Dave's Speed Shop broken into Dave Hollar, owner of Dave’s Speed Shop on SR IS and CR 900 N, south of Milford, reported to county police Sgt. Richard Mikel that his business was broken into at 11:35 Friday night. Hollar was sleeping in the attic in a sleeping bag when he heard glass breaking downstairs. He saw a young man crawling out the window and ordered him to stop but the young man fled to his car. Hollar fired at the car and reported to Sgt. Mikel that the auto will show damage on the side where the shot hit. A tape deck was stolen from Hollar’s car and on the ground outside the window was a manifold, two tachometers and shift floater. Bowen issues proclamation for Soil Stewardship week
Governor Otis Bowen has issued a proclamation for Soil Stewardship Week. May 19-26. The Kosciusko County Soil and Water Conservation District and its Auxiliary, in observation of the week, has ordered an ample supply of minister's booklets and church bulletin inserts. These are available on request. The theme for 1974 is “A Different Place”. It stresses the wide range of developments that have, in very recent times, profoundly altered the American scene. To quote: “It may not be Leesburg man hit in Warsaw Henry Paul Byrer, 82, Leesburg, was struck by an auto driven by Kenneth A. Rohm. 22, 212 South Lake St., Warsaw, at 2:06 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Market and Buffalo streets in Warsaw. City patrolman Brant Nellans investigated reporting Rohm made a left turn onto Market street from South Buffalo street and failed to see Byrer crossing the street. Rohm was cited for failure to yield the right of way to a pedestrian and Byrer was treated and released from Murphy Medical Center in Warsaw.

Officers reported the truck was southbound on the state road and seeing a left turn signal on the VW ahead, pulled to the right to pass. The small car did not turn left due to a closed entrance at that point and turned her signal for a right turn into the Pacer station striking the left rear panel of the truck. Syracuse police investigated.

Members of the Wawasee high school girls track team won the regional meet Saturday and will be participating in the state meet this week end at the Purdue campus. Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Miller announce the engagement of their daughter. Susan Kay, to Keith Hunsberger with a June 29 wedding date set. Rickey Edgar has been promoted to associate engineer in NIPSCo's Goshen district.
