'Executive Action 7 opens at Pickwick Burt Lancaster, Oscar-winning International star, portrays one of the conspirators in a plot to assassinate President John Kennedy in the film “Executive Action,’’ opening tonight (Wednesday) at the Pickwick in Syracuse. Lancaster researched the evidence of the Warren Commission before accepting the starring role in the Edward Lewis Production released by National General Pictures, costarring the late Robert Ryan and Will Geer. “The assassination occurred some nine years before we made the fifth,” Lancaster explains, “and with the passage of time much of the material which I had read on the subject had become vague in my mind. I recall at the time of the Warren Commission’s investigation, the general feeling was that the Report of the Commission had not been satisfactory, it hadn’t gotten to the bottom of the subject. That it had been kind of a white wash. I suppose,” he continues “like the average American, I didn’t want to accept that because it would infer the acceptance of a philosophy in our country that was hard for us to swallow. As Americans we didn’t want to accept the fact that men in high office or men of importance in the country would snuff out the life of a man who was unquestionably one of the most popular President’s we’ve ever had and a man who’s major share of work still lay ahead of him.” When producer Edward Lewis brought Lancaster the script he found it to be a challenge different from any film he had faced. “I struggled with the idea as to whether I should do this kind of thing or not, since I was impelled to want to do it fa* reasons of being an actor and because it was a very fine, tightly and effectively written script.”
