Previously, only Warsaw and Pierceton have been listed as first class schools in the county. Dr. Nicholas Mac Cripe, son of Mrs. Eva Edwards of Syracuse, has been appointed head of the speech department in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Butler university, Indianapolis. Miss Jean Connell, daughter of Mrs. James Connell of Syracuse, was united in marriage to Orville A. Knisely Saturday, Sept. 19 at 7:30 o’clock in the Methodist church. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Knisely of Columbia City. The Syracuse high school baseball team won its third straight game Friday by defeating Leesburg 6-2. The first Union Service of this pastoral year will be held Sunday, Sept. 27, at 7:30 p.m. The Calvary United Brethren church is to be the host church for the evening. Mr. and Mrs. Christian Koher and family were guests Sunday of Dr. and Mrs. George Warner of Goshen. 45 YEARS AGO, SEPT. 27,1928 Sealed proposals fa* the improvement of Brooklyn and First streets were received Tuesday night at a special meeting of the town board. Only three bids were received. The fire department was called to the home of Fred Stetler on Wednesday afternoon where a small blaze had started on the roof of the house. However, the blaze was extinguished before the fire laddies arrived. The Junior Ladies of the Round Table club met at the hone of Miss Henrietta Brunjes last Thursday evening and enjoyed a bountiful pot luck supper. Enrollment in the Kosciusko county schools for the year 192829, just opened, is 4,987 in all grades, according to figures compiled in the office of the county superintenndent of schools. The Pythian Sisters will meet at the Castle Hall Friday, Sept. 28. All officers and members-are requested to be present. Mr. and Mrs. Jud Searfoss and Mrs. and Mrs. Arthur Weaver spent over Sunday in Michigan visiting friends. Joni Denney returns home from Germany Joni Denney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Avery, Syracuse, spent two months in Stuttgart, Germany visiting with Capt. and Mrs. Bryce Slabaugh and family. Senior Citizens honored at dinner Monday A number of area residents attended a carry-in dinner Monday, Sept. 24, at the Shrine building at the fairgrounds in Warsaw. The dinner was fa senia citizens and was sponsored by the Kosciusko County Council fa the Aging and Aged. Ed Lewis of Grace college presented a musical program. The, speaker was C. o Luther Brostrom, Indianapolis, the social service and program coadinator of the State Commission on Aging and Aged. Also on the pre gram was Rev. Ed McCance, famerly the pasta of the First Presbyterian church in Warsaw, who recently founded a center for senior citizens in Indianapolis. Other guests were: Maya and Mrs. Mike Hodges; Representative Thames Mauzy; and representatives from Miller’s Merry Manor, Alfran nursing home and Prairie View nursing home. Attending from Syracuse were: James Hamman, Mrs. Blanche Bates, Mrs. Mabel Walton, Agnes Stiffler and Mrs. Georgia Buster. Those from Milford present were: Amanda Davisson and Rebecca Ross.
