14 YEARS AGO. DEC. 17.1959 Mrs. Leßoy Lehman of Oswego was hostess Friday evening at a pink and blue shower for Mrs. Howard Lehman. A pot luck supper preceded the regular meeting of the Waubee grange Thursday evening the tables decorated in keeping with Christmas and lighted candles. Mrs. Glenn Morehead was honored at a pink and blue shower Thursday evening of last week by the choir of the First Brethren church. Trustee Ray E. Ferverda stated that forms will be sent to parents of students attending Milford school to see if they feel a fire escape should be placed at the high school. The Friendship class of the First Brethren church met Sunday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Brown. The Ancil Geiger post 226 American Legion met Monday evening at the legion home with 15 members present. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Scott entertained at a fish fry Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Zimmerman entertained at a chicken dinner Tuesday evening honoring the seventh birthday of their daughter, Barbara Joan. The Sorosis club had its Christmas party at the Westminster hotel at Winona Lake Monday evening. The Boy Scout troop will gather up old papers and magazines in the north and west part of town Saturday. The Sorosis club Christmas party was held Monday evening with 17 members and three guests at the home of Mrs. Katherine Stoller where a three course dinner was served. DEC. 14,1933 It has been announced that the month of December is the only time that auto drivers will be able to get their license plates due to the fact the last day of December is the dead line. Commercialized entertainment has given most of the young people today a false idea of what to do with leisure time. A surprise birthday party was held at the Bethel church Friday evening in honor of the anniversaries of Vern Stockberger and Royce Fuller. The Home Arts club met with Mrs. Carl Gawthrop at her home east of Milford Tuesday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Davis and daughter spent Sunday afternoon with the Floyd Tusing family, Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Estep spent Sunday in Fort Wayne as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. ChaHes Gay. Minor injuries in rear end collision Minor injuries were sustained in a two-vehicle rear end collision on county road 33 (formerly Indiana 313) about four miles north of Syracuse at 11:24 p.m. Friday, with extensive damage to both vehicles. Dale Sark, 17, r 4 Goshen, was treated at Goshen hospital, and released, for bruises of the forehead and right eye. The other driver, Larry D. Weaver, Jr., 18, Syracuse, was not injured. The collision occurred as Sark slowed his southbound 1965 Mercury to turn into a private drive, and Weaver, also southbound, braked his 1968 Chevrolet which skidded for 226 feet before hitting the left rear section of the Sark auto. The Mercury then went into a utility pole and Weaver continued for another 206 feet before coming to rest. The Elkhart county sheriff’s department investigated. Bauman brothers complete basic FORT KNOX, Ky. — Army privates Robert L. and Jim T. Bauman, Jr., sons of Mr. and Mrs. Jim T. Bauman, Sr., 443 N. Huntington St., Syracuse, completed eight weeks of basic training at the US army training center, Armor, Ft. Knox, Ky. They received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, combat tactics, military courtesy, military justice, first aid, and army history and traditions.
