Syracuse defeats Central Noble The Syracuse Yellow Jacket eighth grade basketball team got off to a flying start Tuesday with a 50-24 victory over Central Noble. Rick McKibben and Bryan Smith led the winners with 15 and 16 points, respectively. Ken Patton had 12 rebounds and played a good defensive game for Syracuse. The Jackets started slowly but put through 19 points in the second quarter to take a 27-11 lead, with nine Jackets scoring in the game. The defensive effort was good also as Syracuse forced Central Noble into five charging fouls. The Syracuse seventh grade team lost 49-22, falling behind in

Scores of the most famous children’s storybook characters will take the young folks of this area on a thrilling tour through the worlds of enchantment, excitement and make believe when they appear at “Mother Goose’ Birthday Party,” for matinee performances Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Pickwick Theater in Syracuse. “Mother Goose’ Birthday Party” is a production of K. Gordon Murray whose name has become synonymous with the production of fairy tale pictures fa- children. This lavish film spectacular features a parade of 40 characters from the Fairy Tale World brought to the screen in five segments aptly titled ‘Happenings.’ Rounding out the program are two ‘Laff’ cartoons. “Mother Goose’ Birthday
Party” reveals five famous stories all in one program in which the characters are, of course, the most popular personalities of storybook lore. As most of Murray’s films are adoptions of old fairy tale classics, this presentation is no exception. Murray is quite pleased that many movie house owners complain that the children won’t budge from their seats once the movie starts to buy popcorn and candy. “It is certainly the type of fare that kiddies enjoy,” says Murray. When we speak of kiddies, in relation to “Mother Goose’ Birthday Party,” it can mean people of all ages. A program of this type takes us all back to our childhood, recapturing the wonders, splendor and fun of fantasy. K. Gordon Murray has dedicated the “Mother Goose’ Birthday Party” program to “Children of All Ages, 2 to 92,” and everyone will be admitted to the theater at children’s admission prices. By attending this fun program, one can live or relive (whichever the case) a few wonderful minutes of being a child. Hurryin Hoosiers By J. Q. Fann
MICHIGAN STATE 10 - INDIANA 9 and two weeks in a row with a one pant loss. Little second guessing here for LU. fans seemed about 50 to one to go for two instead of the sure tie. We had a good shot when the kickoff was down on the 2 yard line but let it get away. There was time and Stavroff was holding an I.U. record of 52 yards. Our running game was working and Courtney Snyder was beginning to show the greatness that everyone is figuring for him. His 43 yarder was the longest run from scimmage for an I.U. back in quite a while. He was within 6 inches —a diving shoestring sto — from going about 90 fa* a touchdown. Close is fa* horseshoes but it is encouraging. Doug Gordon —a walkon — got early baptismal. Mason was sacked and he had to take over. He shows promise too but a little green. A toucher running attack by Michigan State but then two Indiana grads — Dave Brown of Bloomington and Clarence Bullock from Fort Wayne — are picking up steam and did the job on us. Their 5 ft 7 quarterback — Twillingham was their big key as he ran and threw very well. Our combination of lack of strength — that will come with some age and work — experience and the half a step in speed hurt us outside but we fought them hard and a little recruiting — time on the weights — and work on the step of speed and the defense should be tough next year. We lose Barszilauskas and Odell from the lads that played practically all of the game. A little beefing up in spots and we will get the offense the football. It is a great opening for the recruiters for several freshmen can play a bit if not more. I see an opening for three bonecrushing, hard running fullbacks, 5 big linemen, some running backs, a wide receiver and a couple of defensive backs — all to play considerable football as a freshman and team with the bi bunch of present freshmen and sophomores to make a real threat out of the group. Stavroff and his field goal shots make this a part of our game. He was too erratic early but more and more he might have done it against Northwestern if the officials had spotted the 3 man defense on the first play. John

Babcock played most of the game —a 196 center. I don’t know what happened to Chuck Sukurs but only hope he is back against Purdue but my hat is off to John. When I first saw him I was sure he would never get big enough to play but he is and has another year. I wish I knew who was numbered 91. It said Schreckengast but he is a defensive tackle. He played well and helped the running game as a tight end but looked like a tackle. A good idea Corso. You still can’t tell the players with a scorecard.
