Treats will be served to all members from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. Please try to be on hand to pick up your cards and awards sometime during the afternoon of the 15th. If it is impossible to get to the library that afternoon, you may pick up your cards and awards another afternoon, but try and call for them as soon as possible. It has been a pleasure having all of you in the club this summer and we hope you will all join again next year. Meeting for prospective Jaycees set Young men (18-35) in the Lakeland area (Milford, North Webster and Syracuse) are invited to attend a meeting of the “Action Group of Today,” The Indiana Jaycees. Reading is a hobby that keeps youngsters busy in the summertime and is educational as well. Hundreds of youngsters flock to the Milford and Syracuse public libraries each summer to read f the thousands of books that are " offered by the two communities. Thorndike-Barnhart’s Comprehensive Desk Dictionary states that reading is, “act or process of getting the meaning of writing or printing. 2. a speaking
A play does not have to be good to be successful
By BILL SPURGEON That a play does not have to be recent to be good entertainment was demonstrated last week by the Thunder Bay Players at the Enchanted Hills Playhouse, as the local summer stock group staged a successful four-day run of “The Man Who Came To Dinner.” The play made famous on Broadway in the late 1930 s bv Monte Woolley — who also had the lead role in the movie a couple of years later — still is oood for a lot of laughs. And Enchanted Hills’ Mike McVey portrayed authorcolumnist - commentator Sheridan Whiteside in a totally satisfactory manner. Even Woolley would have enjoyed it. “The Man Who Came to Dinner” offers a unique commodity in the way of theater — it has an immense number of slightly-larger-than-bit parts, and when a group like Enchanted Hills puts on a show like this, it gives every one in the company a chance — or two — at a speaking role. Os the more than 20 persons who crossed the barn theater stage each performance last week, a few with major supporting roles (when a play is built around an insufferable egotist, even some good roles become supporting ones) deserving mention would be: Mary Bosk, in her second Enchanted Hills appearance, a delightfully daft sister for Mr. Whiteside’s host, playing a difficult role extremely well. Jeanne Krempp, completely in character — and control — as Whiteside’s secretarycompanion. Mark Carmichael, completely absorbed in the character —a real character — that he portrayed: as Banjo, you liked him, and it was obvious he liked being Banjo. Roxanne Hagemeyer, who laid it on thick as Lorraine Sheldon — a part which required that she be disliked. Dan Bonnell, as Bert Jefferson, who grew into his role as the evening moved along. And David Cline, as the doctor turned author who persistently wanted — and never obtained — Whiteside’s opinion of his epic work. There were others, and all did a creditable job. The staging was good (with a cast size four portals all received a good bit of use) and the set was authentic for the late 30s; so was the costuming, with the exception of the clumpy 1970 s shoes on some of the girls (but if you learned to act in 1970 shoes it’s doubtful you

Thus, while the youngsters are enjoying the contests and projects of the library they are continuing their education throughout the summer. She did a good job, and it is hoped she will return to Enchanted Hills. Next on the barn theater menu is another one-week stand, “Mary, Mary,” opening Wednesday and running through Saturday. Then comes the season finale, “Man of La Mane ha,” which opens August 16 for a twoweek end run. If you’re looking for something to do nights, you’ll not regret taking in both, if previous Enchanted Hills successes are any indication. wk' _ IB REV. JOSEPH W.
