MISS MILFORD — Representing Milford in this year’s fair queen contest is Andrea Newman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Newman of Milford. Andrea will be a senior at Wawasee high school. She is 17 years old. A pretty brown haired lass with brown eyes, she stands five feet, six inches tall and weighs 126 pounds. Iler hobbies include bike riding, reading, collecting things and drawing. At Wawasee she is active in choir and Y-Teens.

Cheerleading contest is on August 17 INDIANAPOLIS — There will be a lot of noise and enthusiasm emitting from the farmers building starting at 8 a m. Friday, Aug. 17, during the 1973 Indiana State Fair according to Paul G. Thurston, director of special events. The occasion will be the start of the Indiana State Fair cheerleading contest. Over 500 enthusiasts will compete on the 95 varsity teams, while 81 reserve learnt made up of more than 420 youths have entered the event. The reserve units take the stage first starting at 8 a.m, with the varsity teams competition due to begin at 11:30 a.m. The varsity teams have five minutes to prove their ability to whip-up enthusiasm, while the reserve units have four. The cheering teams are judged on originality, degree of difficulty, precision and unity, appearance, voice projection and clarity and enthusiasm. Last year’s winner, Highland of Anderson and runner-up North Central of Indianapolis are among the teams entered in the varsity division. Warren Central of Indianapolis and Speedway, first and second in the ’72 reserve contest are also slated to return. Besides the honor, the teams will be competing for trophies in both divisions (the top 10 in varsity and top five in reserve).

The varsity units will also be vieing for SI,OOO in cash prizes. The 1973 cheerleading contest is open to the public on the grounds free of charge.
