went out of control, went off the roadway and back onto the highway into the path of the 1973 Oldsmobile driven by Malone who was traveling at 25 miles per hour at the time. The VW then rolled over coming to rest on the passenger side at the west edge of the highway and young Johnson was pinned in until rescue units could free him. Malone’s northbound vehicle could not avoid the collision according to officers and though the pavement had been sanded earlier, was wet and near freezing. Building violation to come before BZA
Syracuse building commissioner Ed Anderson called the attention of the Syracuse town board to a pole building being erected in Enchanted Hills with two violations to the zoning ordinance. A picture of the building is shown above. The building is owned by William R. Murrin, 14710 So.
'No energy shortage': Zeldenrust “We don’t have an energy shortage; we have an energy mess.” So stated Robert Zeldenrust, Goshen district manager of the Northern Indiana Public Service Company, before the Milford Lions club Monday night.
Central street, Oak Forest, 111., and wps erected with permit No. 2553, issued August 15, 1973. Commissioner Anderson said the building is too tall and is not the necessary 25 feet from the lot line, making two violations. Anderson said he would bring the case before the Boa?d of Zoning Appeals at their next meeting for action.
He said the United States has seven per cent of the world’s population, but uses 35 per cent of the world’s energies, and that use of energy in this most highly industrialized country keeps increasing by leaps and bounds. Cites Reasons The reasons for the energy crisis are many, Zeldenrust stated, and used a tongue-in-cheek approach to the Nixon administration’s ability to solve it: “How is an administration that can’t operate a tape recorder going to our energy problems?” He cited anti-pollution devices on autos as one viable reason for a gas shortage. He said off-shore oil drilling has been stopped because of ecology people’s complaints. In Alaska drilling has been curtailed because ecology people claim it disturbs the mating habits of carribu. He also said use of high-sulfur coal has been stopped, and more industries are using oil instead of coal.
He said we have an allocation
problem rather than an energy problem He said oil companies have no incentive to drill more wells, overlooking the 27 per cent depreciation allowance oil companies have traditionally received from the Internal Revenue Service. Zeldenrust said the energy shortage will be with us for at least 15 years. Other Business In other business “Bud” Seely reported 500 boxes of grapefruit were sold by club members, and he thanked them for their support on the program. Phil Campbell served as president of the club in the absence of Lion T. A. Miller.
