Wawasee second in three-way track meet

By SANDY GERENCSER The Wawasee track team, under the direction of Jerry Minton, placed second in a trUiMular meet last Thursday. They scored 58 points only to follow DeKalb with 674. East Noble, the host school, was third with 33. One of the highlights of the meet was the setting of a new Wawasee school record. Senior Mark Reiff set the record in his specialty, the discus. Mark hurled the platter 163* 1”. Coach Minton indicated that his throw is thought to be the best in the state so far this year. Mark also finished third in the shot put Another Warrior record was tied as Chad Singrey leaped 61** in the high jump; Jeff Rhodes placed third. Jeff Bohnstedt was a double winner for Wawasee. He won the 100 yard dash in :10 2 and the 220 in :23.7. " Uvi Carvajal and Ralph Reiff placed first and second respectively in the 440 Ralph and Uvi also finished second and fourth respectively in the long jump. Girls tennis team falls to Manchester

It is coached by Don Scholer The girls were defeated in thenfirst match of the season by Manchester last Thursday at Wawasee, 4-2. Manchester captured all four singles matches. Nancy Hoover defeated Amy Purdum, 8-6. Sandy Amiss beat Sue Connolly, 84. Warrior golf team tops Concord at Oak Hills

Members of the Wawasee high school golf team came away with victories when the A team, B team and freshmen met Northern Lakes Conference foe Concord at the Oak Hills course Monday night. The A team won 176-179 and the B team won 185-199 The freshmen reportedly played well in their first outing on another course. Sam Ludwig led the A team with 43, Steve Coverstone and Rob Zurcher each shot 44, Jon Owens shot 45 and Ron Baumah shot 49. Concord’s Ted Tavernier was low medalist for the day

JV falls to DeKalb, East Noble harriers

By SANDY GERENCSER The junior varsity track team from Wawasee high school fell to strong DeKalb and East Noble teams last Thursday DeKalb won first with 75 points, East Noble had 53 and Wawasee had 28. Winners from the Warrior tepee were Dan Miller and Jerry Rhodes, second and third respectively, in the shot put. Jerry also placed third in the discus. Rick Bauman captured first in the long jump with a leap of 17’4*4”. Marty Welker finished third in the mile run. Dan Walker was second in the 440 and Gary Klenke was third in the 880. Tri-Rollers plan for woods trail The Tri-Rollers club of North Webster met on Saturday with 26 members present. The members decided to meet on April 21 at Read’s Castte of Values to make trails thru the woods. Members are asked to take tools to the meeting to help with the project. At 1 p.m. a weiner roast will be held. April 28 has been set as the alternate date in case of bad weather. The next regular meeting of the dub will be at 8 p.m. on May 11 at Read’s.

Warriorette track team triumphs over NLC rivals

By SANDY GERENCSER Marcia Carpenter’s track team nearly exterminated Concord and North Wood last Wednesday. Wawasee scored 874 points while Concord had 194 and North Wood had 18. The Warriorettes captured first in every event. Three girls qualified for sectional competition in the long jump. They were Bev Berghorn, first with a jump of 16’4”; Peg Beer, second with 15’84”; and Barb Brouwer, tied for third with 15’6”. By SANDY GERENCSER The Wawasee golf team won its first match of the season as it clubbed the Northfield Norsemen, 159-216, last Thursday at the South Shore course. The Warriors played a nine hole match with a par of 36. They were matched against a young Northfield team in the process of rebuilding. Leading the Wawasee tribe were Sam Ludwig and Ron Bauman as they both scored a 39.

Wawasee chalked up 741 i points to Columbia City’s 41 and New Wawasee won first in 10 out of 12 events. Willa Detwiler won the 80 yard hurdles in 13.5 and Roz Long took second. Baseball team drops in opener By SANDY GERENCSER The Warrior baseball team lost its first game of the season to West Noble last night, 5-3, on the WawaSee diamond. Bob Heady is the coach of the varsity baseball team. The first inning contained all of the Warrior scoring. Brian McKay hit a double and was batted in for a run. Erique Paradis got a single.
