Linda Young and Donald Nyce, Jr., wed October 20
Linda Diane Young became the bride of Donald L. Nyce, Jr., on October 20 in the home of Rev. L. E. Foudy, r 3 Syracuse. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Young of r 3 Syracuse. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Nyce, also of r 3 Syracuse. Sue Nyce, sister of the Hursey-Stout vows are exchanged Miss Cynthia Hursey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hursey of Cromwell, became the bride of Steven Stout, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sherril Stout of North Webster, at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27. The bride is a secretary with Royal Imports Corp., Ligonier and the bridegroom is employed with Barth at Milford. The couple will make residence at North Webster. On Saturday, Nov. 3, a reception is being planned for the young couple at The M & M restaurant in North Webster and all friends of the newlyweds are welcome to attend. Wednesday club holds guest day John Naab of Syracuse presented the informative program for the meeting last week of the Wenesday Afternoon club at Syracuse which was also guest day. Mrs. Ray Jones of Dewart Lake was hostess for the day. The speaker told of a wooded area purchased by the Lakeland school corporation across the road from the high school football field which was made into a nature trail. He added the area was cleared and markers put up for young people interested in learning the trees and plants. The local school system has programs on environment and concepts overlapping into several fields of education and Naab displayed several books used in this new concept of education. Mrs. James Kline and Mrs. Stan Emerick served refreshments to club members, associate member Mrs. Deloss Weaver and guests, Mrs. Ray Buhrt, Mrs. Velma Clapp, Mrs. Paul Kline, Mrs. Naab, Mrs. Dale LeCount, Mrs. Charles Lehman, Mrs. Lamar Stoops and Mrs. A. L. Miller. Mrs. Peter Blue will be hostess for the next meeting on November 7.

Rita Jo, to Richard Alan, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Currier of r 1 Burr Oak, Mich. The bride-elect is a 1973 graduate of Wawasee high school and is employed as a secretary at Vega Corporation in Syracuse. Her fiance is a 1971 graduate of Burr Oak high school and is an employee of Currier Disposal. An October 1974 wedding is being planned. Lu-Ta-Lo-La Camp Fire group meets By SUSAN NAAB On Wednesday, Oct. 24, our Camp Fire group had a Halloween party. There were seven Camp Fire girls and five girls brought guests. We had all kinds of games to play and all of the girls had a good time. Julie Bushwig and Susan Naab brought refreshments. Even some of the guests decided to join! Craft club meets in Miles home Mrs. Nelson Miles was hostess last week to 15 members of the Syracuse Craft club. The afternoon was spent in making wooden wall plaques decorated with pine cones, afterwhich refreshments were served by the hostess. Mrs. Joe Rapp will entertain for the next club meeting.

Rogers-Byrd engagement is announced The engagement of Miss Mindy Rogers, to Michael Byrd, is announced by her mother, Mrs. Jean Rogers of North Shore drive, Syracuse Lake. Miss Rogers ■ attended Wawasee high school and is employed with Ligonier Rubber Company at Ligonier. Her fiance, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Byrd, 713 South 4th street, Syracuse, graduated from Wawasee high school and is employed with Sea Nymph at Syracuse. The wedding will take place on December 8 in Calvary United Methodist church south of Syracuse. Legion auxiliary meets Tuesday Wawasee Unit 223, American Legion Auxiliary, Syracuse, met on October 23 with president Mrs. Bill Eyer presiding. Mrs. Eyer read a notice regarding the second district meeting set for 10 a.m. on November 14 at Pierceton. Mrs. Georgia Buster read a note of appreciation from the Fort Wayne Veterans hospital for books the unit had sent to the veterans there and read a list of wants and needs of veterans including craft supplies for patients in the hobby shop. Mrs.. Rosemary LeCount, Knightstown chairman, reported information received on the local unit’s adopted boy for the year. It was reported that a 30-year charter member, Mrs. Antoinette Landis, had passed away and the charter was draped in her memory. Hostesses for the evening were Mrs. Ishmael Rookstool, Mrs. Charles Dean, Mrs. Rolland Wogoman and Mary Jane Deardorff. Helen Howard heads Republican Women's club The article appearing in last week’s paper naming Helen Goshert as the new women’s GOP leader was incorrect. Helen Howard is the new president of the organization and Helen Goshert is treasurer. Jean Messmore is the assistant treasurer. HERMAN MILLERS ENTERTAIN FRIDAY Guests of Mr. and Mrs.- Herman Miller of near Milford on Friday evening in honor of their birthdays were Mr. and Mrs. Howard McDonald and Mr. and Mrs. Woody Slabaugh of Nappanee, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Greenwait and Mr. and Mrs. 0. P. Ganshorn of Etna Green. The group had supper at a restaurant west of Goshen then returned to the Miller home for a social evening. Birthday cake, ice cream and coffee were served. That’s For Sure! Colorful fruit and little cake squares layered with jam complement the velvety texture of the pudding. English Trifle 1 package (3 oz.) egg custard mix 2‘/ 2 cups milk 8-inch sponge cake layer !/ z cup raspberry jam 1 can (17 oz.) sliced peaches 1 cup heavy cream Prepare custard mix as directed on package, using 2Vi cops milk. Cool */ 2 hour, stirring occasionally. Split cake, fill with jam, cut into small pieces. Drain peaches and dunk cake in syrup. Carefully layer the cake, peaches, and custard in serving dish, ending with custard. Whip cream; spoon on top. Decorate prettily. Makes 8 servings.

Round Table ladies hear Father Potts Mrs. James Alford was hostess for the Monday night meeting of the Ladies of the Round Table dub at Syracuse with 16 members and two guests present. and beginnings of the school. He told of the school changes through the years and plans for future expansion. Father Potts discussed what the school attempts to give the students and what it expects from the students in return. During a question and answer period, several things that members of the Syracuse community might do to help the school, its program and the students were discussed. The next dub meeting will be November 19 in the home of Mrs. John Naab. Busy Bees attend Ice show Oct. 27 Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Moneyheffer, Mr. and Mrs. Doral McFarren and Kathy, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Miller and Lynette, Mrs. Irma Chambers, all of Milford; and Mrs. Ralph Tobias of Nappanee; and Mrs. James Om of Fort Wayne had a 6 p.m. dinner at a Fort Wayne restaurant on October 27 then attended the Holiday on Ice review. Ferverda girls see Ice Follies Kay and Judy Ferverda enjoyed the Ice Follies at Fort Wayne Saturday afternoon. The trip was part of their winnings from participating in the dairy showmanship competition at the county fair. The group they were with enjoyed a smorgasbord dinner after the show. RETURN FROM KNOXVILLE TRIP Mr. and Mrs. Steve Bornman of Syracuse spent several days last week in Knoxville, Tenn., attending a business convention. While there, they toured Gatlinburg and the Smokey Mountains. The Bornman children spent the week with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Morehouse of Milford.
Church of God WCSC holds meeting The Women’s Christian Service council of the Syracuse Church of God held its October meeting at the home of Mrs. William Stutzman with Mrs. Jerry Stutzman as co-host ess. The new president, Mrs. Oliver Hibschman, opened the meeting and introduced the new theme for the ensuing year: “Who... Me?” This is the 20th anniversary of the WCSC, which was instituted by Mrs. Grace Pierson of Altoona, Pa. The Descending Dove (the Dove being the symbol of the Holy Spirit) was adopted as the permanent symbol fa* the WCSC at the national workshop at Findlay, Ohio, in August of this year. The ‘Key’ is the annual symbol for 1973-74. The new theme song, “Let the Lord Have His Way” was sung followed by prayer by Mrs. Jack Elam. There were 18 members responding to roll afterwhich thank you barrels were distributed. Offerings to this have amounted to $235,193.88 during the last 20 years in the national WCSC. Installs The president installed Mrs. Walter Burcham as chairlady of the promotion and publicity committee. Reports were then given by each chairlady. New business included drawing names of secret pals, choosing prayer partners, furnishing meals for two shut-ins, a work day each month with the first being on November 14 and special prayer for tlie revival at the church November 4-11. Plans were announced for the annual Thanksgiving supper November 15 with Rev. Yung S. Chai of Kendallville as speaker. Mrs. Roger Kern, Mrs. William Stutzman, Mrs. Art Wagner and Mrs. Lee Adams will serve on the decorating committee. Turkey, ham and beverages are furnished by the church, this being an entire church affair, with each family bringing a basket of food. Program Program of the day was a playlet entitled, “Who... Me... a Stewardess?” The purpose was to challenge memtiers to launch into service by opening doors of hope to others. Cast members were Mrs. Charles Richcreek Mrs. Everett Edgar, Mrs. Wagner, Mrs. Kern, Mrs. Elam, Mrs. JeraldSeqrist and Mrs. Gary Firestone. The friendship circle was formed and the WCSC benediction given. This was followed by refresioments served by the hostesses.

Annual 4-H awards program is held
The Community Hands and Tomorrows Homemakers 4-H clubs held their annual awards program last Thursday evening at the Syracuse junior high school. Dennis Darr opened the meeting and the American pledge was given by Tim Hursey. Lynette Miller honored on 13th birthday Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Miller of near Milford entertained in the honor of the 13th birthday of their daughter Lynette on Sunday. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Ben Miller and daughter, Mrs. Royce Mason and Jennifer, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Miller and Clifford, Mr. and Mrs. Manas Miller and Sandra, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Mishler and Garry Miller. Lee Cory is honored on 82d birthday Mr. and Mrs. Neal Cory entertained at dinner on Sunday in honor of Lee R. Cory who was celebrating his 82d birthday that day. Other guests present were Mr. and Mrs. Walter S. Miller, Miss Donna Miller and Mrs. Fred Weisser, Doug, Greg, Brad and Kathy. The Busy Bees meet in Miller home October 17 The Busy Bee club of Milford met October 17 in the country home of Mrs. Herman Miller. Mrs. Miller carried the Halloween theme in her decorations and refreshments. A highlight of the evening was when a ghost person came to the house and treated each member with a treat. Mrs. Delbert Moneyheffer read “God is Real” for meditations. Mrs. Caroline Butrick gave a lesson on making delightful notes on Christmas cards. The club decided to invite husbands and guests to a dinner in Fort Wayne and later attend the Holiday on Ice show.

Brian Roberts led in the 4-H pledge. Presentation of pins were made by 4-H leaders, Mrs. Robert Busch and Stanley Hoopingamer. Camp awards went to Roberta Busch and Tim Butt. Alternates were Doreen Darr and Jeff Beezley. The girls’ achievement award was presented Rebecca Busch and Mark Grady received the boys’ achievement award. These awards are sponsored by the Syracuse Lions club. Program for the evening was by teen-caravaner Leta Stickler. Leta lived in Denmark this past summer through a 4-H program. She showed slides of her visit. Enrollment night for the 4H’ers will be at 7:30 p.m. on November 7 at the school.
