Speak up — just being mad doesn't help! a*-" ■

By MRS. ANN HANCOOK Extension Home Economist When your TV is on the blink . . . When your lawn mower doesn’t work... When your skirts shrink to mini-skirts... What do you do? Complain! Not to your mother-in-law or to your neighbor, but where you can get action! Complaints do get acLjon if they are reported to the appropriate agency and in the right manner. Most people don’t like to complain so they let it go by until they are driven to it by some outrageously defective product or service. To properly lodge a complaint write a letter, don’t telephone. This way the letter serves as a record for both of you. Also in most cases we will think through a ’otter more carefully. A sarcastic letter is easily ignored but

a factual, simply stated complaint will usually receive some attention. Retailers and manufacturers are interested in selling their product or service so they want to please the consumer. If you need advise or consultation the Consumer Advisory Council, in care of Indiana Department of Commerce, 336 State House, Indianapolis 46204, is the agency to contact. They can advise you on the proper action to take. Nationally the Presidents’ Committee on Consumer Interest, Washington D.C. 20506, will give advise and help solve individual problems. According to the late President John F. Kennedy the consumer has four rights. They are: the right to safety, the right to be informed, the right to choose and

the right to be heard. It is our responsibility to live up to these rights. French Chocolate Ice Cream (Blender Recipe) In a small saucepan combine V 4 cup sugar and one-third cup water. Bring to a boil and boil rapidly for 3 minutes. Into your blender put: 1 package (6 oz.) semi-sweet chocolate pieces. Add the hot syrup, cover and blend on high speed for 20 seconds or until sauce is smooth. Add: 3 egg yolks. Stir to combine, cover and blend for 10 seconds. Fold chocolate mixture into 14 cups cream, whipped. Spoon into refrigerator tray, cover with wax paper and freeze for 2-3 hours. This needs no stirring and will not form ice crystals. L' • EHJ A good punch recipe is a boon to the holiday hostess. Made ahead of time so the various flavors have a chance to “marry”, a punch leaves her free to enjoy her own party. And a punch acts like a magnet for the guests, drawing them together in informal groups around the brimming bowl. A magic ingredient in a good punch is a base of strong tea. The tea gives body to the punch without masking the flavors of the other ingredients. \ ou can use teabags, loose tea or instant tea to make the tea base and combine with fruit juices, carbonated beverages, spices. The Sparkling Cherry Orange Bowl pictured above starts with a spiced tea base which is mixed with canned cherry-red . punch, lemon juice and orange soda. Pretty to the eye pleasing to the palate. Sparkling Cherry Orange Bowl» (Makes about 5 quarts or forty 4 oz. servings) 1 quart water 2 (46 oz.) cans cherry 6 teabags or 2 tablespoons Royal Hawaiian loose tea or 2 table- f Bunch, chilled spoons instant tea *J 1 hbttled lemon juice o • i , „ 1 (32 oz.) bottle orange 3 cinnamon sticks, each 2 chiUed inches long Orange slices 1 teaspoon whole cloves Ice cubes In a saucepan, bring water to a full rolling boil.
