LITTLE BOYS and girls in Milford have been having a great time playing in the mud puddles following the recent rain. Parents, however, should be on guard as many of the youngsters are playing in the streets and could be injured and even killed by a driver on the rain-slick streets. MODEST VICTOR Beer, while visiting his parents, the Henry Beers, last week, told friends he was in the grove caretaking business in Florida, and had some 3,200 acres of oranges under his care, much of it the property of the Gutwein family of Francesville, parents of Mrs. Beer. A NUMBER of Milford area people were spotted at the

livestock auction on Thursday night. The merchants are to be congratulated for the support they gave the Milford 4-H club members. While we didn’t get a chance to check on the steers all but three of the barrows sold by Milford 4H’ers were purchased by Milford businesses. THREE MILFORD fire trucks rushed to Chore-Time last Thursday during a thunderstorm in answer to an alarm from that company. There was no fire at the factory although the automatic alarm system sounded. It is thought lightning may have struck the system.
MR. AND MRS. Bruce Vanlaningham are in Milford visiting with relatives. They returned to their home town from Gusher, Utah, to attend the wedding of their son, Larry, last Friday night. On Sunday the Vanlaninghams and other members of the family along with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Whitfield and family of Camden were guests in the Phil Campbell home. Mrs. Vanlaningham and Mr. Campbell are brother and sister. WALLACE ANGLIN, much better known by his friends around the Clunette Elevator as "Monk,” has been attending 4-H livestock auctions at the Kosciusko county fair as long as he can remember. His ambition has always been to either purchase a grand champion steer or to be a participant in the purchase of the big one. Well, his chance came last Thursday night, when the elevator figured among the 10 business firms to purchase Mike Williamson’s beautiful black Angus. Wouldn’t you know it, when the photo of the Angus and the list of purchasers appeared in the paper, "Monk,” standing close to the end, was cropped out of the photo. Anyway, we’re trying to right this, and he appears in the photo in The M-J seen elsewhere in this issue. THOSE OF you who missed the ski show at Dewart Lake on Sunday really missed an entertaining morning. The three clubs who participated really put on a good show. IF YOU see Mrs. Phil (Clarann) Campbell, ask her about her husband’s remedy for a broken toe. Seems like she was the first victim of the family’s new swimming pool when she was “helped” into the pool by one of her relatives. MILFORD TOWN board members revealed at their Monday night meeting the fact the town of Milford is 172 d on the list for construction grants for the proposed $1,472,000 sewer lines. The town has a 9.5 rating. The list showed Crown Point at the top with 27 points. Syracuse is 51st with 18 points. Warsaw and Mentone are both with Milford at 9.5 and North Webster is 128th with 12.0. Leesburg youth hospitalized ► Jeffry Hunziker, 14, Leesburg, was hospitalized at the Parkview hospital in Fort Wayne following a collision early last week with an auto driven by Lyman Fry, 49, r 1 North Webster. The accident occurred at the intersection of CR 500 N and CR 850E. Jeffry, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hunziker, r 1 Leesburg, was riding a mini-bike when the brakes failed and he was unable to stop for the intersection. A rider on the mini-bike was Byron J. Berry, 14, r 1 Warsaw. Jeffry was treated for a fractured left arm and body abrasions. Byron Berry received abrasions to the left arm but did not require treatment. PORTABLE TV A Rockford, Maine, motorist has been fined $25 for watching TV while driving — police said he had the set mounted on the hood of his car. — CNS
