OBITUARIES

Samuel Hartter Services were held Saturday, Nov. 17, for Samuel Hartter, 88, r 1 Milford, who passed away Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the Elkhart hospital at 7:40 p.m. Death was attributed to complications of a fractured hip. He had been ill for one week. Mr. Hartter was born in Morton, 111., on August 31,1885 to George and Magdalene (Jacobs) Hartter. He was united in marriage to Elzina Mathews on August 26, 1908. He was a member of the Milford First Brethren church and had resided in the Milford community for the past 69 years. Surviving with the widow is one daughter, Mrs. Lawrence (Mildred) Randall of Leesburg; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters. Rev. Albert Curtwright officiated for the services with Glen Bixler assisting at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Interment was in the Milford cemetery. of Verl Zartman of Milford, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m. Death occurred at the nursing home. Mrs. Ramsey was born on March 8, 1887 to William and Hannah (White) Bick at Rochester. She had lived most of her life in the Fulton county area. Surviving with the son of Milford are two daughters, Mrs. Fern Taylor, Claypool, Mrs. Esther McFarland, Plymouth; three other sons, Carl Zartman, Melvern, Ark., Manford Zartman, Kokomo, and Lawrence Zartman, Ortonville, Mich.; 35 grandchildren; 96 greatgrandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sons. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday with Rev. Maurice Kent officiating. Interment was in the Citizen’s cemetery at Rochester. Daniel G. Roth Daniel G. Roth, 73, 1624 Lane Ave., Elkhart, father of Mrs. Chester Warner, Leesburg, passed away Sunday morning at the Elkhart hospital. Mr. Roth was born on December 10,1897 at Middlebury and was united in marriage to

Cleffie Woodson on April 7, 1928 in Elkhart. He retired in 1961 from Days Transfer and was a World War I veteran. Surviving with the daughter of Leesburg and the widow is another daughter, Mrs. Eugene VanDuesen, Elkhart; one son, M. Daniel Roth, Elkhart; 11 grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Louis Boose, Goshen, Mrs. Helen Schuler, Mrs. Winfred Kamp, Mrs. Charles Babcock, all of Elkhart, Miss Sarah Roth, Madison, Wis. Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday with Rev. Charles Cochran officiating. Interment was in the Rice cemetery. Dale R. Freed Funeral services for Dale R. Freed, 49, r 2 Milford, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. Clarence Fike officiating. Mr. Freed was pronounced dead on arrival at the Murphy Medical Center in Warsaw at 7:40 p.m. Friday. Death was attributed to a heart attack. He had been suffering from a kidney ailment for the past five years. Mr. Freed was born on July 2, 1924 to Marvin and Mabel (Schaal) Freed at Plymouth. He was united in marriage to Joan Smith on January 30,1953. He had been a Milford resfdent for the past 17 years and was an employee of Mutschler Brothers of Nappanee.

Surviving with the widow are three sons, Dale Wayne, David Eugene and Donald Ray, all at home; his mother, Mrs. Marvin Freed of r 3 Bremen; one brother, Marvin F. Freed, Jr., r 1 Plymouth. He was preceded in death by his father, a son and a brother. Burial was in the Oak Hill cemetery at Plymouth. Mrs. Annie Kershner Mrs. Annie L. Kershner, 89, 1613 Huron St., Elkhart, mother of Clifford Kershner, Milford, passed away Tuesday at 11:45 p.m. at the Elkhart hospital. Mrs. Kershner was born on December 2,1884 in Big Rapids, Mich. She was united in marriage to William Kershner on June 12, 1912 in Paris, Mich., and he {receded her in death on August 23, 1964. Surviving with the Milford son are two others sons, Lyle and William, both of Elkhart; four daughters, Mrs. Dora Eggleston, Mrs. Laura Massing, Mrs. Mary Farnsworth and Mrs. Louella Bleile, all of Elkhart; 27 grandchildren; 59 great-grand-children; and 31 great-great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in the Seventh Day Adventist church at Elkhart. Pastor Richard Stutz will officiate with burial in the Rice cemetery. Friends will be received at the Stemm-Lawson funeral home in Elkhart from 7 to 9 Wednesday and 7 to 9 Thursday. John Clausen Funeral services will be held at 1 o’clock Friday afternoon for John Clausen, 73, a r 4 Syracuse summer resident. Death came at 8:45 a.m. Monday at Bradenton, Fla., where he made his winter home. Formerly of Fort Wayne, he was a native of Sandusky, Ohio. A member of Calvary United Methodist church at Syracuse, Mr. Clausen was a retired International Harvester general foreman of 27 years at Fort Wayne, a past president of the International Harvester foreman’s club, and former past president of the Waynedale Lions club. He is survived by his wife, Verda, and one son, Jerald of Fort Wayne. Friday services will be held at the Elzey home for funerals at Waynedale where friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 Thursday. Rev. Ross Cook of Syracuse will officiate for services and interment will be in Lindenwood cemetery at Fort Wayne. Memorials may made to the Heart association. /

Mrs. Eldon Martin Services were held today (Wednesday) for Mrs. Hazel Frazier Martin, 58, of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of Warsaw. A sister of Mrs. Dixie Shipler of Syracuse, she passed away last Friday in Good Samaritan hospital at Phoenix. Mrs. Martin was born February 20,1915 in Kentucky, a daughter of Joe and Maggie (Fields) Stamper. Her first husband, David Frazier, preceded her in death in 1962. She later married Eldon A. Martin who survives. In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Robert Frazier of Kansas City, Mo., one stepson, Carmel Frazier, Dayton, Ohio; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Eldean Houser and Mrs. Robert Short, both of Phoenix; 15 grandchildren; two brothers, Judd Stamper of Warsaw and Bert Stamper, Phoenix; and one other sister, Mrs. Lucille Harrold of Akron. Burial was in Oakwood cemetery.

Beatriz Carvajal, 36, Milford, was taken to the Goshen hospital Monday morning after becoming ill at the Go-Re-Co plant at 7:50. Oliver Replogle of Milford was dismissed from the Goshen hospital Saturday, Nov. 17, and is recuperating at his Milford home. Mrs. Paul Buhrt of Milford remains a patient at the Goshen hospital where she underwent surgery on Monday, Nov. 12. She is in room 302. Mrs. Samuel Hartter of Milford was released from the Gosien hospital Monday. She was then taken to the Alfran nursing home in Warsaw. Miss Edith Bontrager of Waubee Lake remains a patient in the Saint Mary’s hospital in Rochester, Minn. Miss Bontrager underwent surgery on Monday and is a patient in the intensive care unit of the hospital.

The Buick is owned by the D. G. Seelys of Milford. No damage was reported to the Cannon vehicle with S2OO damage reported to the left rear bumper of the Seely Buick. The accident was investigated by officer John Trier. Attempted break*in at Lakeside Laundry Kosciusko county officers continued investigation into an attempted break-in at the Lakeside Laundry south of Syracuse on Indiana 13 sometime last night, or early this morning (Wednesday.) The attempt was discovered by the owners as they arrived this morning, and was in a door opening to the back of the coinoperated dry cleaning machine and money box, however, nothing was taken.
