This year Easter Sunday will fall on April 14. Since the very early days of the Christian church, this has been the great event of the year, commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the fulfillment of the promise of salvation for all people. Since ancient times, churches and altars have been decorated for the occasion; candles have been burned; and. in the medieval cathedrals of England, the Easter or paschal candles were often of huge dimensions. They were held m gigantic brass or silver candlesticks and reached a combined height of as much as 60 to 70 feet. This Easter, sunrise services, children hunting Easter eggs, families attending church together and the. sometimes frivolous, profusion of new “Easter bonnets” will be outward evidence of the 2.006-year continuity of the Christian celebration of Christ’s resurrection and spiritual reality. It is a time to reaffirm our faith in Him who rose to lead mankind in the ways of peace and brotherhood and fulfill the promise of eternal life. Holy week services will begin this coming Sunday night at the Milford Christian church for the community and will continue throughout the week. On Thursday each church will hold its own communion service. WE RECEIVED the following letter here this week and thought
it worth printing here since it’s from a former Milford resident — G. E. Fagan. Fagan is now a resident of Laguna Niguel, Calif. The letter follows: ”1 wish to congratulate Sandy Gerencser as an up and coming sports reporter for your fine paper. “However, since we Californians found out there is another team except UCLA why not let us know who is the Indiana high school champ. Do not end the game with the sectionals.” For Mr. Fagan’s information and for others who missed our item about Milford junior high school principal Marion Acton serving as referee in the state championship which was won by Fort Wayne Northrup over Jeffersonville, we are noting here the fact that Fort Wayne Northrup is the state champion. Northrup stopped top ranked Anderson in the semi-finals at Fort Wayne the week before the championship to win the right to play in the finals. THE MILFORD Senior Citizens will meet at the fire station on Sunday. April 7. for a carry-in dinner and program. As in the past they are inviting all senior citizens in the Milford area to their meeting. AT THE end erf five weeks of competition Sharon Gilbert of r 1 Syracuse (A MJ gal) and Joyce Halsey of Kimmell are tied with another pair at 1028 for scratch doubles of the Indiana Women’s state bowling tourney underway at Anderson. Sharon got her “annual” 20® pin for state competition also. Her team members think that is what she goes for. Sarah Brumbaugh, wife of Jim. r 1 Milford, bowled a 509 scratch in singles play the same day. Sarah bowls for Augsburger’s Food Palace at Milford. Last week seemed to be streaking week and Johnny Carson and the Tonight Show and Bob Sievers of WOWO were not to be out done. While males streaked through their respective studios a lady streaker was seen by one of the teams who attended the state women’s bowling competition.

THE ANNUAL Easter coloring contest appears elsewhere in this issue of The Mail-Journal.
