il GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY — Mr. and Mrs. Charles G. Beck of r 1 Syracuse will observe their 58th wedding anniversary with an open house for friends and relatives on Sunday. April 211. from 3 to 5 p.m. at their Lake Lawn Land home. No special invitations have been sent and the couple asks that gifts be omitted. Mr. Beck and the former Wilma Himes of near Cromwell were united in marriage on April IS. 1*24 at Albion by Rev. George Conway of the Methodist church. They are the parents of two children. Caroline and Wilfred. Caroline is married to Harold Wilson of Millford and they have three daughter. Brenda of Cedar Grove. Mis. Dennis (Nancy) Newcomer. Milford, and Jane at home. They have one granddaughter. Kimberly Kay Newcomer. W ilfred is married to the former Mary Jo Bergen of New Castle, and they have two sons. Charles Brenton and Thomas Michael. They reside at Indianapolis.

Cardinal Learning Center Easter greetings were signed and mailed to sick members. The door prize was won by Mrs Elmer Rassi. Dessert and coffee were served to 10 members by Mrs. Treesh and Mrs. . Motts. The next meeting will be a salad bar at the home of Mrs. Lena Davidsen on May 1. Garden club hears reports and program Mrs. William Brammer was hostess to 18 members of the Syracuse-Wawasee Garden club for its April meeting, with Mrs. Marion Rohm assisting Mrs. Richard Bibler, Mrs. William Flaherty and Mrs. Richard Clingaman were welcomed as new members. Response to roll was by showing a decorated Easter egg made by each for an egg tree to be placed in the children's department of the Syracuse library. Reports were heard on Arbor Day plantings at Syracuse and on the bus trip in March to the flower and garden show at Chicago with 39 members and guests attending Mrs Allan Stackhouse and Mrs. James Lesh were in charge of the bird study for the month and chose sparrows and buntings District director Mrs. Ralph Clingaman explained aims and goals of the national council of state garden clubs, namely, memorial highway markers, flower show schools, civic improvement contests and people and their improvement projects.

Round Table Ladies hear Alphatime The Ladies of the Round Table of Syracuse met Monday night in the two kindergarten rooms of the Syracuse elementary’ school with 14 members in attendance. Mrs. Ross Cook, Mrs. Richard Ditmer and Mrs. Thomas Stiver were guests Following the regular business meeting conducted by president Mrs Paul Rush, the program was turned over to Mrs. Milton Brice, one of the local kindergarten teachers. Alphatime Mrs Brice explained the new pre-reading program. Alphatime, which is now in use in all the kindergartens of the corporation. To more explain the program, she used the inflatable huggables or letter people, records, film strips, books, picture cards and puzzles Miss Karel Hollingsworth, another kindergarten teacher at Syracuse, served refreshments from a table decorated in the Easter theme. Theta Sigmas hear local cancer report The Theta Sigma chapter of Psi lota Si sorority held its meeting last week at the home of Mrs. Roy Gillum of North Webster. Larry Giffith of Syracuse was guest speaker for the evening and explained the cancer drive for the area with April 15 as the kick-off date Mrs. Jerry Richardson will be hostess for the April 16 meeting to be held at Camelot Hall. North Webster, with Mrs. Stewart Walker as co-hostess Yellow Banks Hotel to open on Monday Mrs. Dorothy Hunziker has announced the Yellow Banks Hotel on Webster Lake will open for the season this coming Monday. April 15. - A new menu is being featured and the dining room and lounge will be open six nights a week with entertainment each night.

Mrs. Zook presents program on Korea for auxiliary members
Hie April meeting of American Legion Auxiliary 226 was held Tuesday evening at the Legion home. Twenty-five members and one guest were present. Mrs. Russell Ruch, president pro-tern, called the meeting to cede- in regular form, saluting the flag and repeating the preamble to the constitution. Special Program Rosemary Zook from Goshen, formerly from Milford, was special guest and presented her program of pictures and narration taken during the time she and her family spent in Korea She stated Korea is a small country and has a huge population, therefore, all areas possible for producing food are cultivated to the extreme. The way of life of the Koreans is much the same as their forefathers Life for them has not changed a great deal in the development of the world. However, the people seem happy and enjoy their celebrations in their country. To enhance her program Mrs. Zook wore a gown of gold and
Houseparents meet with auxiliary Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Hostetter, houseparents at Morton House, spoke Monday to the Bashor Home Auxiliary. They stated that one of the objectives for giving the six high school age boys more freedom and more responsibility is to better prepare them for the time when they are in homes of their own. The group decided to purchase lamps and a blender for Morton House and a blender for the kitchen at Arbogast Center. Hostesses at the center were the women of the Ligonier United Methodist church. Twenty women helped with a mailing following the meeting. Mrs. Ruch announced April 10th as the date of the next district meeting of the organization, which will be held at Remington. A discussion on socialized medicine was held and members were urged to write their Senators Birch Bayh and Vance Hartke and Congressman Earl Landgrebe stating their views on the subject. Discussion was held regarding the purchase of a new sweeper for the use of the unit. Mrs. Ralph Berkeypile and Mrs. Oliver Replogle were appointed to investigate and purchase the sweeper best suited to the needs of the unit. Mrs. Glennis Stump will be hostess to the Past Presidents Parley at her home Wednesday, April 17. All past presidents are urged to attend.

4-H Share-the-fun to be held April 20

This shew will be at the Winona Lake auditorium and will have a bit of fantasy about it as the theme is “Fairy Tales", This event begins at 7 p.m. and will find up to 20 acts, ranging By ROSALYN JONES The library has received the second commemorative plate in the series of four in celebration of the bicentennial. The Wednesday Afternoon club of Syracuse is presenting this lovely powder blue series of plates depicting scenes of important events in the formation of our country to the Syracuse public library. The second plate entitled “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" depicts Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson meeting to draft the Declaration of Independence. We extend oiir appreciation to the Wednesday Afternoon club for their thoughtfulness. Also to the Syracuse-Wawasee Garden club for the beautiful egg tree which is being enjoyed in the children’s department of the library. All the eggs, some glittery, some like fine porcelain, are real works of art. Greatly appreciated is the Garden club's thoughtfulness and fine talents. Leesburg Literary club meets in C. Smoker home The Leesburg Literary club met Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Charles Smoker. Nine members answered roll call. Mrs. Earl Robison gave the devotions for the meeting. Mrs. George Paton gave a report on the county federation meeting held at Mentone. After a short business meeting the hostess served refreshments.
