Plans announced for fair MISHAWAKA — Students from grades four to 12 are gearing up for the annual northern Indiana regional science and engineering fair to be held this spring at Bethel college. Dr. Kenneth L. Esau, fair director, said that the intermediate level exhibits will be shown in Bethel's Goodman auditorium on April 18. while junior and senior levels will be on display April 20. Intermediate students are those in the fourth, fifth and sixth 1 grades, while the junior level is grades seven and eight. To be eligible, students must be enrolled in a public, private or parochial school in Elkhart. Fulton, Kosciusko, Marshall, Miami. Huntington. Saint Joseph or Wabash counties. Dr Esau although local science fairs in individual schools may be utilized as a screening device for entrants into the regional fair, this is not necessary. Students may enter the regional fair directly, after recommendation by a competent local school instructor Deadline Deadline for submitting entry blanks to the fair director is April 6, according to Dr. Esau. All students taking part in the regional fair will receive a certificate of merit, and first, second or third place ribbons will also be awarded to qualified entries. Dr Esau said that Dr. James Kroon, chief judge, is in the process of selecting qualified judges from regional industry, schools and communities at large. A total of 11 categories in each of the three levels is available for selection by the entrants in the fair. The divisions are botany, chemistry, earth and space sciences, ecology and conservation, mathematics and computers, medicine and health, microbiology, physics, social sciences and behavior and zoology. Awards . The top awards at the senior level, will be two all-expense paid trips and the right to enter the International Science and Engineering Fair at Notre Dame university. South Bend. There will be numerous special awards at each of the levels. Professor Ronald Bennett, facilities coordinator for the fair, said that the various sponsors of the special awards will be announced later. Entry blanks for the fair will be available by request from Dr. Esau at Bethel after March 15. Kindergarten round-up Tuesday at Milford
The annual kindergarten round-up will be held Tuesday. April 9, at 7 p.m at the Milford elementary school. Teachers, the school nurse and the principal will be giving instructions concerning the kindergarten program for the fall semester starting in September 1974.
Dates set for kindergarten pre-enrollement at West Noble
Dates and procedures for kindergarten pre-enrollment have been set for the W’est Noble schools It is extremely important that your child be enrolled this spring to assure smaller class sizes and to determine supplies and books that will be needed for the coming school year. A child must be five years of age on or before September 1 to be eligible for the 1974-75 school year. It is necessary to bring the birth certificate with you when you come to enroll each child. A hearing and vision check will be given each enrollee by school nurse Mrs. John Loveless to find out if there is a problem in these areas. A visit with Mrs. Louise Hague and Mrs. Beverly Sponhauer will help determine language and communication growth and will help decide readiness of the child for kindergarten and school. GREENVILLE, S. C. - Miss Da Denise Cooper and Ted Kieth Gillem of Syracuse, and Miss Drena Sharon Poole of Highland participated in three performances of Verdi’s grand opera ‘‘Aida’’ at Bob Jones university, Greenville, S. C., March 26. 28 and 30.
Miss Cooper, a junior music education major at BJU, is the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Dean Cooper of Syracuse. A sophomore English education major at BJU. Mr. Gillem is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon A. Gillem of 125 West Brooklyn street. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Grover Poole of 9204 Johnston avenue. Miss Poole is a junior at BJU majoring in clarinet.
Five guest artists from the Metropolitan and other leading opera companies sang the major roles. These included Mirna Lacambra as Aida, Morley Meredith as Amonasro. Marvellee Cariaga as Amneris, Richard Kness as Radames, and Steven Williams as Ramphis University students and faculty sang minor roles and chorus parts as well as performed in the orchestra. The University Opera Association presents at least one major opera each year and provides an exceUent opportunity for students to participate in the greatest operas ever written and with the best-known professional singers of our day. Bob Jones university, known as the “World’s Most Unusual University,” is a liberal arts, coeducational, Christian institution. Each year the university matriculates more than 5,000 students who come from every state in the Union and about 40 foreign countries and territories.

DIANE WUTHRICH [ CINDY SHEETS Two WHS seniors place in state DECA competition Diane Wuthrich and Cindy Sheets, Wawasee high school seniors, recently competed in the state distributive education contest at French Lack. Cindy placed third in “girl student of the year” which is over all record, interview and , written manual. Diane placed fourth in “window display” which includes a written test and judging window display. Steve Yoder and Mark Sorensen also attended the twoday conference. They served as voting delegates for the Wawasee club.
