14 YEARS AGO, SEPT. 10,1059 A new coat of white paint has been given the residence of Rev. and Mrs. Carl Sheardr. The Clayton family reunion was held Sunday at Claytonia at Webster Lake with 40 persons in attendance. The Kosciusko county WCTU convention will be held in the First Brethren church in Milford on Friday. Rev. and Mrs. W. Harlan Smith left Tuesday for Elgin, 111., to visit their daughter Helen. A fire of unknown origin did an estimated $35,000 worth of damage at the Tippecanoe Country club early Thursday. BIRTHS: Mr. and Mrs. Donald Kinney, Sr., are the parents of a son, Kevin Ray; Mr. and Mrs. John Michael Tobin are the parents of a daughter, Lori Lee. Rev. John Hartman of Nappanee will be present at the Nazarene church Sunday to speak to the boys and girls immediately following' the Bible class sessions. James Stuckman will speak and show his color slides before the Van Buren-Jefferson Farm Bureau group at the Milford elementary school Tuesday evening. A baseball thrown before Jeff Dippon had his catcher’s equipment on resulted in a cracked hand bone at the index finger knuckle. Charles G. Cripe, 19, was among three Kosciusko county youths who recently enlisted in the air force for four years. 24 YEARS AGO, SEPT. 8,1949 The ever popular Farmer’s Day parade will be held Thursday, Sept. 8, during the Indiana State Fair. Bill Haab was the victim of an accident Friday afternoon when he had his left thumb cut off at the second joint while working on the Earl Wolferman farm. Arthur Kline has accepted a teaching position at the Pickford, Mich., high school and began his duties there this week. An impressive installation service for the new officers of the American Legion Auxiliary was conducted in the legion hall Tuesday evening. The tomato crop around Milford will have them all topped for another year according to Don Cecil. The Turkey Creek Homebuilders club met Wednesday evening for a family night pot luck supper at the home of ’Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Fox. The thirteen coaches of Kosciusko county met last Thursday at the teachers’ institute and made their plans for the coming softball season. Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Milthaler of Dayton, Ohio, were week end guests of Mrs. E. R. Hurd. Thirty boys and girls were present at a birthday party on Monday for Paula Jean Deeter of Leesburg. The Milford Parent Teachers association will meet at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the school house. A new street light was added last week to the row of lights on Main street. 30 YEARS AGO, SEPT. 9,1943 BIRTHS: Mr. and Mrs. Hershel Dinkledine are the parents of a son, David Alan; Mr. and Mrs. Merle Holderread are the parents of a daughter, Jean Louise; Corp, and Mrs. Glenn Price are the parents of a son, Glenn Eugene, Jr. Dr. John J. DeFries, who received the doctor of medicine degree from the Indiana university school of medicine, will serve his internship with the Indianapolis city hospital. Charlene Fuller returned on Wednesday from several weeks of vacation in Knoxville, Tenn., and the Great Smoky Mountains. Pvt. Howard Fuller is spending this week with his mother and other relatives. Mrs. Samuel Hartter was hostess to 18 members of the Woman’s Missionary society of the First Brethren church last Thursday afternoon. The Nappanee public library board has secured Miss Helen Watkins for librarian. The Columbia Reading circle members will meet Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Elsie Overleese. Mr. and Mrs. Amos Om have received word that their son Darrell has received his rating of corporal. IM. Raymond Custer, MP is spending a furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Custer. The members of the senior class of Milford received their class rings and class pins Tuesday. 40 YEARS AGO, SEPT. 7,1933 BiUy McDonald returned last
week to his home here from Chicago where he had been employed. Earl Wolferman who attended the Elkhart county fair Thursday afternoon purchased one of the prize steers they had on exhibit. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Brown of Redman Park, Dewart Lake, left for Indianapolis Tuesday where they will make their home. Two more moving pictures will be shown on the Main street here this season. Mrs. Noble Miller, who is employed at the local garment factory, sewed through her finger Friday morning while operating one of the power machines. Robert Groves, who for the past year operated the Standard Oil station on road 15 north of town, has taken over a service station in Morocco.

John Whybrew treated after motorcycle wrecks John Whybrew, 21, r 1 Syracuse, was treated for neck pains after losing control of his motorcycle on CR 550 N, one mile east of Oswego and sideswiping a utility pole. The accident occurred at 8:48 p.m. Thursday. The motorcycle crashed into a plowed field and caught fire. Damage was set at SBOO.

Announce new auto dealership at Syracuse Harry Appenzeller is announcing a new Dodge auto dealership in Syracuse to be known as Lakeland Motens, at 401 South Huntington street. He is being joined in a partnership with his two sons, Jan and BiU, who are now operating a tire agency and auto repair service at the same location. Mr. Appenzeller says plans are to build a 40 by 50 addition extending the shop area to the south, with entrance to the garage being on Dolan Drive. He had a Dodge, Chrysler and Plymouth agency at the same location from 1963 to 1966, which he sold to Ernest Rogers, and which was later closed out. Hollar of Milford was among more than 200 faring people who attended a “Hog Farmer’s Forum to Marrie Olde England” last week. The forum was sponsored by a Milwaukee magazine. The conference consisted of special seminars and tours, including a judging contest of three British breeds of hogs at a testing station north of London, visiting the National Agricultural Centre and trips to working hog farms in the English countryside. The farm people flew to London on a special chartered jet and stayed at the London Tara Hotel,
