and officers conducted 90 crimiral investigations which resulted in the arrests of 65 persons. Paul Ruch of Milford returned April 22 from Arizona where he spent the winter. Mr. Ruch also traveled to Bettendorf, lowa, last week where he attended the funeral of his daughter-in-law, Evelyn Ruch.
