Lockerbie of Goshen and Lake Wawasee received a newsletter from their daughter Marilyn, a sophomore at Hanover college, Hanover, telling about tornado damage done to college buildings and grounds by the April 3 twister that hit that Ohio River town. The newsletter contains a statement by college president John E. Horner, stating that from |B.MO to 110.000 damage was done on the campus, but that the college chapel was not damaged in the slightest. "Fhe storm that hit in Kosciusko county around 6:20 p.m. on that fateful day. hit at Hanover at 3:51 pm. NIPSComen tore up the sidewalk in front of the company's Syracuse office last week in order to repair a leaky water line, and did a fine job replacing the sidewalk when they had finished.

Syracuse police officer Joe Thornburg has restricted his wide smile recently. Reason: he knocked out a front tooth while helping his brother ( a tornado victim) move some of his personal belongings. First Charter Insurance and Augsburger's Food Palace will be sharing office space in Milford, according to John Walker, First Chart er manager, and John B. Augsburger, vice president of the latter firm. First Charter purchased the one-story brick building on the corner of Main and Catherine streets in Milford and will open the Milford Insurance Agency in the front with Augsburger's central bookkeeping office in the rear of the building. Look for a new business to open in Wawasee Village about the third week in May. Mrs. Howard (Pee Wee (Ruth) Sellers of Syracuse and Mrs. John P. (Barbara) Stack of Goshen will open the IVY HUT in the Village building formerly occupied by Fran’s Flowers. They will sell potted plants, candles, pottery, etc. More on this later. Brownsburg high school senior Dave Overman has been named to the Indiana high school south all-star football squad by the committee of football coaches association. Members of the Wings Over Wawasee flying club are holding a rummage and bake sale at Wawasee Airport on Saturday and Sunday, May 4 and 5. with proceeds to go toward reconstruction of the demolished hangars and other airport buildings. It was just a year ago yesterday that the three mysterious fires occurred at North Webster, including the complete burn-out of the Augsburger Food Palace in the uptown area. Noticed: The conspicuous absence of Harry VanHemert s printed matter in the Syracuse license branch. VanHemert is a Republican candidate for township assessor and his opponent is Col. Joe Gray, whose literature in the license bureau is in obvious abundance. Many in the community will be saddened next week, however, many well-wishes go with two lovely ladies leaving the Syracuse community. Mrs. Melville (Dorothy) Smith, a Syracuse resident since 1928 and ever-interested in community activities, is leaving Monday for Sarasota, Fla., to make her home. She will be residing at Unit 19, Retirement Unit. 1597 South Tuttle avenue, Sarasota. Fla., 33589. Then again, a house companion for quite sometime. Mrs. Blanche Hay, will be returning to California to live and help with and visit her family. It can’t be good-bye but just so long, as we will surely see or hear from both of these fine ladies again. CRC has April meeting The Columbia Reading Circle of Milford had its April meeting at the home of Mrs. Larry Haney. The meeting was led by Mrs. Max Duncan, club president. Mrs. Duncan opened the meeting with the poem, "Easter Prayer.” Plans for a style show for the next meeting were announced. The show will be May 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the Christian church activities center. Members are to bring guests to the meeting. The program was presented by Mrs. Gertrude Kiser of North Webster Mrs. Kiser is an artist and does designs for greeting cards at Clarksville in North Webster. The program included a discussion of greeting card design and an example of some of Mrs. Kiser’s work. Refreshments were served at the conclusion of the meeUqg. Tuesday auto mishap on Pickwick Road ~ 9 Approximately SSOO in damage was estimated to two autos Tuesday at 4:45 p.m. on the Pickwick road at Syracuse. Involved were a 1967 Opel (friven by Rebecca Lindzy, 18, r 3 Syracuse, and a 1968 Chevrolet driven by Jennie M. Sommers, 68. r 1 Syracuse. The mishap occurred as the Lindzy vehicle pulled onto the south berm or edge of the parking lot between the Burger store and Dairy Queen with the driver looking for a television store in the area. The driver told officers another occupant of the auto stated it was clear to turn and in doing so thought a sporting goods store across the street was what she was looking for and started to cross the Pickwick road hitting the westbound Sommers car. No mjuires were reported.

Lake Wawasee claimed the life of little Susette Osborn of Fort Wayne near noon Sunday and the body was found a short time later about 130 feet from the cottage where she was visiting. Syracuse town board members will be asked to give serious Youth center benefits from Saturday party The South Shore Golf club was the scene Saturday night of a benefit party sponsored by the Lakeland Youth Center board of directors at Syracuse. Approximately 180 guests turned out to enjoy a buffet dinner and evening of fun, following a hot but lovely spring day leaving many with sunburns. Appreciation was extended from the directors for generous support of the third annual benefit The center is taking’ under the able leadership of director Dan Caskey and many area youths are daily participating in events which would otherwise be unavailable to them.
