14 YEARS AGO. NOV. 26,1959 Mr. and Mrs. Lavent Tom entertained recently at a surprise party honoring the first wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. John Mullinix. Mrs. Mullinix is the former Carol Tom. Mrs. Ralph Blake of Dewart Lake entertained honoring Mrs. Helen Cunningham of Detroit, Mich., mother of Mrs. Herb Kann, at a Canasta party Tuesday evening. Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Rodney McCreary were Rev. and Mrs. Raymond Smith of Syracuse, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gardner of Chicago, Mrs. Julia Hoke of Goshen, Mrs. Goldie Stewart of Middlebury, Mrs. Anna Mishler of Syracuse, and Mr. and Mrs. Roy McCreary of Milford. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Phelps of Olympia, Wash., are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Ted Brooks, Jr. They arrived last Friday and will remain until December 2. The Phelps are the parents of Mrs. Brooks. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wolferman and Mr. and Mrs. Don Wolferman and daughters will have Thanksgiving dinner with the Frederick Wolfermans. The Milford Adult Evening class in Agriculture will meet for the first meeting this winter on the evening of December 7 in the Milford Vocational Agriculture department. Mrs. Ed Phillips, who was in Yokahama, Japan, with her ailing mother, rejoined her husband and son on Monday of last week. 24 YEARS AGO. NOV. 24,1949 A group of Milford Lions and their ladies attended the annual Lions’ Ladies Night at the Yellow Banks hotel on Webster Lake Monday night. An exhibition basketball game will be played at Middlebury on Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Burl Warren, Sr., entertained for their daughter’s 16th birthday on Thursday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dressel held a family dinner Sunday in honor of their son, Max, who is at home on a 15 day furlough. The marriage of Mrs. Anna Mathews and John Wesley Rowdabaugh took place at the parsonage of the Syracuse United Brethren church Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Searfoss called at the Champion fruit farm Sunday afternoon. The time is here when Christmas gifts should be placed in the mail for delivery to friends and relatives in distant places. Main street in Milford was crowded Saturday night when area people attended the sugar event held at the Sharp Hardware. According to Milford dealers, the Thanksgiving turkey will probably cost 27 to 30 cents a pound, dressed. We have often heard the expression that a toothache feels good when it stops aching. The Milford basketball team motored to Etna Green Friday night where they defeated Etna Green, 28 to 11. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Drudge are the parents of a son, Lawrence Arthur. Mr. and Mrs. Alpheus Estep spent Sunday afternoon at the Marshall Estep home. Mrs. Sarah Rex was hostess to the Columbian Reading Circle on Monday evening with 17 members present for roll call. William Martin has traded his car for one of the new Chevrolets. Paul Buhrt and Lawrence Dewart and families were Sunday dinner guests in the Jacob Bucher home. Lu To Lo La's meet at scout cabin By AMY REED The Lu Ta Lo La’s Camp Fire group met November 14 at the scout cabin. Jossett Glon opened the meeting with the Woodgatherer’s desire. Mrs. Bjella’s group visited ours. Their group name is Ta-Wa-Tin-Ya. There were nine members there and nine guests. We looked inside our new book to see how to get honors. Mrs. Peg Overfelt told about Camp Fire. Tammy McCullough brought refreshments. For the end, we sang the Woodgatherer’s song.

Snowmobile club starts second season Members and families of the Wawasee Snowmobile club, the Hardwater Riders, met last Friday night at Saint Andrew’s United Methodist church at Syracuse for a carry-in dinnermeeting to start their second season. A total of 70 attended. New officers elected are: President — Dave Heckaman Vice president — Lowell Ensinger Secretary — Mrs. Larry Clodfelter Treasurer — Mrs. Ensinger John Brewer was elected to the board of directors; Terry McLeod, social chairman; and Gary Webb, publicity. Three films were shown by Earl Money on snowmobiling. The next meeting will be at 7:30 p.m., December 4 at the Frog Annex. Firemen called to Prep school Syracuse volunteer firemen responded to a call Sunday at 12:59 p.m. at Wawasee Prep school when a lighted candle fell from a holder onto a bed. Approximately SIOO in damage was estimated to a bed mattress and portion of a wall. Senior Citizens meet last week The Turkey Creek Senior Citizens met twice last week. The first was for a Wednesday luncheon attended by 14 members which was a Thanksgiving dinner in Moose lodge at Goshen, as guests of the Maple City Senior Citizens. A total of 21 members met at the Syracuse fire station Thursday night where they continued on to North Webster for a dinner and social evening. Twilighters meet at Ringler home Mrs. Franklin Ringler was hostess Monday night to 13 members of the Twilighters Bunco club at Syracuse, with Mrs. James Mench assisting. Mrs. Norman Robie was a guest. New officers elected for the ensuing year were: President — Mrs. Charles Searfoss Secretary-treasurer — Mrs. Donald Niles » High for the evening went to Mrs. Searfoss; low, Mrs. Tim Darr; travel, Mrs. Warren Benson; and door prize, Mrs. Gene Kitson. Birthday gifts went to Mrs. Gerald Bitner and Mrs. Bill Cobum. Mrs. Eugene Henning and Mrs. Searfoss received anniversary gifts. Hie.next meeting will be the club’s Christmas party at the Kale Island Beacon at 6:30 p.m. on December 19. Following dinner, members will go to the home of Mrs. Bitner for a short meeting and gift exchange. LAKELAND LOCAL Mrs. Minnie Decker, formerly of Milford and now of Gas City, is spending a few days in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Reed at Syracuse.
