The first state tournament was held in 1911 with Crawfordsville defeating Lebanon 24-17. Lebanon seemed to be the powerhouse of early Indiana basketball as the school won championships in 1912, 1917 and 1918 The school was also runnerup in 1943, losing to Fort Wayne Central in a close 45-40 battle. Muncie and Muncie Central have a total of five victories between them with Muncie being the state champs in 1928 and 1931 and Muncie Central winning the crown in 1951-52 and 1963.
