n Leo F. Kowallik Sendees for Leo F. Kowallik. 73. r 2 Syracuse (Papakeechie lake) were conducted Monday at 1:30 pm. with Father Eugene Zimmerman and Rev. Noble Greene officiating. Kowallik passed away Friday at 7:40 p.m. at the Goshen hospital after an illness of several years. Death was due to complications from cancer Mr. Kowallik was born January 21. 1901 at Saint Annburg Germany and had been a resident of the Syracuse community for the past 28 years. He was an employee of Sea Nymph Boat Co, was active in Boy Scouts, a veteran of both WWI and WWII and was a former member of the local Lions club. He Was with the peace corps in Micronesia. Capt. Richard Kowallik, Redstone Arsenal. Ala.; one daughter. Mrs. Jerry (Ann) deSomer, Milford; three grandchildren; and relatives in Germany. Interment was in Violett cemetery at Goshen. The family asks that memorials be sent to Mrs. deSomer at box 291 Milford. Plans are to purchase something for the Goshen hospital in Mr. Kowallik’s memory. Olive K. Pierce Graveside services were held at Gas City Tuesday for Olive K. Pierce of r 2 Leesburg. The widow of Bruce Pierce, founder of Tippecanoe Boat Company, Mrs. Pierce passed away at 10:45 Saturday evening following an extended illness. Mrs Don Ahrns was released from the Memorial hospital at South Bend on Friday, April 19. Mrs. Harry Beer of Milford was released from the Murphy Medical Center at Warsaw on Monday, April 22. Mrs. Carl Duncan of Milford suffered a broken leg Monday, April 15, at her home She is presently recuperating at her home in Milford. Mrs. Raymond Custer of Milford was removed to her home Saturday afternoon from the Saint Joseph hospital in Fort Wayne. She will remain in traction for at least this week. Carlton Jones of Milford was admitted to the Whitley County hospital at Columbia Qty early this week. Fannie Scoville of Leesburg was dismissed from the W’hitley County hospital early this week MILLER INFANT IS IMPROVING Shantel Renee, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Miller of r 3 Syracuse, continues to improve at th£ Elkhart hospital. Shantel was born on April 4, some two months premature and tipped the scales at three pounds, five ounces. In the past two and one-half weeks she has increased her weight to three pounds, 12 ounces. While the baby is in the intensive care unit she is reported to be gaining rapidly. She must remain in the hospital until she reaches five pounds. ' 'Swing into Spring' is theme of show “Swing into Spring’’ is the theme of a style show to be sponsored by the Kosciusko County Democrat Women’s Organization on Wednesday, May 1, at 6:30 p.m. at the International Friendship House (formerly Westminster Hotel) at Winona Lake. AU the latest styles for both women and men wiU be shown by Hull House of Warsaw and Helfrich’s Women’s Apparel of Warsaw. A salad bar with ham will precede the style show which is an annual event of the ladies club. Tickets may be purchased in advance from any club member or purchased at the door. The public is invited. Primary Mothers hold year-end dinner event The final meeting of the year for the Primary Mothers club at Syracuse was a carry-in dinner Monday night at the home of Mrs. Jay Price. There were 17 members and one guest, Mrs. Larry Yoder, in attendance. Co-host esses were Mrs. Larry Clodfelter and Mrs. John Roth. During a short business meeting, a May garage sale was planned. Films were shown on the Easter egg hunts held during the past two years, noting Mrs. Douglas Schmahl was chairman of the event this year which was termed a success. The next gathering of the club will be the annual spring party of ail four mothers clubs on May 13 with the Junior Mothers dub as hosts. Oil may still the angry waves but it seems to stir up trouble in many areas

SERGEANT RE-ENLISTS — Sergeant Ist class Darold E. Goon, right, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen E. Goon, r 2 Leesburg, re-enlisted for six years in the regular army while serving with the U.S. Army aviation test board at Fort Rulker, Ala. Presenting a certificate of discharge is major George D. Singer, chief of the test board's quality control section. Sgt. Goon is noncommissioned officer in charge of the section. His wife, Sandra, is with him in Alabama.
County SWCD board meets
The Kosciusko County Soil and Water Conservation District board met in April with vicechairman Leai Tucker presiding. A report was given by Robert Norris on the Area II supervisors workshop. Supervisors Norris and Perry Hathaway attended the 13 county workshop, held in Wabash at Honeywell Memorial Foundation Center. Accompanying them was district conservationist Joe Wilson. Mrs. Robert Hoerr attended the workshop session fa district secretaries. Mr. and Mrs. Myron Metzger and Joe Wilson accompanied contestant Lee Beer to the Area II speech contest, held in Columbia City. Lee’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Beer of Milford, also attended the dinner meeting. Tucker announced the dates for Oliver Lake Conservation Camp, which will be held July 14 thru 17. For the first time this year, the camp will be co-educational. Kosciusko county’s allotment for sponsored campers in 1974 is three boys and three girls. Soil stewardship material is available upon request at the soil conservation office. The district and its auxiliary have ordered enough booklets for each church

The Auxiliary will distribute them to all public and parochial schools. New cooperators accepted were: Rudy Yoder. Washington; and John Yoder. Lake. A total of 1,754 acres were brought under cooperative agreement for the month. The next meeting will be Tuesday, May 7, at 8 p.m.
