daughter, Monique, 3, and a son, Justin, 9 months. A NICE letter of thanks received from Craig Tucker for the purchase of his animal at the 4-H livestock auction at the fair. He said the animal is “loaded with red meat,” and should be good eating. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Tucker, Craig writes, “We bred and raised this steer on our farm. He was a Limousin-Angus cross. The Limousin is a new breed in the U.S., known as the “carcass breed” because of the outstanding carcasses. A Limousin-Angus cross was Grand Champion at the Illinois state fair this year, also winning many shows in Colorado, Nebraska and South Dakota. “Without a doubt,” Craig writes,” you will be the first to eat a Limousin steak in Milford! ” Craig is now at Purdue where he plans to pursue a course in the veterinary field.
CHOIRS MUST be the thing of the fall as the United Methodist church, is exploring the possibilities of a youth choir and the Christian church is organizing a choir for teenagers and young adults. The UM choir is for students in grades five-eight and will be directed by Mrs. T. A. Miller. The choir at the Christian church will be directed by Dick Fehnel. REMEMBER the scroll the youth of the Calvary UM church brought to Milford a few weeks back. The local church is preparing to deliver (if they haven’t already) it to Leesburg. THE MILFORD Senior Citizens will be going to the nuclear plant in Michigan on Sunday, Sept. 9. They will leave the fire station at 12 noon. Those wishing to go should contact Harold Young. HOW ABOUT that beautiful Labor Day week end! Everyone but everyone who owns a camper was off for one last fling before settling down for the new school year. —o— i MR. AND Mrs. Noble Fisher of Milford flew to New York Saturday for the wedding of their daughter, Earleen and Nick Tatro. On Saturday afternoon Nick and Noble attended a ball game at Yankee stadium. The New York Yankees played the Baltimore Orioles. In the evening they all enjoyed an India-Pakistani dinner. The Fishers returned to Milford Monday p.m. We should end the story there but can’t resist the fact they were delayed four hours in Cleveland on that rtfturn flight and Mr. and Mrs. Oliver (“Bud”) Replogle were “stuck” at the South Bend airport all that time. While in that northern state Bud played in a golf tourney with brother-in-law James Barnes with Barnes walking off with top honors for the day. AS WE HEAR it Cynthia Bucher will be leaving Indiana the end of this month to spend the winter in Florida with an aunt. Seed cleaning operation begins By DONALD E. FRANTZ County Extension Coordinator The seed cleaners operated by the Kosciusko County Seed Improvement association began cleaning and treating seed wheat September 3. Dates for the first week of the month are: Turkey Creek, September 3; Van Buren, September 4; Harrison, September 4; Plain and Tippecanoe, September 6; Wayne, September 6; Washington and Prairie, September 7. Residents on the east side of the county wanting cleaning service should contact Arthur Kinsey. Persons on the west side should contact either Emra Stookey or Don Clase. ;

Nursery school registration Nursery school will be held at the United Methodist church in North Webster Monday through Friday. Registration will begin Thursday evening, Sept. 13, and Friday morning, September 14. Mrs. Pardee Gunter who has taught three years in the Pierceton elementary schools has been engaged as the new director. She took her undergraduate work at Grace college and received her masters degree at Indiana university at Fort Wayne. Any child from three to five years of age may be registered and may choose two. three or five days a week. Fortresses observe golden anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Orian J. Fortress will observe the 50th anniversary of their wedding at a ceremony repeating vows on Saturday, Sept. 8, at 2:30 at the United Methodist church in North Webster. Orian’s father who officiated at the wedding will come from Jackson, Mich., to perform this ceremony. A reception will be keld at Epworth Forest follovwig the ceremony. Conway diet reopening Last year’s response to the Conway Diet program held at the North Webster United Methodist church was encouraging and the program will be repeated. The first session is scheduled September 11 at 7:30 p.m. and , meetings will be held in the first and second grade class room. Everyone interested is invited. United Methodist music programs announced The music program for the junior choir and primary choir of the United Methodist church for the ensuing year will get underway with practice meeting scheduled Thursday, Sept. 16, right after school. God’s Children will sing for both services at the North Webster church September 9. They will be at the Trinity United Methodist church, Fort Wayne, September 20 and September 23 at the Good Shepherd church in Elkhart. Family dinner honors West Virginia couple Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Haskin entertained last Sunday with a family dinner in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Roberts of Huntington, W. Va. Lakeland Kiwanis announce travelogue series at Wawasee Opening prayer was offered by Ray Finkbiner at the regular meeting of Lakeland Kiwanis club. An inter-club from Rochester included Myron Burkhouser, Sheldon Sherard, Dr. Dale Berkepile, Lloyd Jeffries. Other guests present were D. W. Grossman, Knightstown; J. W. In announcing the opening of the travelogue series, president Jerry Badskey described the program as the Kiwanis “biggest project” of the year and the best entertainment bargain in north Indiana. He discussed communication by many means including body language, a look, a smile, a kiss, a sign. He further discussed how attitudes affect communication and how cummunication affects human relations and various related problems and solutions. COMMUNITY NEWS Randy Grimes, Gregg Spry and Amanda Grimes spent last week end at Cedar Point amusement park. Other local residents enjoying such an outing before the opening of school included the Feller boys, Rod and Doug whose parents accompanied them last Wednesday to Cedar Point. —NWVandermarks observe 50th anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Condict E. Vandermark ’of Leesburg celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, Sept. 2, at a North Webster restaurant. Family members present were Mr. and Mrs. Bud Vandermark, Gloria and Lisa of Warsaw; Mr. and Mrs. Keith Sipress of South Bend; Mrs. Marjorie Hepler and Dennis of Leesburg; Eileen K. Vandermark of Copenhagen, Denmark; and Mr. and Mrs. Everett Vandermark of Warsaw. Cake and ice cream were served at their home near Leesburg in the afternoon. Additional guests were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Zimmerman and Julia of Warsaw; Rev. J. C. White of Leesburg and Mr. and Mrs. Art Smith of North Webster. Evening guests were Rev. and Mrs. Lavern Skinner of Clay City. Forsters to be at Calvary Chuck and Lois Forster, missionaries to Niger, Central Africa, will speak at the Calvary United Methodist church at Syracuse Sunday, Sept. 9, at 9:45 a.m. Mrs. Forster is the former Lois Held, originally from Syracuse. At 10:30 a.m., the Cardinal Center Bell Ringers will present a program. BEVERLY KNEPPER WITH GOVERNMENT Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Knepper, Milford, have received word from their son Beverly that he has accepted a position as auditing agent with the governmental department of housing and urban development at Atlanta, Ga. Nashville, but will be traveling through eight southeastern states. Bev was retired from the US air force last December after serving 20 years. He now lives at Warner Robins, Ga., with his wife Sally and sons David and Donnie. LAKELAND LOCAL Mr. and Mrs. John L. Miller, Shari, Sheli and Shawna of Dewart Lake spent the Labor day week end with Mr. and Mrs. James Keller and family in Dowagiac, Mich.

Mrs. Mary Holloway of Milford and Percy Bartlett of South Shore of Lake Wawasee were united in marriage at 9:30 Wednesday morning by the Rev. Mr. Duker at his home in Goshen. The Hex Grange met Tuesday evening at the Grange hall with 37 members present. Master Samuel Bushong presided and 12 officers were present. Planning your work is good, but doing it is much better.
