This is his very first New Year. He’s celebrating it in his own talented fashion, just being cute. Last year thousands of boys and girls were arrested. They had all been cute—once! But did they have the priceless example of active Christian parents? Were they given moral and spiritual training in the Church? Did they grow up in a Christian atmosphere? This young fellow can’t be absolutely sure that the New Year is worth celebrating. His future is in the hands of his parents. But he’s smiling because of his confidence in them. During this New Year their faith God, and the sincerity of their relationship with the Church will begin to determine just what their son is going to be when he stops being cute. Heart screening program for children The heart screening program fa all foirth grade students in Kosciusko county will be held starting January 7. Mrs. Robert Burner is chairman. The incidence of heart problem in school children, approximately 10 cases per 1,000 children, underlines the need and importance of mass heart screening program in our schools. A major objective of such a program is to identify previously undetected cases of heart disease. Other objectives are to locate children that have had heart disease and have strayed fropi appropriate medical care and to identify children that were falsely diagnosed as having heart disease. In order to fulfill these objectives, a co-ordinated community effort is needed. This is a statewide program and this year 14,500 students will be tested. The Indiana Heart association provides six machines to the local chapters to do the testing. Members of local sororities will provide the man power. Chairman for each of the sororities are: Lamda Chi Omega — Mrs. Ron Drudge; Beta Sigma Phi — Mrs. Wayne Sebo; Psi lota Si — Mrs. Robert Burner; Delta Theta Tau — Mrs. David Essig; Tri Kappa — Mrs. Geoffrey Cross. Permission forms have already been sent to parents of all fourth graders. A training session for nurses and volunteers will be held at 9 a.m., January 4, at the REMC building. The actual testing will begin in the schools January 7 and should take about three weeks to complete. thoughts From The Living Bible After another forty days, Noah .opened a porthole and released a raven that flew back and forth until the earth was dry. Meanwhile he sent out a dove to see if it could find dry ground, but the dove found no place to light, and returned to Noah, for the water was still too high. So Noah held out his hand and drew the dove back into the boat. Seven days later Noah released the dove again, and this time, towards evening, the bird returned to him with an olive leaf in her beak. So Noah knew that the water was almost gone. Genesis 8:6-Jl Religious Heritage of America LAKELAND LOCAL Mr. and Mrs. Charles J. Teeple and Roy of r 2 Milford entertained on Sunday at a preChristmas dinner for Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Bushong and Mr. and Mrs. D. G. Seely, all of the Milford area.
