Warriors scalp Raiders 55-46
By SANDY GERENCSER Bob Heady’s Warriors traveled to Northridge Friday night to get another big win. They have now made their record 6-1. The Warriors started out kind of slow. In the first quarter they could only muster 10 points, but that was all the Raiders could get. The game appeared to be a close one with Wawasee and Northridge running neck and neck in the second quarter. As the final seconds of the half were ticking away, the Warriors were down by one point. Then Dave Hamilton of Wawasee put up a shot that had Warrior fans on the edge of their seats. The shot was up and rolled around and around the rim and suddenly dropped through. The Warriors left the first half leading, 26-25. The Warriors may have started out slow, but they got the ball rolling in the third quarter. They racked up 15 points to lead at the end of the quarter, 41-36. They kept rolling in the fourth period. They continued to pick up points. The Warriors got an 11 point lead when Tad Chamberlin got a quick steal and made it good for two. With about a minute and a half left, the clock went berserk; it just wouldn’t Stop. As it ticked away, Warrior fans jokingly “counted down to

JV falls to Raiders 40-36 By SANDY GERENCSER Jerry Lambert’s junior varsity squad just couldn’t get their momentum going enough to overcome the raiders. Northridge led Wawasee at the end of the first quarter 10-8. The Warriors got hustling in the second quarter to tie them 25-25 at the half. The Warriors tried to overtake the Raiders, but could only come to within two points at the end of the third period, 34-32. The final quarter was a bad one for both teams. It seemed like someone put a lid on the Wawasee basket, because they didn’t score until late in the quarter. Northridge didn’t score much sooner. The Warriors squeezed out four points, but the Raiders got six points to defeat Wawasee, 40-36. High sewer for the Warriors was Ralph Reiff with nine points. Gary Dean and Steve Troup both followed closely with eight points apiece. The JV team will play in a fourway tourney at Whitko on December 27. Larry Allen, who has been out of the past few games due to a serious infection in his leg, hopes to be back for the tourney.

INDIANA OVER SOUTH CAROLINA BY 13 and oh the improvement since the Notre Dame loss but then one had to expect the team to take a while to get going what with the freshman at center even if he is 6 ft. 11 and Quinn Buckner just fresh out of football, and then the fact there is not a senior on the squad leaves us with a senior leadership to be developed. It appears we are doing it but it is a question whether or not we can get through the Far West Classic without a loss—even if we have the talent. The intensity they are beginning to show and the general all around improvement leads us to believe we are about to jell into a fine ball club. Benson has really begun to come around. He is still the key and it was his fine boardwork in the second half that put the git in the gitter and then the general games of some of the others took hold. We finally hit some free throws after being a 53 per cent team at the foul line and 3 for 9 we hit 16 of 17 and again got some confidence here where we needed it. Quinn Buckner played the first half and got only one foul and we had but one turnover the first 7 minutes — this is where it counts. Buckner scored big and was his great self on defense as he stole the ball and fouled up the South Carolina offensive patterns plus good rebounding. He hit some from out and I have always wondered about this part of his game. Football is behind him and he is again the nation’s great young guard. Abernathy is not listed as Mr. Super Sub but maybe he should be. He played center the first half after Benson’s early foul stayed in the second half as a forward and got about 20. He grew last summer and his size gives us two centers, in effect, on the boards and we took great advantage of this. Old Mr. Super Sub himself was again mighty tough but especially in a department that many miss — steals. Scott May started fast, rested after fouling, got back in when Steve Green fouled out and picked us up by his bootstraps — a fine team effort. The football coaches visited 500 prospects last summer — have it down to about 150 and are recruiting with the idea in mind to get some who can play now, as
