flatteries without winking! Tall men, sun crowned, who live above the fog In public duty, and in private thinking: For while the rabble with their creeds, Their large professions and their little deeds Mingle in selfish strife, lo! Freedom weeps. Wrong rules the land, and waiting Justice sleeps. — Josiah Holland. The above was copied by Mrs. James B. Ridgeway from a 1915 school composition book which belonged to her late husband. She ask the question "Does it fit the times of 1974? We think our readers can answer that for themselves as it doesn’t take too long to find the answer after reading the poem which carries the title "Wanted — Men". AS ALWAYS, the sunny days of spring mean thousands of bicycles will show up on the streets and highways of the nation. With the gas shortage and

broadening adult interest, there will be more bikes on the road than ever before. This makes bike safety week, to be commemorated in 1974 from April 2227, of unprecedented importance. Cyclists of all ages should make this an occasion to learn about their responsibilities. Observance of the rules of the road and common sense safety precautions stressed during bike safety week could keep someone from getting seriously injured or even killed. MR. AND Mrs. John Chambers and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Bushong of Waubee Lake have returned after a two-week fishing vacation along the Saint John river in Florida. MR. AND Mrs. Randall Dewart were among those visiting in Milford over the Easter holidays. The Dewarts, former residents, now reside in Hickory, S. C. ELDON WILSON, minister of the Christian church in Our Town, set a goal of 400 for Easter Sunday morning church services. His goal was met and then some as over 450 persons attended church services. A preaching rally will be held at the church this coming week end with services at 7:30 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday nights. All are welcome to attend. MR. AND Mrs. Richard Felkner and family of near Our Town have returned to Milford after spending the Easter vacation in Florida. MISS KATHY Weisser. six-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Weisser of r 1 Milford, presented a piano solo, ‘‘Christ the Lord is Risen Today,** as special music during the children's opening worship service on Easter Sunday at the Bethel Church of the Brethren.

ONE OF our little birds tell us the gang at the elementary school had a party of sorts today in honor of custodian Wilbur Baumgartner. Mr. Baumgartner’s birthday is today. SPRING HAS Sprung ... or something! Many robins have been spotted and here and there a flower is in bloom. Many townspeople are working in their yards, doing those jobs that have accumulated during the winter. The weatherman promises another warm-up after Easter’s cold, windy, wet weather. At this writing there is a certain nip in the air that tells one even though spring is here winter hasn’t given up and many residents scraped frost again on Tuesday morning. However, one can't complain when the sun is shining so brightly. Prior to the Easter chill Saturday dawned bright and clear and many golfers from Our Town were spotted on area courses. MAD president N. John Perry has appointed Dan Levernier to spearhead this year's Memorial day festivities. That holiday will be here in the very near future, being just a little over five weeks away.

How Much Is Local Option Costing You? How much is the “Local Option Tax” costing you as a wage earner? Proponents of the tax claim • that we are receiving a 30 per cent reduction in our property tax due to the local option per cent from your gross wages). This is not true. Y’ou are receiving a 21 per cent tax reduction due to the 2 per cent increase in sales tax that you have been paying since last June. The local option tax will reduce your real and personal property tax only seven per cent. One per cent reduction is due to lowering operating balances and one per cent is due to the Federal assistance programs.
