Work continues in the new Pickwick block at Syracuse where a number of upstairs units remain yet to be rented, plus one on the main level and the huge basement Gazebo room area. I New businesses opening in December all reported a good reception during openings. 4 The most recent to open, My Store by Oppenheim, looked slightly empty during opening on December 10 but has added a number of new items now and report doing well. IT WAS a White Christmas in Our Town this year . . . The snow which fell on Wednesday was from 11 to 17 inches deep. Schools in the area which reported no plans of closing last Wednesday noon did close at 1:45 a.m. that day and students received an extended Christmas vacation. Most of the townspeople who work at factories and businesses in town were able to walk to work on Thursday morning. Those who work out-of-town, however, had an vacation. Likewise, persons living outside the town limits who work in Milford were unable to reach their jobs in most cases. The snow, falling so close to Christmas, put everyone in a holiday spirit — folks seemed to be friendlier as they helped one another shovel out. Adams chapter 278 of the Women’s Relief Corps at Syracuse held its December meeting at the home of president Mrs. Georgia Buster. A Christmas gift exchange was held and refreshments served during the social hour which followed. - Legion auxiliary has Christmas workshop American legion Auxiliary, Wawasee Unit 223, Syracuse, met on Tuesday night of last week at the legion home. A brief business meeting was held and rejjorts heard, afterwhich Christmas refreshments were served, a gift exchange held, and plates of cookies and fruit prepared to be taken to World War I veterans. Also, a box of cookies was prepared for both the Orn nursing home at Milford and Cardinal center at Warsaw. Three autos in Saturday collision A three vehicle accident south of Syracuse on CR 530E involved Jeff W. Johnson, 19, r 4 Syracuse, Jack L. Searls, 35, Ligonier, and Lucy J. Pontius, 28, r 1 Milford. The accident which happened at 3:25 Saturday morning was caused by snow and ice on the road, which is south of Syracuse. County police patrolman Jeff Bronsing investigated and set damage at SSOO to the Johnson auto, SIOO to the Searls auto, and SIOO to the Pontius vehicle. No injuries were reported. FLIES TO MINNESOTA TO VISIT SISTER Miss Elsie Bontrager of Waubee Lake flew to Rochester, Minn., to visit her sister, Edith Bontrager who is a patient at the Saint Mary’s hospital, over the holiday week end. Elsie left from the Elkhart airport on Sunday and returned today (Wednesday). White in Rochester, Minn., they celebrated Edith’s birthday which was Monday, Dec. 24, and Cliristmas. LAKELAIMD LOCAL Mrs. Mabel Walton of r 3 Syracuse has been dismissed from Goshen hospital and is convalescing at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Hann at Syracuse.
