The wedding of Miss Yvonne Spurling and Eric Eugene Coburn took place at 7 o’clock on the evening of Saturday. Feb 2. in the Saint Arufrew's United Methodist church The double nng ceremony was performed by Rev Marvin W. Jones, pastor of the church, in the presence of 120 guests Parents of the couple are Mr and Mrs Robert Spurling of r 1 Syracuse and Mr and Mrs Billy G Cobum of 420 Dolan drive. Syracuse The church was decorated with bouquets of mums and carnations in planters on both sides of the steps to the altar with candelabra and planters of mums and carnations on the altar I Norma Longnecker played, “We’ve only just Begun In Tiered Gown Given tn marriage by her father the bride chose a tiered gown in acetate and nylon Nottingham lace with a bodice of satin faced rayon organza The gown featured a detachable Watteau chapel tram, yoke and fitted sleeves with lace ruffled edge Her cap of nylon Notbngham lace was faced with satin and held her floor-length veil. She carried a bouquet of baby's breath with white roses and carnations sprayed lavender Miss April Hapner of Syracuse served as maid of honor She wore a gown of satin with an empire waist and full sleeves The gown had a high neck with ihe bodice being made of satin and lace in purple The skirt and sler-es were in lavender. Her hat had a purple ribbon which matct-d. Brice has been admitted “with distinction” by the admissions staff, with the authority issued by the admissions committee, for the 197475 fall semester at Indiana Central college Ann is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Brice, 601 South Lake street, Syracuse. She is a senior at Wawasee high school where she is a member of the National Honor Society and numerous other activities. Garden club meets in Clingaman home The Syracuse-Wawasee Garden club met last week in the home of Mrs Ralph Clingaman with Mrs George Kleopfer as cohostess. Guests were Mrs Richard Bibler, Mrs. William Flagherty and Mrs Richard Gingaman New officers to serve in 1974 are: President — Mrs. Harry Appenzeller Vice president — Mrs. Gingaman Secretary — Mrs. R. C. Tytler Treasurer — Mrs. Peter Blue Response to roll call was "What House Plant Likes Me." During the lengthy business meeting, it was voted to give a donation to the Blue Star Memorial, purpose of which is to establish a living memorial in the armed forces. Area residents are reminded to look for these memorials along the highways Also, a donation to the World Gardening fund was given and to the state scholarship fund of the Gardens of Indiana. Inc. Gub members also agreed to buy feed for the ducks in the channel at Syracuse, urging others to do likewise As plans stand to date, a standard flower show at Wawasee high school is planned for August 1 and 2. with Mrs Appenzeller as chairman, and will be open to the public. Mrs Tytler will be chairman of the Christmas Bell Walk planned again this year The club will sponsor a bus trip to the flower show in Chicago the last of March and will be open to friends as well as club members The library arrangement entitled “In the Dead erf Winter” was displayed and will be taken to the Syracuse library by Mrs. Gingaman. the arranger. Lesson Mrs Clingaman presented the lesson on the upside down bird, the Nut Hatch. The club will be studying a different bird at each meeting. Mrs Harmon Harper gave the program on "Pot Plants. Take to the Air" informing members on how to prepare pots for hanging and various containers to be used for hanging of most potted plants. Refreshments of cherry cheesecake, nuts and coffee were served by the hostesses The next meeting will be at the Milford home of Mrs Gale Chapman K FALL WEDDING — Mr. and Mrs. Lynn E. A June 29 wedding date has been set. Mrs. Harlan Beer entertains Silver Thimble club The Silver Thimble club of Milford met in the home of Mrs Harlan Beer on Tuesday. Feb. 5. with Mrs. Glen Price. Sr., serving as co-hostess. Mrs. Bill Troup, president, called the meeting to order welcoming 15 members and three guests. During the business meeting officers’ and committee reports were given and thank you notes were read. "Happy Birthday" and “Happy Anniversary” were sung to those who were celebrating during the month. Devotions were given by Mrs. Robert Beer who read verses from the Bible giving the ingredients of love. The hymn “The Love of God” was sung. The project for the meeting was the members donating items to be used in teaching special education classes in Goshen where club member Mrs Arthur Haab is a teacher Cherry desserts, nuts, fudge, tea and coffee were served Mrs. Troup received the door prize. Mrs. Don Davidsen presents program to Sorosis club
The Sorosis club of Milford met in the home erf Mrs. Norman Lovell on Monday evening, Feb. 4. Mrs. Donald Davidsen of Warsaw, a former resident of this area, introduced five foreign exchange students from the Warsaw area who are living in this country for a year as part of the Youth for Understanding program. These young people are attending Warsaw high school and had many interesting things to tell the club about their hometowns, their families and the differences and similarities between their lands and the USA. Those participating in the program were Lena Ferm beck, Sweden; Susi W’yss. Switzerland; Alrey Vistro, the Phillipine Islands; Driton Nushi. Yugoslavia; and Max von Cube, Germany. Mr. von Cube is a house guest of the Davidsens for this school year. During the business meeting the president. Mrs. Paul RETURN FROM WESTERN VACATION Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Pilcher of Syracuse returned home Thursday from a three and a half week western vacation. They visited Mrs. Pilcher’s mother and sisters at Rocky Ford, Colo.; their daughter Mrs. Richard Chapman, Sgt. Chapman and son at Kirtland air force base. .Albuquerque. N. the meeting in spite of the snow storm which hit the area earlier in the day. Mr. and Mrs. D. G. Seely presided in the east. The chapter room was decorated in shades of red and other items appropriate to Valentine’s Day. Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Myers, Mrs. C. S. Myers. Mrs. Gladys Coy, Mrs. John B. Augsburger and Mrs. Dick Casto served refreshments at the close of the meeting in keeping with the Valentine theme. Decorations on the tables in the dining room also followed the Valentine theme.
Brembeck asked all members to fill out application blanks for their choice of Milford’s “Citizen of the Year” award. At the close of the evening Mrs. Lovell served cherry cheesecake, coffee and tea to her guests. The next meeting will be March 4 in the home of Mrs. Jake Tusing at Secrist Lake. Vicki will be a 1974 graduate of Wawasee high school. Her fiance is a 1969 graduate of West Noble high school and is employed at Sudlow’s Pier shop in Syracuse. A July wedding is being planned.
