Rev. Young led in prayer after which the Johnston children sang two special songs as Mischelle .accompanied with the guitar. Sacks of popcorn were given each person while the group viewed pictures of the recent trip of Mr. and Mrs. Max Shively. The Shively’s eldest son Dennis, who is in Japan, entertained his parents for 12 days touring several places of interest in Japan. JP Jim Brooks gives report for March . Van Buren township justice of the peace Jim Brooks has issued the following report for the month of March: Arnold Garza, Milford, appeared on March 4 on a charge of assault and battery. He paid a total fine and cost of $49. Steven L. Ketchan, 323 Lee Ave., Elkhart, and Arnold Garza, Milford, both appeared before Brooks on March 8 and were each fined S2B for false registration. Also appearing on March 8 was Genaro J. Esquivel, box 411 Milford, who paid a total fine and cost of $52 for driving while suspended. Arnold Garza, Milford, and Donna Wineland, Milford, appeared before the justice of the peace on March 11. Each was charged with two counts of assault and battery. Each paid S9B in fines and court costs. Bruce S. Oesch, r 1 Millersburg, appeared on March 15 and was assessed S2B for expired vehicle safety inspection sticker. Total fines and costs for the month were $3Bl. Ten years ago lots of us dreamed of earning the salary we can't get along on today.

Herman Millers attend funeral Mr. and Mrs. Herman Miller of Milford attended the funeral of Mrs. Miller’s aunt, Mrs. Faye Duff, 79, Lafayette, at Lafayette at 1 p.m. on March 30. Burial was in the Delphi Masonic cemetery. Survivors were a daughter Mrs. Joe Henderson, Delphi; a son, Robert Duff, Lafayette; three grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren. The Millers also visited Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wise at their country home north of Delphi before returning to Milford in the evening. Legion auxiliary holds meeting American Legion Auxiliary unit 223 at Syracuse met in regular meeting last week and all old and new business was taken care of for the month. It was announced the conference meeting for district two will be at Remington on April 10, 1974. “ False alarm at Liberty Syracuse volunteer firemen responded to an alarm at Liberty Homes at the’ south edge of Syracuse at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. There was no fire and the alarm sounded due to a malfunction of the system which was being checked Tuesday forenoon.

Friday accidents are investigated Two auto accidents were investigated Friday by Syracuse police, however, no injuries were reported in either mishap. One accident was at 4:03 p.m. at Pearl and Huntington streets as Elizabeth Maggart, 59, 519 N. Huntington, Syracuse, sustained slls damage to her 1968 Ford when she misjudged distance in heavy traffic and her northbound auto struck a parked vehicle on Huntington street. Owner of the other vehicle was Dan Sicks, 38, Syracuse, with an estimated S9O damage. Approximately S4OO damage was listed to a 1971 vehicle driven by Richard Cain, Jr., 28, Nappanee as the driver lost control on a snow covered roadway. CR 530 E., at 10:41 p.m. and hit a pole and 200 foot of farm fence in Hunnicutt Park vicinity. Damage to the fence was not listed. Visits Buchers at Waubee Lake home Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Bucher of Waubee Lake near Milford hosted a dinner on Friday, March 29, for Rev. and; Mrs. Q. J. Everest of South Bend. Rev. Everest is paster for “Your Worship Hour”, a radio program in the South Bend area.

1 YEAR AGO, APRIL 4,1973 Attorney Robert Reed was in attendance at the Tuesday pight town board of trustees meeting to explain the contract with Kinder Realty for hook-on of water anti service lines in the Kinder additions. Groundbreaking was held late last week for the new cocktail lounge to be known as Merrill’s Cocktail Lounge, on Pickwick Road in Wawasee Village. Paul Van Dyke is being sponsored by the Syracuse-Wawasee Rotary club for the 1973 National Explorer President’s Congress at Washington. D. C., in April. An application has been filed with the department of financial institutions at Indianapolis for permission for the State Bank of Syracuse to establish a second branch bank to be located at the junction of state road 8 and stale road alternate 13, on the east side of Lake Wawasee. 5 YEARS AGO, APRIL 2,1969 Lance corporal Max Irvin Baer, graduate of Syracuse high school, was killed March 20 in action near the Cambodian border. The Chevrolet agency at Syracuse has changed ownership with W. L. (BUI) Cutter purchasing the interest of Gordon (Short) McCormick. Wawasee Heights Baptist church will lay the cornerstone on Easter Sunday for its new church building near Syracuse. Miss Nancy Kinder and Steven Runge were married Friday evening at Saint Andrew’s United Methodist church and will be residing at Warren House apartments at West Lafayette. 10 YEARS AGO, APRIL 2,1964 An ice vending company lias been established on Lake Wawasee in quarters formerly occupied by Levemier car polish company and is to go into production this week under direction of Robert Graham. Sandra Irene Plymale and Mark Arthur Wagner recipients of scholarships totaling $3,000 which were presented in the high school gym at Syracuse Thursday. Airman third class Terry E. Smith has completed his tlnird level in OJT schooling at his station in Alaska. 20 YEARS AGO, APRIL 2,1954 Robert T. Searfoss, son of Mr. ° and Mrs. Robert Searfoss, is reported recovering satisfactorily from injuries sustained last Thursday when he ran into the path of an auto driven by Fred Nolan of Syracuse, in uptown Syracuse. Eugene Medlen, manager of the Pickwick Theatre, has announced material and supplies have been received for installation of a new cinemascope in the local theatre with the first film to be “The Robe.” 45 YEARS AGO, APRIL 4.1929 Leo Druckamiller and Miss Alice Grace Heyde of Nappanee were united in marriage Wednesday, March 27, by Rev. Thomas E. George at Goshen. Meredith Mench celebrated her 10th birthday anniversary on March 30 by entertaining a few friends at a party in her home. The following people of Garrett, who are admirers of Wawasee Lake, took an Easter Sunday plunge into its depths near the Stephen Freeman cottage: Wayne Kemp, Mabie Hinkle, Thias Hinkle, Gretchen Hamilton and Jeanne Hamilton. The firm of McClintic, Colwell and Gordy was awarded the contract Wednesday by the county commissioners with a bid of $48,865.18 to build a concrete roadway for Bishop raid in Turkey Creek township. LAKELAND LOCAL Mr. and Mrs. Richard Warner of Middleburg, Fla., arrived at the Jessie Hughes home S unday evening, along with Mrs. Lillie Warner and Mrs. Ruth Harris of Syracuse who had wintered at Middleburg. The Warnei's will remain here for a two week visit.
