COME ONE, come all to the annual fireman’s chicken barbecue ... that’s what everyone is saying in Milford these days. Members of the fire department met last Thursday and decided they would hold their annual barbecue in spite of the fact that chicken is expensive and hard to obtain. Firemen agreed they owed it to the public to continue the traditional fire we?k T barbecue even though they may not make any money on the project this year. The barbecue will be held at the fire station on Sunday, Oct. 7. THE FOLLOWING notation was given to one of our reporters recently: “Watch out for school children — Especially those driving cars.” MR. AND MRS. Wilbur Knepper, Mrs. Ralph Biller and Mrs. Leslie Schoomaker are among those who have taken up bicycle riding as a hobby. Mrs. Biller and Mrs. Schoomaker can be seen each Junorning as they enjoy their bikes. TOWN OFFICIALS found out Monday how to get people to pay their water bills early: Shut the water off in town for a few hours. Monday morning a water main broke and it was necessary for street and water commissioner John Martin to shut off the water to allow for the necessary repairs. During the time the water was off a number of people appeared at the town hall with payment for their current water bill. Even though the final date for payment is next Tuesday it seems many felt their water had been shut off because their bill was unpaid.

His request for a building permit was turned down by Joseph Gray, serving as temporary building commissioner and referred to the board of zoning appeals for clarification on the area the property is in. Building commissioner Ed Anderson will be informed by letter that a building permit may be issued. In other business, attorney Bruce Frey informed the board of his investigation of the state laws governing the number of persons allowed to serve on the board of zoning appeals, based on the population of the town and township. Townsman John Perry asked if the telephone at the park couldn’t be put on a local calls only status. Dr. Miller said he still felt the best idea would be to get a retired or semi-retired couple to live in a trailer across the road from the park on town owned property rent free in "exchange for maintaining the park. This, he feels, would eliminate many problems. Board members will contact the park board in the near future in regards to replacing Troup and finding another board chairman.
