Christmas in Syracuse churches Many churches of the Syracuse area have held Christmas cantatas and programs and a number are continuing in events in respective churches for the Christmas and New Year schedules. Pentecostal Church Rev. Terry Fleet wood of the Pentecostal church has announced the young people of the church will present a Sunday evening program this coming Sunday night at 7:30. Special all day services will be held on December 30 starting with Sunday School at 10 a.m., dinner at 12:30, fellowship during the afternoon, prayer service at 5 o’clock and a service at 7 p.m. including communion. Wawasee Heights Baptist Church A New Year’s Eve Watchnight service is scheduled at the Wawasee Heights Baptist church starting at 9 o’clock. R. Dean Cooper is pastor of the church. Saint Andrew’s United Methodist Church On Christmas Eve, a communion service will be held at Saint Andrew’s United Methodist church north of Syracuse. An open service, communion will be from 7 to 8:30 o’clock. Church Os God The Syracuse Church of God will hold a special Christmas program this Sunday evening at 7:30 o’clock. Walter C. Burcham is pastor of the church. Church of the Brethren A special Sunday morning Christmas program will be held this Sunday at 9:30 at the Church of the Brethren, and again a ( special program is planned at the 7:30 p.m. service. On New Year’s Eve, youth of the church will have a party at the church starting at 8 o’clock. Rev. Jack Farrell is pastor of the church located on West Main street. Calvary United Methodist Church The children’s department of Calvary United Methodist church south of Syracuse will go Christmas caroling Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock and return to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Garry Eyer for refreshments at the conclusion of the caroling. The senior high youth will have caroling about the area in the evening with a slumber party to follow at the church. Wawasee Lakeside Chapel The youth fellowship group of Wawasee Lakeside Chapel on the east side of Lake Wawasee will hold a New Year’s Eve party at the church. Harlan Steffen is minister of the church. Zion United Brethren Chapel A special Christmas program is being planned at the Zion United Brethren Chapel between Syracuse and North Webster at 10:30 a.m. this coming Sunday. Pastor of the church is Chester Reed. Saint Martin de Porres Catholic Church A special Christmas observance will be held at Saint Martin de Porres Catholic church at Syracuse at 11:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24. Organist Charles Taylor and vocalist Christine Davenport will present a concert of Sacred Christmas music which will be followed at 12 o’clock midnight with the celebration of the Holy Mass. Celebrant at the altar will be Father Eugene Zimmerman, pastor of the church. Assisting the pastor will be James Tranter, commentator; Mrs. John Glon, lector; Dave Stoffel, Mike and Tim Morganthaler, James, Jeff and Jay Glon, altar assistants; Harold Stoffel, John Glon, Sr., John Zimmerman, Herman Brown, Elmer Smith and Tom Quinn, ushers. Two other Christmas masses will be celebrated on Christmas morning at 8 and 10 o’clock. The public is invited to these services.

1 Churches in Milford hold Yule programs The coming days will find many people in the Lakeland area attending churches as congregations throughout the land gather to worship the birth of the Christ child. The following services are planned by the Milford churches: Christian Eldon Wilson, pastor of the Milford Christian church, announces a special Christmas Eve communion service will be held at the church at 7 p.m. During Sunday morning worship the choir will present several numbers honoring the birth of Jesus. The church’s annual program and birthday party for the baby Jesus were held last Sunday night. Featured - during the program were the Good News Sensations singing group and readings by Mrs. W. W. Free plus the presentation of the birthday cake and the money gifts collected by the children of the junior departments. First Brethren The annual candlelight service at the First Brethren church will begin at 11 p.m. with the Christmas story being presented in story and song. Narration will be by Dave Beer, pastor of the church, with traditional Christmas music and readings being given by the adult and children’s choir. Bethel Chruch Sunday morning church services at the Bethel Church of the Brethren on December 22 will follow the ChHstipas theme. Rev. Duane J. peals will be presenting a solo. “Sweet Little Jesus Boy” and the primary children will be singing Christmas carols. The annual program was presented on December 16 and featured carols, a play and the Christmas story from Luke 2:8-14 by members of the junior high department. Presenting the play were members of the 7-A language arts class of the Milford junior high school. The play depicted an old fashioned Christmas and was under the direction of Mrs. Dorothy Williams. Members of the play cast were Melissa Tom, Kathy Bice, Kelli Price, Tammy Miller, Scott Arnold, Roger Hawn and Doug Weisser. J United Methodist A birthday celebration for Christ will be held during the Sunday school hour at the Milford United Methodist church on December 23. All classes of the church school will have special parts in the programing for the party. A birthday cake for Christ will be cut and served toward the conclusion of the hour. Mrs. Robert Brown, chairman of education, is in charge of the preparations for the event. The church members will go caroling this Sunday at 6 p.m. People of all ages are invited to join in the singing throughout the community. Candlelighting worship will be celebrated at the church on Christmas Eve, December 24, beginning at 11 p.m. The service, which has become a tradition with local United Methodists, will close at midnight as the “Christ’s Flame” is taken from the altar and passed to each member of the congregation. Special music for the candlelighting worship service will be provided by the Milford church’s adult choir and the children’s choir, by Mrs. Robert Brown and by Mrs. Robert Brooks. The meditation for the evening, “Journey to Bethlehem,” will be brought by the local pastor, Rev. Ralph Karstedt. Friends of the community are invited to join the United Methodists in this high moment of Christmas celebration. The prelude will begin at 11 p.m. with the formal worship commencing at 11:15. Our Lady of Guadalupe At 11:30 p.m. on December 24, the parishioners of Our Lady of (continued on page 4)
