Rock-A-Thon set November I*2 by youth of Church of God
The youth of the North Webster Church of God will hold a Rock-A-Thon lasting from 10 a.m. November 1 until 10 a.m. November 2. The event will be held in the church fellowship hall and will involve approximately 20 young people rocking in rocking chairs. The rocking youngsters will be sponsored, at 25 cents per hour, by any interested person. The group is hoping to raise funds to attend the Church of God state

youth convention in Indianapolis November 9 through 11. Children in grades six through 12 will be participating in the event. Singspiration The church will observe youth week by inviting young people from other area churches to a “singspiration” on November 1. Dave Bockman from Anderson college will present the program as part of the evening’s en-
tainment. Recent Trip On October 20 the Church of God youth took a trip to Turkey Run state park. The day was spent picnicing and hiking. Barbee Busy Bees have Halloween party, wiener roast A Halloween party and wiener roast highlighted the October meeting of the Barbee Busy Bees home extension club. A carry-in supper was served and games were played. Officers of the 71 home extension club of Mentone were special guests. A paper bag auction of Halloween items was held. It was announced the club has adopted a patient at a local nursing home. Members are requested to take items of canned goods to the next meeting. The food will be donated to a needy family during the holiday season. Mrs. Arthelma Marvin was hostess for the evening.
Tippecanoe club entertained by Mrs. Boyer The Tippecanoe Township home extension club met October 24 in the home of Mrs. Sam Boyer <xi r 1 Leesburg. Mrs. Ton Willman assisted the hostess. Margaret Welker, treasurer, was in charge of the morning business session due to the absence of the regular president, Mrs. Ray Biltz. Mrs. Rue Hunnicut, garden chairman, discussed the care of Christmas cactus plants and the proper way to prepare your garden for winter. Mrs. Boyer and Mrs. Floyd Cleaver were presented birthday gifts from their secret pals. Mrs. Russell Mickley gave the citizenship report. She discussed Armistice day and read a poem honoring the American flag. Mrs. Robert D. Williamson,
vice president, presided during the election of officers. The new officers are as follows: Opal Esch — president Martha Kussmaul — vice president Mrs. Louis Gee — secretary Mrs. T. D. Reynolds — assistant secretary Margaret Welker,— treasurer Following the noon carry-in luncheon a white elephant sale was held. Mrs. Hunnicut gave a report mi the county home extension club bus trip to the covered bridge festival held last week at Rockville. The next meeting will be November 17 in the home of Mrs. Albert Hamman, North Webster. Barbee church has hayride A hayride and wiener roast was enjoyed on October 20 by the congregation of the Barbee Community church. Games were played and hot chocdate served fdlowing the hayride. Approximately 70 persons
attended the festivities. Other Activities Dr. Ivan Frence, Grace college, was guest speaker at the Sunday evening services on October 21 at the church. His sermon topic was “Christian Witnessing.” A carry-in dinner and get acquainted fellowship was held October 28 following the Sunday morning service at the church. Rev. Joe Talley and family of North Carolina were special guests at the dinner. Mrs. Snapp dies Oct. 7 Word has been received by friends and neighbors that Mrs. Clysta J. Snapp, 73, passed away October 7 at a Wabash nursing home. Mrs. Snapp formerly resided on r 1 Leesburg. She is survived by a son, Delbert, Wabash; one sister; and one brother. Burial was in Grant Memorial cemetery, Marion.

, 0 *23slH ®*Hi iiiii 9 > , - * Mb * • 9 «B SHIPWRECKED ON TOUR — James and Vera Kitson of Syracuse have returned safely to Syracuse after having a seven day tour cruise to the Virgin Islands shortened two days when their boat was shipwrecked. The couple left Miami, Fla., aboard the Boheme and sailed for two days to Santa Domingo (where the sailing was extra rough due to hurricane Gilda) then on to Saint Thomas and Puerto Rico where the accident occurred. The tour group never made Haiti and was flown back to the states on a DC 10. The ship above was the Boheme which was rammed by the Swift Arrow freighter at Seatrain’s Isla Grande dock. Authorities reported only one passenger was injured of the 354 aboard.
Bob Pifer president of youth Bob Pifer was elected president of the North Webster Youth League during the October board meeting. Also elected were: Phil Cripe — vice president Jim Green — secretarytreasurer Mrs. Jack Mort will represent the newly instituted girls youth league program. It was announced that another board member will be appointed in the spring and that sprinklers will be installed at the ball park mi November 3. Retiring officers are: Harry Minnick, president; Mark Minnick, vice president; and Jack Rhoades, secretarytreasurer. Jack Cripe speaks to Kiwanis Guest speaker at the October 22 meeting of the Lakeland Kiwanis dub was Jack Cripe, director of special education for the Lakeland school corporation. He discussed the matter in which school corporations could cooperate in organizing special education programs for the handicapped. Dale Bitting, Albert Loutenhiser, George Hogg and A. Lee Shoemaker, all <rf Columbia City, were in attendance. John Clear and Keith Smallwood were assigned to the boys and girls committee and the “Give of Yourself” committee. Efficient club meeting held in James Kline home Mrs. James Kline of r 3 Syracuse was hostess for the recent meeting of Efficient Homemakers home extension club. Mrs. Jack Lewallen assisted the hostess. Mrs. N. R. Niles presented a lesson on the new food labeling laws. Roll call response was “a fear I would like to overcome.” Mrs. Ira Nine gave the meditations. Plans are being made for the dub anniversary dinner to be held in November.

Sgt. Ronald Kiser graduates from NCO academy SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — U. S. air force master sergeant Ronald L. Kiser, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Kiser, North Webster, has graduated with honors at Norton AFB, Calif., from the military airlift command noncommissioned officer academy at Norton AFB, Calif. Sergeant Kiser, who received advanced military leadership and management training, is a C--141 Starlifter flight engineer at Norton, with the 14th military airlift squadron. A 1956 graduate of North Webster high school, the sergeant attended Merced (Calif.) junior college. His wife is the former Jean E. Carpenter. Senior Citizens hold October dinner-meeting Members of the Turkey Creek Senior Citizens held a dinnermeeting Thursday night in the Syracuse fire station meeting room followed by a short business meeting with president James Hamman presiding. 1 The president introduced Theodore Grindle of Syracuse who presented the evening program. James Gilbert was welcomed as a new member. Mrs. Grindle was a guest. Plans were completed for members to attend a Thanksgiving dinner at North Webster on November 15. A social hour followed for the 20 members and two guests in attendance. The Turkey Creek Senior Citizens group is an agent of United Fund.
