Annual Syracuse PTO open house is set
The Syracuse Parent-Teacher organization will be holding its annual open house, book fair and family dinner on the evening of Thursday, Dec. 6. The dinner will be served in the school cafeteria from 5:30 to 6:45

The book fair has been changed this year whereby books for each school, elementary and junior high, will be displayed in the individual libraries and there will be no lay-away at the elementary level. Junior high students may layaway or purchase books anytime during the day or evening, however, elementary students can purchase books only during the open house hours and until school begins the next day. Mrs. Gareth Meek is book fair chairman and school librarians are: Junior high, Mrs. Ronald Sharp; elementary, Mrs. Varner Chance. Mrs. Tom Leonard is chairman of the family dinner. FALL CLASS — Shown above is the fall class of Kosciusko county men who received the 32d of Scottish Rite Masonry in the Valley of Fort Wayne this fall. The degree work was held on two week ends, Saturday, Nov. 10, and Saturday, Nov. 17. The Kosciusko county men were part of a group of 216 men from 16 counties surrounding Fort Wayne. Shown in the front row, left to right, are Robert B. Craig, John R. Sprong, James R. Craig, David Berger, Jerry L. Craig, Max E. Hay and two unidentified men. In the second row are Max Kleinknight, Raymond A. Hawkins, Howard H. Alderfer, James Gates, Erman L. Dowell, Howard C. Locke and John E. Weeks. Carl T. Zimmer was recently nominated and elected to receive the 33d degree at the Detroit, Mich., meeting of the supreme council of the Northern Masonic jurisdiction of Scottish Rite Free Masonry of the United States of America. Zimmer will receive the degree next September in Atlantic City, N. J. He receives the degree far work in Masonry and humanism. Zimmer, auditor of Kosciusko county for the past 11 years, resides at 1222 East Main street in Warsaw with his wife, the
former Lottie E. Swoverland. They have one son, Richard, r 6 Warsaw. Only one other man in Kosciusko county, Frank 0. Rarick of 112 N. Washington street, Warsaw, holds the 33d degree. Zimmer is the Kosciusko county membership chairman for the Valley of Fort Wayne Scottish Rite. Larry Yeiter was elected Sgt.-at-Arms and Rev. John E. fer y. CARL T. ZIMMER Past Matrons, Patrons hold Christmas party The Past Matrons and Patrons dub of Milford held its annual 'Christmas party Sunday night in the home of Mrs. Herbert Baumgartner. Husbands and wives, past matron and patron Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wantz of New Castle, now residents of Dewart Lake, and Paula Schultz being guests for the evening. A carry-in supper was enjoyed at 5:30 p.m. Gifts were placed around the Christmas tree and were used as prizes for dudd’s bridge.

Tom Bailey recuperating from burns from Thanksgiving fire
Tom Bailey, son of Mrs. Robert Justus of Syracuse, is at home recuperating from burns sustained to both hands, leg and face in a garage fire and explosion during Thanksgiving vacation with relatives at Rising Sun, Ohio. The fire occurred in a workshop of Thomas Aldrich as the owner poured kerosene on the floor to clean it and a heater ignited the fuel. Primary Mothers to join Meals on Wheels During the Monday night meeting of the Syracuse Primary Mothers club at the home of Mrs. Ed Leamon in Syracuse, members voted to join the organization in assisting in the Meals on Wheels associated with a nursing home at Goshen. Christmas ideas of members were exchanged and plans announced for the annual Christmas party to be held December 15 at the home of Mrs. John Rose, with a group gift exchange to be held. The next regular club meeting will be a carry-in supper at 7 p.m. on January 7 in the home of Mrs. James Tranter with Mrs. Donald Yeargain, Mrs. John Roth and Mrs. Jay Price assisting.

Thomas, 18, was in the shop at the time and was rushed to Fostoria hospital as was two-year-old Patricia Aldrich, who suffered burns over 54 per cent of her body and in her respiratory system. The Aldrich youth died the following Monday at Saint Vincent’s hospital there. Her father also sustained serious burns in the fire which destroyed the automotive shop. SSOO damage in two-car crash A car driven by Larry G. Rogers, 23, Leesburg, struck a parked auto belonging to Debra Sullivan, 101 Prairie St., Leesburg, late last week in Leesburg. Rogers reported to county police Sgt. Ronald Robinson that he misjudged the distance of the car from the curb and accidentally struck the Sullivan auto. Damage was set at $350 to the Sullivan auto and at $l5O to the Rogers vehicle. FATAL NEGLECT The American Cancer Society has predicted that 109,000 people will die of cancer in 1974 for lack of ear# diagnosis and prompt, proper treatment.
