OBITUARIES
Mrs. Harold Hawks Funeral services were held Monday for Mrs. Reva Hawks, 64, r 1 Syracuse. Death came at 10:20 Friday night at Goshen hospital where she had been a patient for one week due to a heart ailment. Mrs. Hawks was born hi Benton on April 22, 1909 a daughter of Harley and Ellen Offapner) Bunger. A resident of theßentonSyracuse community all of her life, she was united in marriage April 23,1927 to Harold B. Hawks. He preceded her in death in 1960. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Peter (Dorothy) Mangus of r 1 Syracuse; three sons, Donald and Wayne, both of r 1 Syracuse and Herbert, Indianapolis; four grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Virgil Showalter of Millersburg. One grandchild preceded her in death. Interment was in Baintertown cemetery. Robert O. Bowser Services were held Saturday for Robert 0. Bowser, 59, r 3 Syracuse. He passed away at 12:30 a.m. Thursday in Goshen hospital following an illness of three years. A member of Grace Lutheran church at Syracuse, he was born on March 14,1914 at Milford. His marriage to the former Olive Baugher took place in 1936 and she survives. Mr. Bowser was a past president of the Goshen Kiwanis club and employed by Penn Controls for 29 years and Cutter Chevrolet at Syracuse for five years. He moved to the Syracuse community 17 years ago from Goshen. In addition to the widow, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Edward (Claudette) McQuillian of Syracuse; one son, Gregory of r 3 Syracuse; five grandchildren; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bowser of * Goshen; three

brothers, Lamar and Charles, both of Elkhart, and Jack, Goshen; and two sisters, Mrs. Alva (Jeanette) Van Dyke of Nappanee and Mrs. Dale (Joy) Merek, Indianapolis. Interment was in North Webster cemetery. Miss Vera O'Dell Word has been received here of the death of Miss Vera O’Dell, formerly of Syracuse, on October 23 in Community hospital at Indianapolis. Miss O’Dell was born in Syracuse on April 14, 1889 and graduated from Syracuse high school. She was a teacher for 48 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian church, Four Arts club, Childhood Education association, Business and Professional Women’s club, YWCA, Indiana Teachers association, National Education association, Indiana Retired Teachers association, National Retired Teachers association and Johnson County Retired Teachers association. Miss O’Dell and her sister, Violet, moved in 1965 to Westminster Village at Greenwood. She is survived by her sister and several cousins. Burial was in Syracuse cemetery. Edward Mulligan Edward Thomas Mulligan, 69, r 1 Larwill, father of Michael Mulligan of Leesburg and Dennis Mulligan of North Webster, passed away Friday at 9:20 p.m. Death came at the Parkview hospital in Fort Wayne and was attributed to complications. He had been in failing health for two years. Mr. Mulligan was born to Mikael and Lora (Ross) Mulligan on November 18, 1903 at Arkansas. He was united in marriage to Mary Louise Myers in 1945 and she survives. He had
been a Larwill resident since 1945 and he was retired. Surviving with the widow and two sons are three other sons, James Cook, Fort Wayne, Fred Cook, Pierceton, Thomas Mulligan, at home; six daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Jean) Scheffer, Shelbyville, Mrs. Ernest (Donna) Miller, Fort Wayne, Mrs. Eugene (Patty) Stewart, South Whitley, Mrs. Jack (Kate) Phillips, Pierceton, Mrs. James (Linda) Collier, Warsaw, and Lora Mulligan, at home; 20 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Leora Ehli, Washington, D. C., Sylvia Herman, Fort Wayne, Dorothy Mulligan, West Virginia. He was preceded in death by one sister. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at a Pierceton funeral home with Rev. Fred Rodgers officiating. Interment was in the South Whitley cemetery. Mrs. Charles Searfoss Services were held today (Wednesday) for Mrs. Clara H. Searfoss, 83, Goshen and grandmother of John Searfoss of Syracuse. Death came Sunday afternoon at Greencroft nursing home, Goshen, and was due to complications following an illness of three days. A daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kitson, she was born northeast of Goshen on December 4, 1889. Her husband, Charles Searfoss, passed away in 1939. She was a former employee of Caswell Runyon and Snuggle Products, Goshen, and also worked at the Austin nursing home, Goshen. Mrs. Searfoss was a member of Saint Mark’s Methodist church. She is also survived by one other grandson, Franklin Searfoss of Des Plaines, 111. Lowell C. Sheibley Graveside services were held at Jackson cemetery, Benton, this morning (Wednesday) for Lowell Clem Sheibley, 82, formerly of r 2 Syracuse. Death came at 1 p.m. Sunday at Saint Joseph hospital, Mishawaka and was due to complications. He had been in failing health for three years. Mr. Sheibley was born April 19, 1891 at South Whitley, a son of Wade and Nellie (Merriaman) Sheibley. His marriage to the former Florence Stetler took place March 27, 1925 at Goshen and she preceded him in death in 1970. He moved to the Syracuse community 22 years ago from Detroit where he retired from the Gulf Oil Refinery there. He was a member of Syracuse Masonic

Till/ ACCIDENT WEDNESDAY — Two cars collided on the rain-slick pavement near Milford’s Main street last Wednesday afternoon at 3:47. The accident occurred as both cars were traveling west on Catherine street. The front car, driven by Eustotio L. Zuniga, 29, Milford, stopped suddenly to allow another car to exit from the alley to the west of Main street and was struck from behind by a car driven by Shirley A. Gifford, 36, also of Milford. Mrs. Gifford made an attempt to stop, cut to the right in an attempt to avoid the accident then struck the Zuniga auto. The front fender, hood, grill, bumper and headlights of Mrs. Gifford’s 1972 Mercury Comet was damaged an approximate $1,669. Damages to the rear bumper and light assembly of Zuniga’s 1966 Olds was set at 1150. Damages shown to the side of Zuniga’s auto were caused in another accident earlier in the week. Milford town marshal Don Drake investigated the accident. No injuries were reported and no arrests were made.
