Plymouth Pilgrims clip Wawasee Warriors 66-61
By SANDY GERENCSER A late rally by the Pilgrims proved successful last Friday night against the Warriors. Wawasee had them down by one at the end of the third quarter and led most of the fourth, but the Pilgrims tore the game open in the final minutes to win. 66-61 Plymouth got the jump onithe Warriors in the first quarterted by the scoring, of senior Marc Hayden, who netted 12 points, they had the lead at the end of the quarter. 23-18 The Warriors fought back in the second stanza. They kept gaining on the Pilgrims and with less than 30 seconds left in the half. Tad Chamberlin gunned in a basket to tie the score. 36-36. A foul shot by Greg Fidler sent the team to the locker room with the lead. 37-36 The third quarter found the lead jumping between the two fine teams four times. The Warriors managed to retain their one point lead at the end of the quarter. 49-48. The fourth period was the final chapter of a sad story for Bob Heady's Wamlors. They again found themselves in foul trouble. .All told, they had 13 fouls in the second half while Plymouth only had three About halfway through the quarter, a technical was called against Bry ant Chipman of Plymouth; however, the shot was missed by Wawasee. With 3:30 left in the game, the Warriors lost Jim Stout to fouls. In the remaining minutes the Pilgrims took the lead and just couldn't be caight. Wawasee had four double figure men Tad Chamberlin, Dave Hamilton and Jim Stout all had 14 points. Dave Madrick banged in 10 points High scorers for Plymouth were Kerry Weidner and Larry Greenlee Each scored 18 points Marc Hayden was next with 16. Rick McKibben 12 and Tom Kroh six to lead the Jackets to the 41 to 29 win. Jim Willits kept the Nappanee team from moving the ball with an outstanding game on defense. Dave Stoffel led the Syracuse seventh graders with nine points and half his team’s rebounds Kevin Smallwood and Bob Long added eight and six points, respectively, to the attack for the 31 to 19 win. At the end of the first period. Wawasee led 10-5. The Warriors really stalked the right trail in the second quarter; they led 25-11 at the half. Bremen just couldn't seem to hit the basket; they could onlymuster four points in the third quarter Wawasee led Bremen at the end of the period by 22 points, 37-15. The Lions really tried to come back in the fourth quarter, but their rally was too late. The Warriors topped Bremen, 48-29. Gary Dean led the scoring attack with 11 points Chad Singrey and Ralph Reiff followed closely with 10 pants apiece. The remainder of the scoring was as follows: Steve Kroh with six. Vince Rhodes, five. Paul Miller, four and Del Acton, two. Their next game will be with East Noble on January 18 at Wawasee at 6:45

Warriors dominate; skin Lions 65-48
By SANDY GERENCSER The Wawasee Warriors, led by coach Bob Heady, traveled to Bremen Saturday night to beat the Lions. 65-48. The win has nowmade their record 8-4. Wawasee completely dominated the Lions. Greg Fidler scored the first two baskets to put the W’arriors on the board first. They ran up eight points before Bremen could even score. W’awasee led at the end of the first quarter. 19-6. The lions started to roar in the second quarter. They scored 22 points but the scoring w«as coming rather late. With two
Warriorette swimmers smoke Washington 87-30
By SANDY GERENCSER The Wawasee girls’ swim team won their opener against South Bend Washington last Wednesday. 87-30. The girls set eight new records. They won 12 of 14 events. The 50 breast stroke was won by Dyanne Tracy in 42.3. Dianne Deck won the 50 freestyle in a time of 35.0. Marlys Staley took the 50 butterfly with 36.6. KathyCarlin dove for 135.80 points to win the diving competition. Jane Simpson swam 1:25.8 to capture the 100 butterfly. Lisa Bosstick won the 100 freestyle in 1:14.7. Teresa Ummel won the 400 freestyle in 6:42.4;’Julee Staleyset a record in the 400 with 5:39.8, but swam in exhibition. Doretta Grisamer took the 100 backstroke in 1:34.1; Jennifer Longenecker
Syracuse and North Webster split basketball action
Last Thursday the Syracuse seventh and eighth grade basketball teams traveled to North Webster and split victories with the Trojans. North Webster edged Syracuse in the seventh grade, game but the Jackets chopped them down in the eighth grade The Trojans started well in the eighth grade game and led 10-9 after the first quarter. KennyPatton and Rick McKibbdU controlled the backboards for Syracuse in the second quarter to give the Jackets the lead. Bryan Smith made five of eight shots in the third quarter to put the game out of Websters reach. Trobaugh scored 12 points for Webster to make the fihal score 42-21. This brings the Syracuse record to six wins and two losses. In the seventh grade game Warriorettes scalp Redskins By SANDY GERENCSER The Warriorette basketball team, coached by Cynthia Peterson, defeated Goshen Monday night, 54-41. They jumped out front in the first quarter to lead at its close. 18-7. The Redskins started to fight back, but Wawasee led at the half, 30-20, Goshen continued their battle in the second half, but were down 40-32 at the end of the third period. The Warriorettes contained them in the final quarter to win. 54-41. Colleen Beer led the scoring drive with 20 points Barb Brouwer followed with 10. The leading rebounder was Tammi Schumn with 11. Their next game is at Elkhart Central tonight (Wednesday) at 6:30. They were Julee Staley in.the 200 freestyle with 2:29.5, Joy Becker in the 200 individual medley with 2:56.4. and Jennifer Longenecker in the 50 backstroke in 35.7.
