Tom, 17, r 2 Leesburg, who passed away Saturday ,at 1:35 a.m. Death was due to injuries received in a car-truck collision on August 1 near Wakarusa. Kevin was born to Mr. and Mrs. Everett Tom, Jr., on June 25,1956 at Leesburg. He was a member of the senior class at Wawasee high school, was a member of the orchestra, member of the 4-H club, was in FFA, a member of the Living Gospel church of Nappanee and a member of the singing group, the Reborn Delegation. Eby, r 4 Goshen; and one great-grandfather, Guy Fisher of r 2 Milford. Services were conducted at a Nappanee church with Rev. Otto Beer, Jr., officiating. Interment was in the Leesburg cemetery. - Lewis E. Horn Funeral services were held Sunday, Sept. 23, at the North Webster United Methodist church with Rev. John Weeks officiating for Lewis E Horn, 74, r 1 North Webster. Horn, a retired U. S. Army major, died of complications following an illness of several years at 8:10 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the Veterans Administration hospital at Fort Wayne. Born January 12, 1899 in Kosciusko county to Joseph and Loretta (Fawley) Hom, he was married to the former Marie Schultz in 1921. They moved to North Webster from Fort Wayne 12 years ago. He was a veteran of World War 11, a 50 year member of Sol D. Bayless Lodge 359 at Eort Wayne and American Legion Post 253 at North Webster. Surviving along with the widow are one daugher, Mrs. George (Lola) Lantz, Fort Wayne, three grandchildren; .and one greatgrandchild. Mary Schuman A private memorial service was held for Mrs. Mary (Lyon) Schuman, 59, 707 Grand street Ligonier, Friday at 2 p.m. Rev. Leonard Phelps conducted the service in the Ligonier Presbyterian church. Mrs. Schuman died in Goshen hospital Wednesday at 5:10 p.m. following a stroke suffered two days earlier. She was the
daughter of Graham and Athol (Briggs) Lyon and had spent her entire lifetime in Ligonier and Wawasee areas. She married Lyle E. Schuman on June 28, 1941 in Ligonier. He survives along with a son, Kenneth E. Schuman of Ligonier; a daughter, Mrs. Pablo (Carol Ann) Casado, Chapel Hill, N. C.; two grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Jack (Barbara) Schreck of Fort Wayne. Burial was in Oak Park cemetery at Ligonier. Rex Hunt Word has been received of the death of Rex Hunt, Arcadia, formerly of North Webster. Death occurred in an Arcadia hospital Saturday, Sept. 22. He had been ill for several years. Surviving are his wife, Agnes (Buster) Hunt; a son, Robert, Arcadia; a daugher, Mrs. Edward (Lauretta) Knauer; and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 24, in Arcadia. Bert F. Roberts, Sr. Funeral services were held Tuesday in Pierceton for Bert F. Roberts, Sr., 91, Pierceton. Mr. Roberts died of complications Saturday morning following an illness of one week. Death came at 11:50 in the Parkview hospital at Fort Wavne. A lifetime resident of the Pierceton area, he was a retired farmer and factory worker. A veteran of the Spanish-American war, he attended the Baptist The deceased was born on March 13, 1882 in Switzerland county, the son of Napoleon and Margaret (Osborne) Roberts. On October 25, 1905 he was married to Agnes Conroy. She died in 1969. Surviving are four sons, Leroy of Fort Wayne, Walter of Leesburg, Bertram of Oswego and Robert of Warsaw; two daughters, Mrs. Don (Maxine) Metzger of North Manchester and Mrs. Jesse (Donna) Firestone of Quincy, Mich.; two sisters; one brother; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grand-children; and two great-great-grandchildren. Rev. Henry Uhrick officiated at the services. Burial was in Oakwood cemetery. Claude H. Coppes Claude H. Coppes, 83, Lake Wawasee, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 4:30 p.m. at home. He was born September 27,1889 in Nappanee and resided in that town for 71 years before moving to Lake Wawasee in 1960. He was a summer resident of the lake since 1893. Mr. Coppes was a 1911
graduate in engineering of the University of Michigan. Upon graduation, he joined the family firm of Coppes, Inc., in Nappanee, serving in many capacitites, becoming president of the firm in 1939, then chairman of the board in 1956. He held this position until his retirement in 1969. Mr. Coppes was a founding and lifetime member of the Nappanee American Legion post 154, becoming its first commander and later was elected third district commander. He served as a first lieutenant of artillery in World War I, having joined in the first group of volunteers from Elkhart county. A charter member of the Nappanee Kiwanis club, he served in various capacities, including president in 1925 and later as district governor. He was also a member and past president of the Nappanee school board and a member of the Elcona country club. On May 14,1918 he was joined in marriage to Harriett Starr of Goshen. She survives along with a son, David Starr Coppes of Lake Wawasee; five grandchildren; and one greatgrandchild. Friendss may call at the YoderCulp funeral home in Goshen from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Saint James Episcopal church in Goshen where he was a member. Rev. Robert J. Goode will officiate. Burial will be in Violett cemetery at Goshen. Family members request that memorial contributions be made to the Elkhart or Kosciusko county United Funds in lieu of flowers. Births PEACE, Joshua Tabbot Mr. and Mrs. Tim Peace of Syracuse became the parents of their first child, a son named Joshua Tabbot, at 11:10 a.m. Saturday. The young man weighted seven pounds, 8% ounces when he arrived at the Goshen hospital. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. George Lehman of r 1 Milford. Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Howard Peace of r 4 Syracuse. < HEARN, Elizabeth Anne Mr. and Mrs. R. Steven Hearn, r 2 Syracuse, are the parents of a daughter, Elizabeth Anne, born at 11:58 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, in the Goshen hospital. Acton of Brookston became the parents of a daughter, Rachel Ann, at 5:03 p.m. last Wednesday. The new little lass weighed seven pounds, 10 ounces and measured 19 inches long when she arrived at the Saint Elizabeth hospital in Lafayette. He has been in ill health since suffering a stroke three years ago. Dale Heath of Milford remains a patient at the Lu heran hospital in Fort Wayne where he underwent surgery on September 18. He is presently in the intensive care unit of the hospital and is expected tc remain there for two or three more days. All cards may be directed to the Lutheran hospital, Fort Wayne. OLD HOUSE COMES DOWN — The removal of an old house on East Chicago avenue, Syracuse, was done in quick order last Wednesday morning under the claws of the big bucket of a piece of heavy equipment belonging to Beer and Slabaugh. The house was recently purchased from Ralph Oyler by Bernieee Klink. Mrs. Klink owns a six-acre plot of ground south of this site, and the removal of the house will give her easier access to the plot. i

was southbound in a 1973 Chevrolet on Seventh street when Phyllis Stephenson, 59,,r 1 Bristol drove her 1969 Chevrolet from Washington street into the side of the Markley auto, which then struck a parked 1968 Ford owned by Debbie M. Hizer, 206 S. Seventh street, Goshen. Damage was estimated at a total of $1,200 with no arrests being made. ' Pot luck honors Etna Green man A pot luck supper was held Saturday in honor of the birthday of Kenneth Greenwait of Etna Green in the Greenwait home. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Howard McDonald and Mr. and Mrs. Woody Slabaugh of Nappanee; Mr. and Mrs. A. P.
