A number of persons attended the annual Lions, Legion, Legion Auxiliary sponsored Halloween festivities last Wednesday night at the Milford junior high school. The grand prize winner was Abe Lincoln, Joni Schultz. Her sister Jacqui, dressed as Petuna Pig, won the most unusual and Kara Zimmerman, a hula dancer, was named most original. Drama club presentation set at WHS Friday night
The Wawasee high school drama club will present three one-act plays at 7:30 this Friday night for its annual fall production. All three plays are being directed by Wawasee students under supervision of drama club co-sponsors Joel Robbins and Alan Zerkel. The presentation, “The Ant Bed” is being directed by Tim Hoppes and concerns jealousy. Starring players will be Ron Diehl, Dawn Price, Jeff Hoerr and Julee Staley. Tim is a drama veteran, not only in roles but backstage and is on the school speech team. Kirk Prickett will direct the play “The Trysting Place”, a comedy written by Indiana’s Booth Tarkington concerning what happens when several people arrange to meet in a corner of a resort hotel lobby, which is not as secluded as they thought. actor for three years in a row for the drama club. He recently starred in an Indiana university summer theater workshop presentation and also won a part in a summer play at Enchanted Hills. He will star in the play, along with Cindy Hyndman, Deb Minear, Scott Berry, Shannon Hall and Mike Silveus. The third play, “Wilbur’s Wild Night” is also a comedy and concerns Wilbur Maxwell, his parents and two sisters. Capable Mike Grotz will direct this presentation, after getting his start with the club two years ago and was elected best actor last year in the drama club’s presentation of Dracula. He also played in a role at Enchanted Hills playhouse this past summer. Star players will be Craig Koble, Larry Allen, Kim Hamilton, Melinda Tom, Karen Miller, Greg Fidler, Jeff Auer and Ann Brice.

Charles Baldwin to tour Kansas and Oklahoma McPHERSON, Kan. — Chuck Baldwin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Baldwin of Syracuse, is a member of the 75-piece TriCollege band of Tabor, Bethel and McPherson colleges that will tour Kansas and Oklahoma high schools and junior colleges November 8-13. Beginning with concerts at Bethel and Tabor, the band will present programs of light popular tunes and program music at the following places: Garden City junior college, Ulysses high school, Southwestern Heights high school (Plains, Kan.), Turpin (Okla.) high school, Pratt junior college and Hutchinson Community junior college. Baldwin, a sophomore at McPherson, plays the trombone.

By MRS. OSCAR BJELLA Children’s book week will be celebrated November 12 through November 18. The story hour on November 14 will feature a magic show by our own “Mr. Magic” Todd Eyer. A fifth grade student in the Syracuse school, Todd has appeared at the library on one other occasion. On Friday, Nov. 16, a special puppet show “Little Red Riding Hood” will be presented for the pre-schoolers of the area by Mrs. John Roth, Mrs. Don Yeargain, Mrs. John Rose and Mrs. Jerry deSomer, all members of the Primary Mothers club at Syracuse. This is open to all preschoolers and will start at 12:30. Both programs promise to be very entertaining and our own local talent has gone to much work to present these shows, so be sure and be here if possible. Ball State to offer graduate course at WHS The Ball State university office of continuing education at Fort Wayne will offer the graduate course EDRDG 510 “The Teaching of Reading in the Elementary School” at Warsaw in the winter quarter. The course yields 4-quarter hours of graduate credit and involves the appraisal of the elementary school reading program in terms of principles, practices and problems involved in the instructional program. Sixteen preregistrations are needed before the class can be established. All classes are from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., one night a week for 11 weeks. Pre-registrations may be made by mail by contacting the Ball State university, office of continuing education, 4410 Executive Blvd., Fort Wayne 46808. North Webster junior high to present musical “Music From Musicals” is the theme of the program to be [resented at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 9, by the combined junior high band, orchestra and chorus of North Webster junior high school. The program will be in the school auditorium. The band and chorus will be under the direction of Charles Scott and James DeLoy will direct the orchestra. Return from three years in Germany Mr. and Mrs. Arden F. Betts (the former Patricia Louise Grenard) and daughters, Theresa, three, and Melissa, 16 months, are now visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Miller at r 1 Syracuse. The Betts family is on leave following a three year tour of duty in Germany where he was with the army. The family will go to Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., the end of November where Mr. Betts will be stationed.
