Etter is a director. 45 YEARS AGO, DEC. 27,1928 , The fire department was called at 9 a.m. Sunday to the Merle Laughlin home to extinguish a roof blaze and the loss estimated at $l5O was adjusted Monday by agent A. H. Blanchard; Hallie Holloway is the new worshipful master of the Syracuse lodge. Frank Yoder has sold his coal yard to Floyd Hedges. During the month of October, 19 births and 29 deaths were reported for Kosciusko county. Syracuse defeated Cromwell 46-18 in ball action Wednesday evening with the second tearq also winning 24-11. Break-ins continue under investigation Indiana state police continued investigations into area break-ins this last week, one at the Frog Annex last Thursday night, and another sometime during the week end at The Cove Inn. Detective Sergeant Norman Pierce is investigating a burglarly at the mobile home of James Hapner, r 1 Cromwell, Enchanted Hills, sometime between 5 and 8 p.m. Monday. Hapner reported he was fishing and his wife was visiting a friend at the time. The padlock of the home was pried and articles valued at $450, taken from the bedroom, included an automatic shotgun, automatic rifle, and Christmas presents.

Convention for county ASC committee held

Wilbur Latimer, a well-known Kosciusko county farmer, was named to the county Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation (ASC) Committee by delegates to ASC county convention held December 17 at the REMC building. Howard Silveus was elected as chairman of the county committee for the coming year, replacing Scott Horn, who has served as a member of the committee for nine years. Mr. Horn was not eligible to be reelected due to having already served three consecutive terms. The delegates also elected Lowell Anglin and Donald Boggs as first and second alternates to the committee. Silveus has general farming interests near Silver Lake, Strombeck farms southeast of North Webster and Latimer raises registered sheep on his farm near Mentone. The county ASC committee is

Goshen college offers seven courses in Europe this sprint

Goshen college is offering seven courses in Europe this coming spring and summer from April 22 to August 12, open to college students, Goshen alumni, and interested persons who are high school graduates. The courses offered are intermediate German; upper-level German; a middle east Bible seminar; studies in drama: Greek theatre; studies-in communication: British stage; studies in education: innovations in England; and the middle ages, a history course. Both German language courses will be offered April 22-June 7, at the Europa-Kolleg Institute in Kassel, Germany. Students will be living in private homes during the classes. Both courses require a prerequisite. The two language courses will be taught by professors from Germany. A middle east Bible seminar, led by Dr. Stanley C. Shenk, associate professor of Bible at Goshen, will be offered May 23June 19. The seminar will include visits to the countries of Jordan and Israel. Emphasis will be on a better understanding of the biblical materials in the light of middle east geography and archaeology. Studies in drama: Greek theatre, June 17-July 5, will be taught by Dr. Roy Umble, professor of communications at Goshen. The class will take place in Athens, Greece, and the subject studied will be Greek theatre, with tours to museums and historic sites. Studies in education: innovations in England, June 17July 5, will be instructed by Dr. S. L. Yoder, professor of education at Goshen. The course will be taught in London, and is open to juniors, seniors and graduate students. Teachers may apply credit in the course to their master’s program. The course will involve readings and field studies on British schools. A history course, the middle ages, will be taught by Dr. John Oyer, professor of history at Goshen, July 11-August 2. The course will focus on three themes: nonastic renewal; the transition from Romanesque to

Community committees assist the county committee in farm program administration and help keep fanners informed of program provisions. County committeemen are elected by the community committeemen to serve staggered three-year terms, so that ordinarily one vacancy occurs each year. The county committee alternates are elected for one-year terms. The newly elected county and community committeemen take office January 1.

Driver uninjured in Saturday mishap County officers investigated a one car accident Saturday afternoon on Indiana 13-A southeast of Syracuse resulting in $1,500 damage to the car and S2OO to a utility pole.Driver of the auto which slid on ice, left the roadway and struck the pole was Mary T.
