'Show Boat' is theme of Wawasee's Spring Review

Wawasee high school choirs and concert orchestra are scheduled to give their Spring Review on Friday evening, May 10, at 7:30 p.m. The program will be presented in the Wawasee high school auditorium. “Show Boat" is the theme selected for the annual Spring Review. Performing groups are the Cadet Char, Women's Choir, Concert Choir, Swing Choir and the Concert Orchestra These organizations will perform selections of musicals, broadway hit tunes, rock, classical and arrangements written by students Featured on the program will be a vocal solo by Sue Niles, piano solo by Kim Augsburger, cello solo by Roxanne Auer, string bass solo by Larry Allen, vocal solo by Jannette Zimmerman and a vocal selection by die Senior Male Ensemble Joe Kennedy will accompany choral selections with his electric guitar and Jeff Housouer will assist as percussionist A flute trio, Becky Replogle, Kim Augsburger and Mike Silveus. will be featured with orchestra accompaniment. Craig Koble. a feshman, has designed the stage back drop and the cover page of the program The public is invited to attend the program and to join in honoring the seniors who have served in the choirs and orchestra Tickets will be available at the door.

pK ORGAN PRELUDE — Rick Moore will present a prelude of popular tunes on his Lowrey organ at the Wawasee high school choirs and orchestra Spring Review Friday evening. The concert is scheduled to begin at 7:3® p.m. in the auditorium with Rick’s prelude set for 7:15.

Talking bike at Webster school recently ‘•Mike the talking bike” appeared May 1 at North Webster elementary school. Mike’s appearance was in conjunction with the bike safety program. A bike safety inspection will be held at the school on May 17. The inspection is sponsored by the youth services committee of Lakeland Kiwanis club. All youngsters participating in the bike safety check will be given a pennant. Members of the Kiwanis youth services committee are Dick Long, chairman; Don Arnold, Walt Corbin, Homer Shoop, Theo Thomas, Otto Fultz, Devon Phelps, Robert Stover, Duane Leedy, Ron Roberts, James Mendenhall and Ralph Haynes, director. George Xanders named to dean's list SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — George Xanders (4.0), son of Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Xanders, 178 N. Shore Dr., Syracuse, has been named to the dean’s list at Wittenberg university for the winter term of the 1973-74 academic year. The dean’s list honors fulltime students at Wittenberg who earn academic averages of 3.86 or better (4.0 is straight “A”). Wittenberg is a private liberal arts university located in Springfield, Ohio. More than 2,400 students from all sections of the United States and from several foreign countries compose the undergraduate community.

Speech and drama awards presentations set for May 8

The Fourth Wall Productions Drama club of Wawasee high school will be holding its annual awards presentation on Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the Wawasee Bowl. . This will be the second annual awards presentation for the club. Awards will be given in the following categories: Best actor, best actress, best supporting actor, best supporting actress, the directors award for outstanding participation and cooperation during the year by * drama dub member, backstage award, outstanding freshman award, make-up and costume award, and special senior recognition awards. Also included in the presentation will be the Warrior speech team awards of the most improved speaker and the most valuable speaker for 1873-74. 4 Senia* Mike Grotz, drama club president, will be master of ceremonies Students presenting awards will be Larry Allen, Fl lb Lakeland Youth Center director Dan Caskey has released the following schedule for the center at Syracuse: Tuesday, May 7 — Girls softball meeting was held at 4; weight lifting, 4-7; and karate, 7-9 Wednesday, May 8 — Judo, 7:30-9 Thursday, May 9 — Weight lifting, 4-7; karate, 7-9; and pool match at Warsaw, 4 p.m. Friday, May 10 — Open 3-9 Saturday, May 11 — Open 6-9; bike trip 3-6 Sunday — Closed Monday, May 13 — Weight VVs tellers Tuesday, May 14 — Weight lifting, 4-7; karate 7-9. The center will be bolding a car month and members will be contacting persons on this. Future plans of the center include an overnight bike trip by members of the Explorers dub to Chain-O-Lakes state park near Albion. A trip to the Indiana State Dunes is set for Saturday, June 8. Girls are reminded there is still time to join one of the softball teams. Plans are for the girls to play in an eight team league including teams from Syracuse, West Noble, Central Noble, North Webster and Westview. Letters have been sent to the physical education teachers at Pierceton, South Whitley, Milford, Mentone and Warsaw, inviting them to join a league. The following Lakeland Youth Center members participated in the trash pick-up on May 4: Jackie Mangas, Joni Denny, Janine England, Marty DeWitt, Blatt Fry, Toni Flowers, Tami Flowers, Deb Deiterly, Tonna Flowers, Linda Lowe, Jay Thorn, Walter Leach and director Dan Caskey. The crew picked up litter from the youth center to the Sleepy Owl location south of Syracuse, filling approximately 75 burlap bags. LAKELAND LOCALS Blrs. The spring production was the Kaufman and Hart comedy “You Can’t Take It With You". Club sponsors are Alan Zerkel and Joel Robbins. Linda Kehoe serves as make up supervisor for the productions. S BOO presented to North Webster's music department It has been announced that SBOO has been presented to the music department of North Webster junior high school. The money was raised by the Band Boosters organization which held various fund raising projects during the past year. The money will be used to purchase music, instruments and records for use in the school music department. While in Fort Wayne the youngsters also toured the Eckrich meat plant. Teachers in charge of the trip were Mrs. Charles Pryor, Mrs. Elaine Turner and Miss Myra Roberts.

A MEMORIAL FOR “BIKE” — Members of the Student Council collected money for a memorial to the memory of Arlo Beiswanger, social studies teacher at the school who died this spring. The money was divided three ways. With books being purchased for both the junior high school and town libraries. “Lincoln, His Words and His World," by the editors of Country Beautiful; “The National Parks of America" by Stewart L. Udall; "The Civil War” by Bruce Catton; “Wheels Across America” by Clarence P. Horning; and “Indoor Plants” by Lovell Benjamin were purchased for the school library.
