In the independent basketball tourney played at Bourbon last week the Milford Independents were defeated in the semi final game by Rochester. Several from here attended the auto show in South Bend last week. Mr. and Mrs. Perry Hoover visited Mrs. Edmund Auer and family of Goshen Saturday. Warsaw boy injured in pedestrian accident Robert L. Shelton, 13,1426 East Jefferson St., Warsaw, was injured in a car-pedestrian accident Thursday on East Center street in Warsaw at 7:55 p.m. The auto which struck the Shelton boy was driven by Pete A. Miniear, 33, r 1 Leesburg. Patrolman Ted Dobbins investigated. The Shelton boy received a laceration above the eye and possible internal injuries and is reported in fair condition at the Murphy Medical Center in Warsaw in room 204. Shelton was crossing from the south to the north side of Center street and reported he did not see the Miniear auto before starting to cross the street.

Following is a list of students from the Milford junior high school who participated in the NISBOVA contest at Bishop Lures in Fort Wayne on January 26. The students’ names, event and award are given: First place — String quartet — Kathy Beer, Phillip Beer, Jeff Peterson and Lorene Spearman; piano solos — Jamie White, Jo Lene White, Kathie Kline, Don Schrock, Stephanie Baumgartner, Carl Bice, Tilly Stubbo and Kathy Bice; vocal solo — Lanita Stutzman Second place — Vocal solo — Renee Wolf and Sherry Young; piano solos — Mischelle Johnston, Mark Kline, Lynette Miller and Julia Rhodes. The following students participated at Culver on February 2: First place — Flute solo — Milford woman in Goshen crash Christa D. Templin, 35, r 1 Milford, was involved in single vehicle crash Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. on Indiana 15, two and a quarter miles south of Goshen. Christa reported she was southbound on the highway when a vehicle ahead of her slowed down. She braked her auto which then crossed the centerline, jumped a guard rail and plunged down a 30 foot embankment landing on its wheels. Elkhart county sheriff’s Ptl. Duane Roberts investigated the accident and set damage at $225 to the 1968 Chevrolet. She complained of head and knee pains following the accident but declined medical treatment.

Mrs. Zurcher presents program Mrs. Harold LeCount was hostess Monday night for the Senior Mothers club at Syracuse with Mrs. Rebecca Kitson and Mrs. Noble Blocker assisting. Fifteen members and one guest responded to roll call, and each received a Valentine made by Mrs. John Walker, president. Mrs. Blocker presided in the absence of the president. Program for the evening was presented by Mrs. Vernon Zurcher entitled, “Pride in our Country.” The next club meeting will be on March 18. Vehicles collide on Boston street No injuries were sustained in a two-vehicle mishap on Boston C street in Syracuse at 2:20 J Thursday afternoon, however, damage was estimated at SBOO. Involved in the accident were a 1970 Chevrolet truck driven by Samuel Swedarsky, 67, 224 E. Boston, Syracuse, and a 1970 Mercury operated by Ralph Hemandz, 18, of Pinecrest Trailer court west of Syracuse’ The collision occurred as Hemandz attempted to pass the westbound truck traveling at 20 mile an hour, and Swedarsky started a left turn into his drive at the same time. Syracuse, Warsaw Lions join Milford club for trip to Spain

Members of the Syracuse and Warsaw Lions clubs attended the Milford Lions meeting Monday, Feb. 4, and saw a slide presentation presented by Rev. Kenneth Lininger of North Webster. Rev. Lininger told about a trip he had made to Spain last August. Maurice Beer not candidate for trustee Maurice Beer of r 2 Milford told The Mail-Journal this week he will not be a candidate for Van Buren township trustee this year. Beer is currently serving as trustee, having taken the office following the death of John Davidsen some three years ago. Beer had previously served on the advisory board for 17 years. North Webster, has graduated from the U. S. Air Force senior noncommissioned officer academy at Gunter AFB. Ala. , During the nine-week course, sergeant Payne received advanced study in management techniques, behavioral science and contemporary issues which will aid him in fulfilling positions of greater responsibility. The academy school is the highest school in the professional military education system for noncommissioned officers. Sergeant Payne has returned Lowry AFB, Colo., where he is a special electronic technician with a unit of the air training command. Elkhart driver charged after mishap, A parted auto belonging to Robert Teeple, Leesburg, was struck by an auto operated by Edw'rd Scroggins, Jr., 42, Elkhart, Sunday at 3:15 a.m. The Teeple auto was parked along the road, two and one-half miles north of Warsaw, when the incident occurred. County police Sgt. Richard Mikel- reported the Scroggins auto was northbound on the state road when it went out of control and struck the Teeple auto and a light pole. Following the accident Scroggins was booked at the county jail for driving under the influence of alcohol and public intoxication. Damage was listed at S2OO to the Teeple vehicle, SBSO to the Scroggins auto and $1,200 to the NIPSCo pole. Michael K.
