Named barber of the month in California
Samuel E. Searfoss. formerly of Syracuse and son of the late Samuel P. and Erma Searfoss of Syracuse, ■ has been named barber of the month in California and made the front page of Hair Unlimited, Barber Gazette at Los Angeles. Sam owns a very exclusive styling salon in the Arcade building in Arcadia, and accepts appointments only. Late Start He started his barberhairstyling career at the age of 42 and is an active promoter of advancing the barber profession. Sam was instrumental in organizing and working in the two successful holiday hair-/ styling shows and a key man ih the last state show and convention in the barbering association. His salon is a one-man sei up and his styling area is separate from the waiting room. When Sam first came out of barbering school, after giving up work in the construction field, he went to work in a seven chair barbershop and as an apprentice was given second chair. He also took appointments only in the shop. Before moving to Arcadia, he owned a shop in Pasadena for 10

years. Attends Shows At the age of 60 now, Sam attends every styling show and seminar given and attends advanced classes in his field as each comes along. Sam married the former Wilma Weybright of the Milford area some 39 years ago and they have one son. Steve, and four grandchildren. Wilma will be retiring from Sears in a year or so and enthusiastically joins him in helping with show and seminars. Milford driver cited after accident Vehicles driven by Ron K. Vanover, 34, Milford, and Donnie R. Nipper. 23. 109 East Madison St.. Goshen, collided Saturday at 4:09 p.m. on the Elkhart road west of Greene road in Goshen. Damage was set at S2OO to the 1968 GMC truck driven by Vanover and the 1969 Mercury driven by Nipper. Ptl. D. R. Thornburg investigated and cited Vanover for unsafe movement from lane to lane. Tuesday on the Pickwick Road at the east Kale Island exit which resulted in sending one passenger to the Goshen hospital for treatment. Suffering a head gash was Mrs. Alvin Lan tier, r 5 Goshen, who was riding in a 1970 Ford Galaxie driven by her husband headed east. Coming around the curved road was Sherman Schwartz, 21, r 1 Cromwell, driving a 1972 Cutlass Olds, riding alone. Schwartz was not able to negotiate the curve and struck the Lantzer car on the wrong side of the road. Ttie Lantzer vehicle was near a stop at the time of impact. The Syracuse first aid unit arrived to assist in getting Mrs. Lantzer to the hospital. State police investigated reporting extensive damage to both vehicles.
Smoke reported at Hickory, no fire found
Members of the Milford volunteer fire department were called shortly after midnight last night to investigate smoke in the uptown business block. The alarm was turned in when 10 or 12 persons in the Turf Bar were bothered by smoke which seemed to be filtering from next ZIMMER RESIGNS — Kosciusko county assessor Carl T. Zimmer. 68. Warsaw, has submitted his resignation to county commissioners. It is effective at the end of the month. Zimmer pointed out in his resignation he has reached the time to retire, having served for 11 years and four months. Zimmer has been in poor health recently. The commissioners, acting upon Zimmer's request, appointed his first deputy Avis B. Gunter as his successor. No fire was found. $1,050 damages in accident this morning in Milford Milford marshal Don Drake reported $1,050 in damages when two cal’s collided on Fourth street in Millard this morning (Wednesday) at 8:25. The accident occurred about 60 feet of state road 15 when Sue A. Moneyheffer, 20, backed her 1971 Buick two-door from the front lawn of parents home and was struck by a 1968 Rambler driven west on Fourth street by Echo L. Tusing. 69, also of Milford. Mrs. Tusing complained of pains in her stomach where the steering wheel struck her. No other injuries were reported. The front end of Mrs. Tusing’s Rambler was damaged to an estimated S7OO.
