OBITUARIES
Df. Henry Alderfer Funeral services were held at Marion for Dr. Henry Alderfer, 55,919 Euclide Ave., Marion, and Lake Wawasee resident, who passed away December 7 at the Marion hospital. Death came at 10:45 p.m. and was due to a heart attack he had suffered earlier in the evening. Dr. Alderfer was born in Pennsylvania and he is survived by his wife, Helen; two daughters, Mrs. John Cofryn of Madison, Wis., and Debra, at home; one son, Mark, at home; one brother, Dr. Harold Alderfer of West Chester, Pa. Dewey V. Lienhart Services were held Monday for Dewey V. Lienhart, 75, of Wakarusa and Lake Wawasee. Death came Saturday at Elkhart hospital where he had been a patient for four weeks and was attributed to complications. Mr. Leinhart was born on March 5,1898 at Wakarusa, a son of Edward and Annetta Lienhart and worked in his family’s funeral home and furniture businesses for a time. He became a licensed funeral director in 1921 becoming a part owner of the Lienhart funeral home and Lienhart Furniture company in 1945, and continued to work at the funeral home after its sale in 1967. A founder of the Wakarusa Merchants association, he was a member of the Wakarusa United Methodist church, the Lions club there, a 50-year member of the Legion, and a veteran of World War I. He was united in marriage to the former Melba Method on September 12, 1921, and she survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Suzanne) Schlagenhauf of Fort Wayne and Miss Mary Lienhart, Rosemont, Ill.; two grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs.

Emma Rheubottom of Boca Raton, Fla., Mrs. Edna Doering and Mrs. Marie Lyman, both of Wakarusa, and Mrs. Mabel Fries, South Bend; and one brother, Carl Lienhart of Wakarusa. He was a brother-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. John Method of Milford. Interment was in Olive cemetery. Charles W. Young Funeral services were held on Monday for Charles W. Young, 63, 380 S. Main street, Goshen, husband of Milford elementary school teacher Mabel Young. He passed away at the Goshen hospital at 2:50 a.m. Friday. He became ill on Thursday evening and was taken to the hospital. The deceased was born in LaGrange county on September 20,1910. He lived most of his life in the Goshen area. He was a rural mail carrier until his retirement in March of 1966. Young was a member of the Goshen City Church of the Brethren, Masonic Lodge, Order of Eastern Star, Scottish Rite, New Paris Lions club, American Legion, 40 et 8, FOP and National Association of Federal Employees as well as the National Association of Mail Carriers. He was a veteran of World War 11. Surviving with the wife, the former Mabel Miller whom he married May 5, 1935; are the parents, Charles and Tena (Warner) Young, both residents of the Goshen nursing home. A brother, Rev. James O. Young, died in 1964. Emma Biller Funeral services were held at the funeral home in Milford at 2 p.m. Sunday for Mrs. Emma Biller, 88, who died at 9:45 p.m. Thursday. in the Om nursing home in Milford. She had been at the nursing home for the past two years. Mrs. Biller was born in Michigan on September 27, 1885
to John and Tilly Lambright. She resided in the Hastings community most of her life. She and Earl Biller were united in marriage in 1904. He preceded x her in death on May 2, 1965. She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. One sister and one brother preceded her in death. ’ Rev. David Widmoyer, pastor of the Hastings United Methodist church, officiated at the services. Burial was in the Island Chapel cemeterv. Berniece I. Baumgartner Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday) in the Mishler funeral home in Milford for Mrs. Wilbur (Berniece I.) Baumgartner, 66, Milford. Mrs. Baumgartner, 66, died of a heart condition at 8:55 p.m. Monday. She had been admitted to the Goshen hospital four days prior to her death. The deceased was born in Elkhart on September 17,1907 to Lawrence and Lola (Allen) Moore. She and Wilbur Baumgartner were married on March 15, 1933. \ She was a member of the Saint Mark’s United Methodist church in Goshen, active in the Girl Scouts and Red Cross, a 39 year member of the Columbia Reading Circle and the Order of the Eastern Star, Kosciusko chapter 160, where she was a past matron and was currently serving as secretary. - Surviving with the husband are her father, also of Milford; and two grandchildren, Mrs. Kevin (Kristi) Gautsche of Goshen and Brian of Fort Wayne. Her mother, daughter and one brother preceded her in death. Rev. Ralph Karstedt will officiate at services with burial in the Milford cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home between 2 and 4 and 7 and 9 p.m. today (Wednesday). Eastern Star services will be held this evening at 8 p.m. Terry Hatfield Terry Lee Hatfield, 35, 18jAJ Sharon St., Warsaw, stepson/of Harold Oler of Leesburg, away Monday at 8:55 a.m. at the Murphy Medical Center in Warsaw. Mr. Hatfield was born on March 22, 1938 to Robert and □eota (Bradbury) Hatfield at Washington Center. He was united in marriage to Patsy Hamilton on May 2, 1959 in Yorktown. He had spent most of his life in the Warsaw area and was an employee of Clausing, Inc., Warsaw. He was also a mfember of the Warsaw Racing
association. Surviving with the widow and stepfather are two children at home, Susan and Jeffery; one sister, Dixie Eiler, New York; two half sisters, Anita Yoder, Pierceton, and Londa Kay Wilkerson, Lafayette; two half brothers, Randal Oler, Warsaw, and Mark Hatfield, Germany. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. today (Wednesday) in a Warsaw funeral home. Interment was in the Oakwood cemetery at Warsaw. ■ Myrtus Custer Funeral services for Myrtus Custer, 51, r 2 Claypool, brother of Stanley and Raymond Custer of Milford, will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at the Pierceton Methodist church. Mr. Custer passed away Monday at 8 a.m. at his home of a heart attack. He had been ill for about a year. Mr. Custer was born on January 23, 1922 in Leesburg to John and Lillian (Baumgartner) Custer. He was married to Lucille Diche on May 28,1951 and she passed away August 16,1953. On April 10,1959 he was married to Jean Kummic and she preceded him in death on January 30,1960. On June 1,1961 he was united in marriage to June Ransbottom and she survives. He was a farmer and a drainage contractor, a member of the Menzie Reece Post 258 at Pierceton and a disabled veteran of WW 11. Surviving with the widow and two brothers are his mother; one daughter, Pamela, at home; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Dennis (Pat) George of Nappanee, Sue Zolman, Warsaw, and Sara Richards, Owensville; two stepsons, Randy and Dan Ransbottom, both of Claypool; six grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Dorothea Elder, Atlanta, Ga., Mrs. Jo Ann Dierks, Sidney, and Mrs. Charlotte Cooper, Mishawaka. Friends will be received at the Wyman funeral home in Pierceton from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 today (Wednesday) with the services being held on Thursday. Theo Beer will officiate and interment will be in the Stoney Point cemetery at Nappanee. Mrs. Thelma Justus Mrs. Thelma F. Justus, 67, of Cromwell died at 10 p.m. Monday in Goshen hospital. She had been a patient in the hospital for three days and ill two weeks. Mrs. Justus was born in Shelby county on April 17,1906. She was married April 7,1921 to Milton H. Justus who survives. They had lived in Cromwell since 1931. She was a member of the Ligonier Eastern Star chapter and the

Funeral services will be held in the Ulrey funeral home at Cromwell at 1:30 p.m. Thursday with Rev. George Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Sparta cemetery. Miss Bontrager underwent surgery on her spine a few weeks ago with complications setting in with a second operation being necessary. She is reported as improving and is hoping to be moved to a hospital closer to home soon. OTHER HOSPITAL NEWS Dixie Likens of North Webster was dismissed from the Whitley County hospital at Columbia City late last week. Ruth Graber of North Webster was admitted to the Columbia City hospital early this week. Maureen Murphy of Leesburg was admitted to the hospital at Columbia City early this week. Oliver Replogle of Milford was released from the Goshen hospital Saturday morning and is recuperating at his home. Mrs. Howard Haab of Milford is a patient at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, where she underwent surgery on Monday of this week. She is expected to return home this week end. Mabie Penn of North Webster was admitted to the Whitley County hospital early this week. Walter Carroll of Leesburg was admitted to the Columbia City hospital this week. Michael Shenefield of Syracuse was admitted to the Whitley County hospital at Columbia City the first of the week. Mrs. Robert Hamman of Cromwell is recuperating at her home following her release Saturday from Goshen hospital where she was treated for pneumonia. Mrs. Harold Young Snow covered curve causes accident Rocky L. Hunter, 19, r 1 Leesburg, was the-dhver of an auto involved, in a single car accident at 6:15 p.m. Monday on the Adams road. Hunter reported to the county police that the car slid on a snow covered curve, left the road and struck a tree. Damage was set at S3SJ) to the auto. * man-made perch comforts eagle family A 60-foot eagle perch overlooking Oregon’s Klamath Lake was designed by Wyerehaeuser Co., which carries on a strict eagle-protection program on its lands, and erected by company employes. The eagles, who had been nesting in two old poplar trees brought down by wind, old age and a family of beavers, promptly took over the perch as a base for hunting food on the lake. - CNS
