THIS IS National Library’ Week and all residents of Our Town are urged to visit the local library The purpose of the week is to encourage ail people U> read more and make greater use of their libraries. Twenty-two thousand new books were published last year, along with some 9.000 newspapers and thousands of other publications A national report slates. “The local newspaper is still the major source of day-to-day information, and the library is the reference point in every community where people go to learn or read for pleasures.*’ “The library", it continues, is the symbol and the citadel of knowledge and an informed public. In America, this is the key to freedom itself." MRS. HOMER (Ann) Hampton of Waubee Lake is "walking on air .** She caught a six pound bass last week. MRS EMERSON (Connie) Coy of Syracuse and Ted Speicher of Nappanee have ways of beating die increasing cost of gasoline Both have taken to riding motorcycles to work. Both Connie and Ted are employees at the Milford plant of The MailJournal. This ail came as a surprise last week when comely Connie spun up to the back door one day.

Pastor of the Illinois church is Carl Shearer, former Milford minister. Wash., granted permission to go back on the air April 19. just four days after the march. All are now residents of California The letter reads. “Hope all are fine back that way and that your weather is idee. It has been 85 the last two days here. I have a nice suntan. Went to beach yesterday. Tell all in the church (they are farmer members of the Milford Christian church) hello and we do think of all and seems like we are even in some of your services. Hope all of God’s work in the church keeps going good. We hope to build our own church now in a few mouths. One of our informants tells us the Coans are currently planning a trip to the Scandinavian countries in May. Open house in honor of Don Frantz As Don Frantz retires May 1 after serving 264 years as an extension agent, the last nearly 16 years in Kosciusko county, he is being honored at an open-house reception in the Shrine building at the Kosciusko county fairgrounds from 2 to 5 p.m.. Sunday. April 28. All friends and associates are invited to attend. Mr. Frantz has been a popular extension agent throughout the entire county as well as popular in many local and state activities. He helped formulate the Soil and Water Conservation District and the county area plan commission. He has also been a member of the National Commission of Eradication of Marijuana. Other activities include president of Indiana Extension Agents association. 1969. member of National County Agents association of states relations committee, program of work committee and recognition of awards committee. <967 to 1969; member of midwest universities committee on poultry programs, 1966 to 1971; and member of State Farm Bureau poultry advisory committee. 1964 to 1968. He is also a member of the Warsaw Rotary club. In 1972. he was named Warsaw's man of the year by the Warsaw Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Frantz is a member of the First United Methodist church of Warsaw, associate lay leader of the Elkhart district Methodist church, and a director of the church sponsored Bashor Home for Boys near Goshen. Probably his last major accomplishment was the coordination of help in the agricultural area after the recent tornado devastation in Kosciusko county. He is a native of Tippecanoe county having graduated from Stockwell high school and Purdue university and has done post graduate work at Wisconsin university, Cornell university and Colorado State university. Other counties he served as extension agent were Wells and Vigo counties. He served in the United States Army during World War 11. Mr. Frantz and his wife, Mildred, of Warsaw are the parents of two children. Marshall county REMC 9ets federal loan WASHINGTON, D. C. — The Marshall County Rural Electric Membership corporation has been awarded a loan totalling $487,000 from the Rural Electrification Administration (REA), according to an announcement from the office of Second District Congressman Earl F. Landgrebe. Purpose of the loan, according to Landgrebe, is to finance service for 460 additional customers including 53 miles of distribution line and system improvements. The borrower will obtain supplemental financing from the National Rural Utilities Cooperative Finance corporation. The Marshall county REMC serves customers in Kosciusko. Starke, Fulton and Saint Joseph counties, in addition to all of Marshall county. Paul E. Winn of Culver is president of the Marshall county REMC and Harley A. Justus is the manager. Daphene Byrd celebrates birthday Mr and Mrs David Byrd of Syracuse entertained Sunda*,, April 21, for their daughter Daphene, who celebrated ha second birthday. Those attending the party were relatives.
